This version of Autodesk Mudbox 2014 is an upgrade for existing users of Mudbox 2013 that ships as a DVD and can be installed on Windows, OSX, or Linux computers. Mudbox is digital painting and sculpting software that allows you to create 3D artwork for use in video production, game development, product demonstrations, or just about any other 3D application. It provides specialized tools for building characters, detailed environments, props, designs, or pretty much any other type of miscellaneous object you could imagine.
New for Mudbox 2014
Mudbox adds support for multi-touch devices including Wacom tablets and touch screen computer monitors. Multi-touch gestures allow you to perform many of the same manipulations that previously required a keyboard
Remeshing within Mudbox
You can now extract uniform quad meshes from an existing highly detailed, intricately sculpted mesh from within the Mudbox workspace. A combination of manual processes allow you to select as much or as little control as you want
The new Mesh > Reduce Mesh menu item lets you decimate a high-resolution mesh to produce a low resolution copy that preserves the volume and shape of the original mesh. This gives you a reduced data size copy for use later on in the production pipe-line
New Curve Tools: Loop, Border, and Erase
Border Curve lets you drag to add curves along the exact edge of the mesh or around the edge of a hole within the mesh
Curve Loop allows you to create freeform angled curves parallel to your view vector or drop curves where the mesh intersects a vertical or horizontal plane
Erase Curve lets you work on single or multiple curves at once and can be used to make simple fixes or delete entire curve segments as you draw a network of curves on a mesh
Mesh Errors Detection and Repair
Highlights mesh issues in red when importing a file. Once detected, you can fix minor mesh issues in Mudbox with mesh cleanup tools Patch, Tighten Selection, and Fair Selection
Face Mesh Duplication
From Mesh > Duplicate Selected Faces in the menu you can now extract a face mesh from an existing face while leaving the original source face unaffected
Create 8k Texture Maps
In Windows and Linux versions only and provided sufficient resources, you can now paint with even greater detail using 8k texture maps
Improved Isolate Display Option
Isolate is now available from the Display menu, and allows you to temporarily focus on a selection of faces or a specific object to quickly limit what displays in the scene
Save Scenes Incrementally
Allows you to save each iteration of your project, letting you save as many versions as you want to keep so that you can quickly revert back if needed
Other Notable Features
Paint directly onto 3D models, across multiple channels, and in multiple formats
Retopology tools for cleaning and returning production-quality meshes from scanned, imported, or sculpted data
Create accurate normal, displacement, and ambient occlusion maps with texture backing
Workspace centered around 3D layers
Single-step interoperability with Adobe Photoshop and specific Entertainment Creation Suites 2014 applications
