A flexible zoom covering a popular focal length range, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO from Olympus is a wide-to-portrait-length 24-80mm equivalent lens for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. Its sophisticated optical design, which includes a variety of aspherical, low dispersion, and high refractive index elements, reduces both chromatic and spherical aberrations throughout the zoom range for notable clarity, sharpness, and color accuracy. A ZERO lens coating has also been applied to improve contrast when working in strong lighting conditions. Beyond the advanced lens design, this zoom is also characterized by its constant f/2.8 maximum aperture, as well as its durable weather-sealed construction for working in a variety of conditions. Additionally, a Movie & Still Compatible autofocus system achieves fast, smooth, and silent focusing performance, and a manual focus clutch affords instant switching between focusing methods.

Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO Reviews
New OM-1 and Needed to Upgrade the Glass
I recently upgraded from a Panasonic G85 to the OM-1. I like to shoot nature/wildlife and close up like plants, flowers and insects. Some features I really wanted like Focus Stacking were not possible with any of the lenses I had so I went on a quest to upgrade the glass in my lens line. This M.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 was perfect for the lower and mid range. It's fast, the clarity is superb and the aperture remains constant throughout the focal range and can focus down to inches when desired. There's a manual/af clutch that's easily used and works smoothly. I really like the L-Fn button on this 12-40 PRO and other PRO lenses. It's now my Focus Stacking function button and, since that setting is in the OM-1 body settings, that configuration carries across my other PRO lenses. This lens is great for portrait and normal work but is an acceptable as a moderate wide angle. I've really enjoyed it so far and I intent to get a get deal of use out of it.
The One Lens
If I could only have one lens for my Olympus, it would be this one. It's super sharp, solid, quick to autofocus. It is amazing. I have also tested the weather sealing in heavy downpours and still no issues. If this one ever breaks, I will immediately buy another.
Olympus Lens
I recently purchase an Olympus mirrorless camera and several lens. I am extremely pleased with pictures made with this system. It is much lighter than my Canon. This lens worked very well for my needs.
Best lense for any four third camera
I've only used it indoor but the results are astonishing.
Solid glass. Great lens
So far so good. I like it better that the Panasonic 12-35 2.8. Glass is better and seems to find focus better when in auto focal mode. I use it with GH5. This and the Olympus 7-14mm are my two main go to lenses.
Excelent!
I use Olympus and Canon since the time of the Canon EOS 1N, Olympus OM4T and OM3T, these last two true privileges of engineering, with more than 200,000 photos each and without knowing the technical service, with their corresponding sets of L lenses for Canon and the brightest for Olympus. In the digital age I had from the Eos 5D MKll and the Olympus EM1. I still have a Canon 5D MKlV rig with all L-series zooms and lenses and I have the Olympus rig. I would not know how to explain or it would be extensive to explain why the Canon equipment stays in my house day after day, trip after trip and I end up with the Olympus in my backpack. the Canon is an excellent piece of equipment, but the Olympus, in addition to being an excellent piece of equipment, integrates with my body, feels like an extension of oneself, you use it, you perceive it and it transmits something to you when you are in the middle of the scene photographing. I have used this zoom long enough to share my impressions. The construction is excellent, if you are in a day with a lot of rain or in a windy place with a lot of dust or sand, you can be calm with this lens and your Olympus, you only think about continuing to take photos making these elements play in your shots if you want, without worrying about anything other than taking photos, then you arrive at your hotel room, put it under the water jet of the bathroom faucet, dry it gently with a napkin and it is ready and impeccable, it is a real pleasure. The image quality and sharpness of this zoom is really very very very good, at all focal lengths. The autofocus is silent and very fast. Precise manual focus. Switching from automatic focus to exclusive manual focus is very comfortable. a really excellent crystal.
One of the best and most useful MFT lenses
Been on the Oly MFT system for 10 years now and this is the lens I have on my camera 95% of the time. It is solid well-built and simply provides glorious results! I have taken it in wet areas (rain and water falls), icy cold, and used it during fine sand storms and both body (OMD M1 mkiii) and lens have survived easily. PROS - F2.8, solid mostly metal construction, easy ring clutch for manual focusing, great close focusing, renders beautiful colors, very sharp images, most useful zoom range (at least for me). CONS - heavy (due to all that glass for F2.8), a bit pricey, but maybe only the single lens you need? It really is that sharp and clear.
Olympus 12-40mm for micro 4:3
I bought this for my Panasonic G9. What a lens. Full frame equivalent of 24-80, the holy grail for walk around all purpose lens. F/2 so great for low light. Weather sealed, no VR, but the camera will handle that. Tack sharp thru the range. excellent addition for my lens kit. Great price and free delivery from B&H. Very pleased with purchase.
