Olympus LH-66 Overview

  • 1Description

The LH-66 Lens Hood from Olympus is a replacement for the identical hood included with your 12-40mm f/2.8 Micro Four Thirds lens. It prevents unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending beyond and shading its front element. Additionally, it offers some extra protection against impact.

Olympus LH-66 Reviews

LH-66 Lens Hood for 12-40mm f/2.8 Micro Four Thirds Lens (Black) is rated 2.0 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Get the Vello instead. It's pretty and looks good on the lens. That's the only good thing you can say about these lens hoods. Otherwise they are fragile, insecure and way too expensive. I only bought this because I had two of these lenses and wanted to sell one. With the Oly hood I was able to sell the lens for $60 more than my best offer without hood. I hope they enjoy it. Olympus needs to rethink their lens hoods. They're all flash with no durability. I don't feel that my photo/video experience is enhanced by pretty lens hoods. It is with simple lens hoods that work well though. While better, the hood for the 40-150mm f2.8 probably isn't going to hold up for long either.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality I can't believe that the hood on a lens this expensive falls apart so easily. And the replacement cost is outrageous!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Falls apart! This hood came with the lens and only lasted six months before the glue failed and the collar separated from the body resulting in the locking mechanism bits falling out. I am going to attempt to re-glue it as I didn't loose any of the parts. Would not buy another because I can see from other comments this is happening to others.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did not hold up I echo the other comments here. Initial impression was superior design and quality, but the collar separated from the hood within a a few months of not particularly rough use. Olympus needs to redesign or at least improve the adhesive quality.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible. Fell apart. While this lens hood looks pretty slick, it's poorly constructed. The hood is metal glued to plastic - and the glue wears out quickly. Mine fell apart after about five months of purchase and is now unusable. Not recommended, not at all.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor construction Very crafty at first and felt like a superior product. Then started to fall appart. Ditto with the lens caps. I am now sending the pieces of my second lens cap back to Olympus. Bad quality control

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice protector The second day after my purchase of the lens i dropped the camera from about 130cm height onto a concrete floor. The hood was bent out of shape and unrepairable so i tossed it out. The lens has not a single mark on it. Now i am looking for another hood. Thats why i am writing this review. In terms of performance for pictures i didnt have a chance to evaluate. I would recommend this hood even if it was just for protection.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Expensive The lens cap is expensive and as I could not find a non Olympus lens cap, I had to buy it again. The first one lasted one year of very little us. It is manufactured in two parts that are glued to gather and the glue dried up and it broke. I tried to superglue it again, however it did not work and could not fix it.
