ikan iLED312-v2 overview

  • 1Description

This iLED312-v2 3-Point Light Kit 3-Point from ikan provides an all-in-one solution for small interview situations. The kit includes three iLED312-v2 light units, each with a diffuser an AC adapter two L-type batteries, heavy duty shoe mount and a compact light stand. Three dual chargers are included as is a soft-sided kit case to store and transport it all.

Each light's digital readout displays the 100-10% dimming level and color temperature range of 3200 to 5600K, which allows you to quickly adjust your lights to match the environment.

  • iLED312-v2 On-Camera Bi-Color LED Light with Digital Display

The ikan iLED312-v2 On-Camera Bi-Color LED Light with Digital Display is a compact battery powered daylight/tungsten balanced on camera light. It features a continuously variable color temperature between 3200 tungsten and 5600K daylight, and a built-in variable dimmer that can dim the lights output from 100 to 10%. Built into the light is an LCD display panel that shows a digital readout of the brightness level, color temperature of the light and features a battery gauge so you know how much power you have left.

The light produces a 60° beam angle, and includes both a removable four leaf barn door and diffusion gel. The light features slots for two Sony L-Series type batteries, and includes two batteries and a dual battery charger. A 1/4"-20 threaded hole allows you to mount the light to your camera's accessory shoe via the included ball adapter. You can also stack multiple iLED312 lights together using the interlocking rail system. An included soft carry case allows you to easily pack and carry your light unit, gel, barn doors and included accessories to and from shoots.

    Variable Color Temperature & Dimming
The iLED312-v2 features 312 LEDs, and a single knob that allows you to vary the color temperature of the unit from 3200 to 5600K. A separate knob controls the dimming of the unit, with brightness range of 100 to 10%.
    Digital Display Screen
The dimmer and color temperature settings are controlled by analog knobs, but the built-in digital readout on the built-in display screen allows you to match the output of other units or repeat setups, if you have to go back and get pick up shots. The display also incorporates a four-step battery gauge so you know how much battery power you have left.
    Barn Doors
The included four sided removable barn doors are constructed so the doors can interlock together, limiting light leak from the edges, controlling light spill, and providing directionality to your light. The side doors feature articulating leafs that provide you a fairly wide range of adjustment while still controlling light leaks from the edges of the doors.
    Diffusion
Although you can attach diffusion gel to the barn doors, the iLED312-v2 features a slot for the included precut diffusion sheet, that can be used with or without the barn doors in place. The diffusion is notched, and a safety tab engages the notch to prevent it from accidentally falling out.
    Power
The light unit features slots for two Sony L-Series type batteries of any capacity, and includes two NP550-type batteries. The light can run on one or two batteries, you can use the AC adapter that powers the included dual battery charger to power the light instead, via the small power connector on the back of the unit.
    Mounting
The light incorporates a 1/4"-20 threaded mounting hole in the bottom of the unit, and an interlocking rail system that allows you to stack up to three units vertically or horizontally, with a maximum of six lights.

ikan iLED312-v2 reviews

iLED312-v2 3-Point Light Kit is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light 'em Up When our company switched to using the ikan iLED 312 light kit, our ability to shoot photography and video went to an entirely new level. We are always needing to light up a person or project and these lights are great for several reasons . . . extremely portable, easy to set up and take down, do not produce heat, lights can be adjusted to warmer or cooler lighting, battery powered, light output level is adjustable, can mount to tripods or directly to your camera and give you just the lighting that you are looking for.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Light Kit, But Picture Misleading These are great lights, very portable and brighter than you would think. Great versatility and being battery or AC powered, you can make them do whatever you need. Variable color temps make them a dream for moving fast. The only negative I have is that the picture individual soft cases for the lights, that are pictured, do not come with them. Reaching out to Ikan about that they were included in the pictures as an error. So if you purchase, do not expect to receive those.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic lights! Dreadful Case!! These are very well built lights which provide even light. The battery life is remarkable. They will last over an hour at full power and considerably longer at 50%. The controls are simple and effective. The physical build of the units is smart and strong. They will join together if desired to increase area and output, an operation I have only needed to do once, but the process was easy and I did not worry about the units at all. The supplied barn doors and diffusion panels are well made and not overly fiddly (some light kit barn doors from other manufacturers are just toys--these are useful and well made). The included stands are light and sturdy. They are far superior to many similar kit stands and while they may weigh a bit more than the average flimsy kit stand these will be reliable under much more use and abuse. Now for the bad parts. Other reviewers have remarked that the case is a weak point for this kit and I purchased the kit thinking, Yeah, but how bad can it be? Well, it's dreadful. Not the size or the lay-out, they're both pretty spot on. The dividers that protect the lights from the accessories have the standard hook-and-loop tabs to attach them to the sides of the case, but the material on the sides of the case (and the long center divider) barely grabs the tabs on the dividers. It isn't fuzzy enough to grip the tabs, so you'll have a collapsed duffle bag jumble of parts in a very short time. Also worth noting is that the micro ball heads provided for mounting the lights work well, but the knobs that tighten them down will work themselves loose if you don't snug them down and the heads will disassemble themselves over a long car ride. I love the lights and recommend the kit, if you are ok with the shortcomings of the case and remember to snug the ball heads before you put them in the case. I have some plans to reinforce the case, and perhaps sew in the dividers, which should solve that problem for my purposes. My main uses are 2 person interviews and small lecture events, for which this kit is ideal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ikan's iLED312-v2 Portable LED Lights: Powerful and Versatil When I first saw Ikan's iLED312-v2 lights on display at a trade show, I knew right away I wanted them. So when Ikan offered to provide me demo lights, I leapt at the opportunity. As a producer of eight-to-10 minute tape reports and mini-documentaries, I've been seeking lights that are small enough to carry around by myself, yet powerful enough to nicely light up an interview. Often I produce and shoot my stories as a one-man band, and sometimes wear a suit to interviews and thus my gear -- camera, tripods, lights and sound equipment -- must be compact. There is a lot to love about Ikan's iLED312-v2 light kit. You can dial in the temperature of light you want, from 3,200k for tungsten-halogen to 5,600k for the look of sunlight. So if you are shooting an interview and a lot of natural light is shining into the room, you can adjust these lights to match the existing sunlight. Or if you want a warmer look, you can dial in a lower temperature. The lights have a Variable Color Temperature knob. When you turn it, an LCD display on the back digitally shows the temperature of the light being emitted. Another great feature is that the LCD display also shows how bright the light is when you turn the dimmer knob. You can set it to 100 percent maximum, or whatever output you want. These two features -- the ability to dial in very precisely the desired light temperature and control how bright the light shines -- are incredibly powerful. Typically, it's a real challenge to consistently light interviewees in different settings, when shooting multiple interviews for a single story. But with Ikan's iLED312-v2 lights, assuming you can control the existing ambient light, one can use the same settings on the lights for each successive interview. I don't know of any other lights on the market that can do this. Another outstanding feature of Ikan's LED312-v2 lights is that they can run on rechargeable batteries, so you don't have to bring extension cords and worry about anybody tripping over them. The LED display on the back of the lights indicates how much juice is left in the batteries. The lights are very solidly built and well constructed. The light stands that come with the iLED312-v2 kit are sturdy: heavy enough so they won't tip over, but light enough to carry around. If desired, you can also mount the iLED312-v2 onto the hot shoe of a camera, which is also a wonderful feature. The one recommendation I have for Ikan is that they redesign the barn doors. They are too narrow to channel or control where the light falls. And because they have bent edges, they're also a little awkward to pack. I'm hoping when Ikan debuts its Version 3, these barn doors will get an upgrade. For now, I've been attaching cardboard to the barn doors to help direct the light. The bottom line is this: Ikan's iLED312-v2 lights are fantastic. They are outstanding for producers and videographers who seek powerful and bright, high-quality lights that provide the flexibility to dial in color temperature and the portability that the battery power provides. They are as suited for a one-man-band as they are for larger crews.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Burned one up I loved these lights for the 5 interviews I needed them for since I purchased them late last fall. The kit is great for travel and comes with everything I needed. Turned one of the lights on for an interview this week and it started smoking and would have caught fire had I not unplugged it. Glad I was in the room at the time or that could have ended another way entirely. I will be looking to return/replace this set due to this severe malfunction.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to set up and use! The light were so easy to set up and use. I had all three lights set up in a manner of minutes. Its exactly what I needed for my video audition studio.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Awesome Use on run and gun shoots. Great because they are battery powered and small and light weight but powerful enough to supply ample light.
