Tenba DNA 15 Overview

The graphite DNA 15 from Tenba is a versatile messenger bag that can hold a professional DSLR with 2-3 lenses, with up to a 70-200 f/2.8 attached to the camera. The camera and lenses fit inside a removable padded insert in the main compartment, and a tablet and laptop up to 15" store inside padded pockets on the bag's interior.

The tapered flap covers the main compartment, providing protection from the elements, and closes via hook-and-loop closures as well as magnetic clips. A removable padded insert provides dividers for organizing your camera gear, and two pockets for smaller accessories. When the insert is removed, the bag is quickly converted from a camera bag to a general-purpose bag that can be used for carrying books, clothes, business documents, and more.

The DNA 15 is made from 600-denier helix with a water-repellent exterior coating. The interior is made from ripstop nylon and brushed tricot. The bag can be worn as a messenger bag with the shoulder strap, or can be carried like a briefcase by the top handle.

Two elastic micro-mesh pockets on the side of the bag, four slip-in pockets on the front of the bag, and two zippered pockets on the flap ensure you'll have plenty of storage.
An adjustable security strap that connects to D-rings anchors the bag in place on your back to keep it from sliding while riding a bicycle.
For extra weather protection, a removable and reversible WeatherWrap cover is included.
A quick-access zipper allows access to your gear without opening the front flap and exposing your equipment to would-be thieves.
A non-slip shoulder pad grips onto your shoulder, while the strap's webbing freely flows through the pad for smooth movement of the bag from front to back.

This backpack carries way more than I thought it would, have a couple days on you, put gear, change of clothes and run out the door. Looking forward to using it on quick client trips.

I am a camera bag junky. I needed a bag for vacations, with space for my camera, a couple of lenses, and ample flexible storage space for short excursions. I have a couple of Tenba bags already and as with the rest, this bag meets my expectations of excellent quality and thoughtful design.

I haven't had it for a long time yet. I love the top zipper. You don't have to open anything up to quickly get into the bag. I also love the idea that it has a pass through so it can be used as a personal item. And I can keep my passport and air tickets in the zippers in the front of the bag. I can see this bag as a very good personal item to accompany my carry on bag.

Could have been better

The size of this bag is good. For those of us that travel with serious gear, this is the only bag this size I've found. The thing is, that it could have been so much better. The pockets in front don't have zippers, so anything you put in them falls out. I carry lots of little items, SD cards, Arca plates, wrenches, etc. I also like a small amount of everyday items. But I don't want them to fall out. A single snap, button or zipper would make that far more secure for the photographer on the go. The pockets on the outer flap sort of make sense in terms of having two, but the smaller one is too narrow and deep and it's difficult to get items out of it. It would have been better to have had one longer pocket or two of equal size. The inner box they give you would have been better to have been two of equal size or just configurable panels. It's too big as one unit. All or nothing on that isn't helpful. I used a couple panels and added some from another bag to put in a smaller padded box for my A7RIV and lens. But scavenging for parts feels...like something I'd be doing with a cheaper bag. It does have nice side pockets for bottle of water or these days, hand sanitizer. Another miss is the ubiquitous flap to keep the laptop/tablet compartments closed. I put a laptop in here maybe one out of four trips so that space is annoying to access with that flap. Everyone does this and many people cut it out. I don't see why it couldn't have velcro at both ends so it could be removable. Overall, I couldn't find a better bag, and it wasn't cheap. I haven't had it that long, but it is my general travel bag. It's replacing an REI branded bag that I have (no longer made) that is the perfect travel bag. It was just a smidge smaller than this one, but the pockets/compartments were perfect for a variety of items. This one is close, but it feels like something that wasn't tested well by people on the go. All it takes is a flight attendant to put your bag in the overhead upside down once to find a bunch of your items have fallen out. I bought one of those slim tech pouches to carry some of that stuff, but again, now I'm buying bag to secure items in the bag. Still, I haven't seen anything better. But I can hope.

The newest addition to my gear, I love my new Tenba backpack. I’ve already used it for travel/hiking to Wyoming and to carry my gear to multiple events. It’s light-weight, spacious and simply ideal. Highly recommend! Ps. I’m a 5’2”, small framed female and I could adjust it to work perfectly with my body type.

Anyone know if this bag fits a MacBook pro 16" in the laptop sleeve?
Asked by: Nick
Yes, the MacBook 16 will fit. It sits a little high in the rear sleeve, but it fits perfectly width wise, and the flap closes over it without issue.

I’m trying to decide between the DNA 15 and DNA ...

I’m trying to decide between the DNA 15 and DNA 15 Slim. My widest lens is a Fujifilm XF 100-400. Other lenses I would pack in this bag are a 16-55 2.8 and 50-140 2.8, plus a 15” laptop and iPad Pro 11”. Would the Slim be too slim?
Asked by: Douglas
You really need to get the DNA 15 DSLR (original size). The slim is great when your mirrorless kit is more of the "historically mirrorless" size, but since everything keeps getting bigger and not smaller, a professional Fuji kit requires a bit more space.

question

I am unsure which tenba bag to buy, the DNA11 or DNA15. I do not what something which is too big yet I would like it to be light enough to carry a Nikon D800 with a 28-300 lens and one additional lens 14-28. Which one is the smallest I can go to include these items. Thanks
Asked by: Anonymous
The DNA 15 has a larger capacity but is designed to carry a 15 laptop and tablet along with your camera and lenses. I do use this bag when traveling however, it's not very practical for hiking trips or street shooting . The DNA 11 is smaller but would easily accommodate the equipment you mention it would be lighter and less cumbersome in the field.
