  • 1Description

The D54250WYK Mini PC NUC Kit from Intel is a compact system that fits in the palm of your hand and packs the performance of a dual-core Intel Core i5-4250U processor with integrated Intel HD Graphics 5000. It features two SODIMM slots that can accept up to 16GB of DDR3L 1333/1600 MHz of RAM. For long-term storage, it has room to hold an mSATA drive connected to the full PCIe mini card slot for providing quick access to your data. It also features a mini-HDMI and a mini DisplayPort to deliver high-definition content to your monitor or TV. In addition to outputting video, the system features an infrared sensor that you can use an optional remote to control it right from your couch.

This NUC connects to the Internet for downloading online videos using the Gigabit Ethernet jack. For connecting with your peripherals, it offers four USB 3.0 ports. To save desk space, the system may be mounted to a wall or the back of your VESA-compatible monitor using the included VESA mount bracket. Moreover, you may personalize this system with different styles and features by replacing the lid. When fully equipped, the Intel NUC mini PC is designed for everyday use and gives you the power to play, create, and entertain.

Processing and Graphics
This NUC is equipped with a 4th generation 1.3 GHz Intel Core i5-4250U processor featuring visibly smart graphics using Intel HD Graphics 5000 to provide enhanced performance and improved graphics for casual and online gaming, video playback, and web browsing. With Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0, the maximum clock rate this processor can achieve is 2.6 GHz. Having two cores also allows the system to run multiple programs at the same time without slowing down the computer.
Infrared Capability
As the NUC was designed especially for home theaters, this system features a front panel infrared sensor, which allows wireless communication with infrared-compatible devices, such as remote controls, keyboards, and other devices.
Intel Visual BIOS
The BIOS with a configuration-friendly, easy-to-use interface lets you customize settings while reducing the risk of damaging your system. Whether you want to prioritize boot order, change the BIOS password, enable overclocking, or set fan speed, Intel Visual BIOS gives you total control.
Compatible with Linux
Linux can be installed, either as the primary OS or as a separate partition alongside Windows. Certain versions of Linux are specifically adapted to be used as a Home Theater PC (HTPC).
Audio Out and Microphone-In Port
The single 1/8" (3.5mm) headphone/microphone jack on the rear of the device lets you connect headphones, speakers, or headsets to the Intel NUC.
Quiet Cooling
The system features active cooling with minimal noise through the use of one fan.
Kensington Lock Support
Features a slot for a Kensington lock to be used in order to deter theft.

    Intel D54250WYK reviews

D54250WYK Mini PC NUC Kit is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, tiny, but not Ma ini quality HTPC (and more) Great size Powerful plenty. Not as easy to setup as Intel would like you to think (and I am a tech). Read the specs online or the little brochure that comes with it and make sure you stick to the specs (memory, 1.35 only, don't try 1.5; video hookup, got the mini DisplayPort working, the HDMI, tried several cables and adapters without much success, I know others did better). Stick with mainstream vendors for Memory, mSATA (Intel, Crucial, etc.) and Wifi/BT (intel). On a Cons side, while made out of metal, parts feel wobbly inside and don't always align (i.e., my power cable would not fit all the way in, had to play with the case and screws, maybe it was just mine). In the end it is worth the money, once you have it all working.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Built 50 computers with these! As said above, I've built close to 50 computers with this kit and the i3 kit, and out of all of those I have only had to return one that had issues with the power cable connecting. I absolutely love these kits and couldn't recommend them more. Even the i3's are more than fast enough for anything you'll need, short of video games or photo/ video editing. Most of the kits that I built were used to replace an entire office's computers. People often asked where the computers are, and then are amazed when I crouch down and point at the tiny box mounted to the underside of their desk. Building these computers is really easy too. Sometimes it's a pain to build a full computer, especially when you have to use thermal paste to put on heat sinks or when trying to neatly organize the masses of cables, which never seems to quite work out. With this kit, you undo four screws on the case, two small screws in the case, put in a tiny wifi card (if wanted), a mini SSd, and a stick of ram (I mostly used a single 8 gb stick), then put the six screws back in place, and you're done! Installing Windows is a pain, but I made a bootable USB 3.0 flash drive for that. The four USB ports in the kit are all USB 3.0, so file transfers are really quick. I really can't recommend these kits enough. With Windows 7, I clocked the boot time to the logon screen at 9 seconds. The only two downsides that I've come across, are the power cable with an elbow connector (I think this would be better straight) and the black glossy top gets dusty really quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The future is Now! Intel's NUC next unit of computing delivers on specs and driver support. Purchased this unit to use as an OpenELEC/ Kodi box and I had no headaches trying to find supported Linux drivers. My goal was to be able to play 10-bit h264 .MKV's and does so flawlessly.
