This black Vertical Battery Grip from Sony allows for long-term, comfortable shooting in the vertical orientation with your Alpha a7/a7R/a7S digital camera. It accepts 1-2 NP-FW50 batteries, which are available separately, to extend and possibly even double your shooting time. The grip uses a battery with lower power first, then automatically switches to the one with greater power when the first runs out. Remaining battery power is displayed as a percentage on your camera's LCD monitor.

The grip offers an extra shutter button, located at the low position, as well as front/back control dials and Auto Exposure Lock. All controls are placed appropriately for easy, comfortable access. A strap hole allows you to attach the optional STP-GB1AM Grip Belt. The buttons, dials, battery cover and connecting terminal on the grip are securely sealed for dust and moisture protection.

Vertical Battery Grip for Alpha a7/a7R/a7S Digital Camera (Black) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 36.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good grip but a bit too large For my rather big hands, this allows for a good grip of the camera. Works as advertised but is not of the same quality as the camera. Things to be aware of: 1) it takes two batteries (none included), but you can't charge them in the grip. You need to remove them from the grip and charge them in-camera ... stupid design. 2) the wheel to screw the grip on the camera is very thin and tightening it hurts the fingers and can't be done with gloves on. Silly design 3) Camera + grip gets huge. I don't understand why it has to be soo big. 4) Flimsy design of battery cover. It will break at some point. Except for that, it works.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Over time connection will separate/ camera reboots We own 4 of these for each of our a7s. They have all done the same thing. Over time the connection becomes unstable and when you bump the camera or hold it the wrong way the camera reboots and the file that is being recorded become corrupt. Going to try to get my money back. Wish me luck

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect match for my Sony a7! This is my 3rd DLSR camera and my 3rd battery grip. I don't use camera neck straps so when it comes down to holding my camera in my hand I want the feeling that it will not slip out. Using this grip accomplishes exactly that. It gives me a secure hold on my Sony a7 and lets me shoot with confidence. Of course having a second battery on board is great also. The only downside to this grip is that the batteries can't be charged while in the grip.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Fit This battery grip is great for my A7. it has a really nice feel and really balances the camera for me since I switched from a Canon 5D MK II. the A7 felt a little too small and light at first without the grip and as soon as I put it on the A7 felt just right. also, having double batteries for lengthening the power useage is a great option. one awesome feature with this grip is it has a place to put your camera battery flap on the grip so you will never misplace it. the camera battery door/flap is alway with the grip so you can change it back and forth and not worry where the flap is. only reason I gave it 4 stars is I wish it could except AA rechargeable for emergency power. even with 2 Sony batteries you only have about 700 shots. I love the grip.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One Major Flaw Sony's vertical grip works great, long life for my night sky and star trail shots. The one thing, and only thing, wrong is to charge the dual batteries the grip must be removed and a single battery must be installed into the camera body to charge. The camera uses the dual batteries one at a time so it should be able to charge them the same way. There must be an external charger Sony is selling - I will have to check.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Get a grip The A7's can be tough to hold steady in some instances. This grip helps keep it steady on long shoots. People are used to full sized or gripped DSLR on shoots but not many non-photographers are familiar with mirrorless cameras used professionally. Their small size can be a benefit to photographers but the addition of the battery grip gives the A7r a more substantial and familiar look to clients. The grip's quality is top notch and even includes a handy stow away place for the battery door on the bottom of the camera. It has a solid metal feel with a rubbery coating that works very nicely. Some after market grips can flex and don't fit flush with the bottom of the camera. That is not an issue with this Sony grip. There is no perceptible gap between the body and grip and the connection is solid and confident. A minor gripe is that the vertical shutter button can get under the outer edge of your palm if you have fairly large hands and activate the auto focus or fire a shot. It's only happened to me a couple of times and I've adjusted my grip to keep some clearance. The only other con I can come up with is the high price, but you do get what you pay for.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for Me This grip was a big disappointment. Yes, it works but it does not feel good in my hands. While other manufacturers seem to make a real effort to create grips that somehow accommodate the human hand Sony seems to have forgotten this all important step. If you need a second battery I suggest you put one in your pocket. The A7 series cameras could use a good grip...but this isn't it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect companion for the A7r I purchased this after renting an A7r for a few days and was astonished at the poor battery life and knew I would need the ability to have two on board. Although I purchased it for battery life, I really like the way it enhances the camera ergonomics. It provides excellent balance and grip and I like the way it handles. The small switch for on-off is a bit difficult to turn as is the battery compartment open/close switch and might be difficult for guys with larger hands/fingers. Overall, it is on my camera 100% of the time.
