Sony LAEA4 Overview

The black A-Mount to E-Mount Lens Adapter from Sony enables you to attach virtually any A-mount lens to an Alpha E-mount full-frame digital camera body. Teleconverters and Minolta XI lenses are not compatible. The adapter features a built-in AF motor, aperture-drive mechanism and Translucent Mirror Technology to enable full-time, continuous, TTL phase-detection autofocus. AF is supported with all A-mount lenses except STF models, and auto exposure will be enabled with all compatible lenses.

Translucent Mirror Technology effectively directs light to both the imaging and focus sensors simultaneously, enabling AF to work seamlessly even during video recording and continuous shooting. For video, aperture is fixed at the maximum f/stop of the lens or at f/3.5, whichever is lower.

The adapter is configured with a tripod mount for supporting large, heavy lenses. An ALC-B55 camera body cap, ALC-R1EM rear lens cap and carrying pouch are supplied.

Sony LAEA4 Reviews

Good but issues with Iris not working in AF mode

Very glad for this adapter. I have two expensive A mount lenses and use the Sony FS5. Most of the features of my uses i can use except that when my camera or lens is in AF, I cannot shift the iris. I do not understand why this is happening. So i have to go in MF mode, adjust my iris then turn my camera or lens back in AF mode.

All good with Sony lenses.

Finally moved from an A900 to an a7Riv. Bought both LA-EA3 and LA-EA4, as I had both screw and electronic lenses. Both worked ok with Sony lenses. LA-EA3 even gives you eye-focus. LA-EA4 does not, but works similarly to the native alpha camera focus. The exception was a Tamron Di SP AF 70-200mm F/2.8 (IF) Macro. A total disaster. Can only use with the old alpha cameras. No idea who is at fault , Sony or Tamron. But, checked on the internet and it is a known issue, but no fix.

Internal motor works with Minolta lenses

I bought the LA-EA4 so I could use my old Minolta and Sony lenses with my a7iii. One lens is from my old Minolta Maxxum 7000i film camera, so it's a full frame, and the others were for my Minolta a7D, which are APS-C. All the lenses are about 15 to 30 years old. Sadly, I had several other lenses, along with my old Maxxum film camera, that didn't survive a typhoon in the Philippines a few years ago. The old lenses are fun to use with my a7iii, even if they don't utilize all of the camera's functionality. The Minolta lenses all focus quickly and precisely, even in low light. I do have a Sony 75-300mm lens that has to search for focus at mid to low light, or when there is little contrast in the subject. It's not as good of a lens as the others, so I wonder if that's why it struggles? The LA-EA4 is fun to have, but I'm not going to get rid of any of my FE lenses in favor of their A mount counterparts. Also, the adapter and my old lenses will probably spend most of their time in the closet rather than in my camera bag. That said, I'm not averse to buying additional A mount lenses should I have the opportunity.

Allows you to add several lenses at a fraction of the cost

My father in law gave me his old Minolta Camera and lenses, which all looked really cool, but I am way too lazy to go through getting film developed. Well after a little research I found this and decided to give it a try. While it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a current native lens it has auto focus and allows you to control all the setting through the camera. I do find it lags sometimes so for important shots I switch to manual focus. Really stoked to be shooting my children on the same lenses that took pictures of my wife when she was a child. It's also a great way to add more lenses while not breaking the bank.

I have had my eye on a mirrorless for a LONG time. My system was the first Konica Minolta digital, then Minolta, then Sony A mount when they bought out Minolta and so on. You can see that the lenses followed me through mu progression. I wasn't going to let that be a deal breaker for me, but it would help if I could keep my glass. I shot professionally and had thousands of dollars in high-end glass. Dove into the A7rIV and was able to take off with my existing lenses seamlessly. I was a bit concerned, but that went away the first day. You don't notice the thing is on the camera. New lenses, yes, buying Sony E-mount, but still have the others and they work flawlessly with this adapter. I am only covering a range I did not have before. For $300, I can make use of about $12K in glass. Very Happy about that!!

I stupidly purchased the wrong lens, so this Mount was my solution. Since purchasing this, I realize my lens options have increased. Great purchase and a quality product!

This has been a money saver for me. I was given a lot of Sony lenses that were A-mount. The adapter works great and it’s nice to have the flexibility to have different lenses to choose from. You will not be disappointed!

This adapter gave me full autofocus with my A-mount lenses

I recently bought an a7RIII and the LAEA3 adapter. That adapter did not provide autofocus support for my A-mount lenses. Manual focus only. To get back autofocus capability, I bought an LAEA4. It provides the autofocus function that the LAEA3 does not, and I can now use my 400 mm Sigma and 20 mm, 30 mm, 50 mm, and 90 mm macro lenses with my mirrorless system.

question

While shooting video with a compatible 1.8 or 2.8 lens using auto focus, would the aperture be fixed at 3.5 or can be stopped down to 1.8/2.8 ?
Asked by: Anonymous
The adapter has full electronic transfer of Amount lenses. If your camera model has the ability to change f/stop while shooting video it will still retain that feature.

question

Hello everybody. Just wanted a definite answer about this using A-mount lenses from a third party makers. i want to throw a sigma 35mm 1.4 Art series on the adapter for autofocus on my Sony A7 , will it work properly like autofocus and using as well as changing the Aperture . Just want a final word on the subject since there is alot of contradicting information on that Interweb. Thanks Alex
Asked by: Anonymous
You will be able to use third party A-mount lenses, such as a Sigma lens, on the Sony A-Mount to E-Mount lens adapter with Translucent Mirror Technology, so long as the lens in question is for Sony A-Mount. This adapter will allow TTL phase detection autofocus, as well as auto exposure and aperture drive.

question

The same question as with la-ea3:can you use focus magnifier (enlarging the image in manual focus mode) with this adapter ? With la-ea1 it is possible but with la-ea2 enlarging the image in MF mode is not possible ?!Should be the same with full frame adapters, at least I think so:la-ea3 possible, la-ea4 not possible.
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, just like the LA-EA3 adapter, the LE-EA4 will also permit the use of focus magnifier/peek focusing when shooting in MF mode.

question

HiIm looking at buying the QX-1 from sony (yet to be released) but currently have an Sony a77 with Sigma lens (forgot the exact one). Will I be able to mount my future A lenses with the QX1 using this adapter? I do not want to buy 2 different styles of lenses.Would I be better of buying e-mount lenses and converting to a mount or the other way around. I thought form A-> e is the better option (plus I have existing A lenses already).
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, the Sony A Mount to E Mount adapter (LAEA4) will allow you to mount Sony A mount lenses on the QX-1. If you already have existing A mount lenses, there isn't really any need to start buying E mount lenses if your plan is to use those A mount lenses with this adapter.

Will this work with Sony DT 16–80 on A7III?
Asked by: Weihong
My sony A5000 is an e-mount. This lens adapter allows me to use sony A-mount lenses (more of them - has been around longer) on my sony e-mount camera. If your camera is an E-mount, this will work if you desire to use any of the A-mount lenses.
