Sans Digital EN208L+BXE overview

  • 1Description

The EliteNAS EN208L+BXE 2U 8-Bay 64-Bit NAS Hybrid Storage Rackmount from Sans Digital is a NAS + iSCSI + Fibre Channel (via optional add-on) unified / hybrid storage rackmount with an Intel dual-core processor and 2GB DDR2 ECC memory with expansion options. Designed with hardware RAID protection and dual Gigabit Ethernet, this rackmount is capable of unlimited clients with network share and support in IP SAN storage. Built-in SATA RAID 6 supports up to 24TB total storage and an optional SAS expander feature allows expansion of up to 7 more additional SAS Expander JBOD storage units, up to a maximum of 120 drives, making a total of 360TB total storage in a network sharing or iSCSI / FC SAN environment. Optional expansion modules also support SAS hard drives, allowing you to choose between high capacity SATA drives and high performance SAS drives. With 24TB in a single rackmount, the NAS is capable of fulfilling the most demanding storage needs.

The rackmount supports IPv6 for more flexibility in allocating IP addresses and efficiency for routing web traffic
Multiple NAS aggregation (single name space NAS expansion) allows the integration of multiple or additional NAS units under a common root folder
OS mirroring along with the management GUI interface
Highly efficient OS based on 64-bit operating system
An intriguing web-based GUI can configure, access, and monitor the NAS/iSCSI
High file transfer rate for all types of protocols (NFS, AFP, CIFS, FTP, and iSCSI)
Supports robust journaling file systems - XFS / EXT4
Supports file-sharing for clients in heterogeneous or mixed OS platforms
Supports teaming over two or more Gigabit NICs
Supports seven modes of network port bonding, teaming for load-balancing, and fail-over and 802.3ad
Supports multiple volume snapshots, schedulable and on-demand
NAS-to-NAS folder replications support scheduled differential and scheduled full copy with compression
Includes iSCSI target and initiator functions for IP-SAN infrastructure
Supports remote system monitoring for fan status, temperatures, RAID status, hard disk drive status, and network connectivity status
Supports remote monitoring and remote email notifications
Supports auto email notification for pre-defined events
Supports storage quota assignment to group or to individual users, as well as warns when approaching the quota limit
Supports local folder creation under each root network share
Supports multi-level sub-folders
Network share can be created based on volume or on sub-folder

Supports Protocols and Services

Supports Client File System - SMB, CIFS, NFS, AFP 3.1, FTP, and SFTP
Supports Network Transport Protocols - TCP/IP, SNMP MIBII, AppleTalk, NTP, DHCP, and HTTP/HTTPS
Supports Network Services - DHCP, ADS/ADDS, NIS, LDAP, and NTP Server
Supports Volume Snapshots
Supports multiple snapshots for point-in-time user data image against accidental user file deletion and data corruption or virus attack. Snapshot can be scheduled and/or on-demand
Build-In iSCSI Initiator
The NAS acts as an iSCSI target; connect it to the existing NAS as part of the local storage
Dual Gigabit and RAID Hard Drive Protection
The rackmount is built with simple setup and maintenance features in mind. Installation wizard for easy implementation, convenient web-based management for local or remote configuration, dual 10/100/1000 network support for teaming or redundant networking, and hardware RAID support for your data storage make the EliteNAS a simple, trouble-free unit. Dedicated 1200 MHz processor RAID engines support online migration and expansion while offloading complex RAID calculations to improve overall performance
Hardware RAID Support up to 6
EliteNAS supports RAID levels, including RAID 0, 1, 3, 5, and 6 for advanced data protection in large numbers of hard drive deployments. An optional expansion kit will add support for 10, 30, 50, and 60

Supports Network Information Services (NIS) for Unix/Linux
Supports LDAP
Supports HTTPS/SSL service
Host (IP) filtering

NAS Administration

A NAS discovery tool, NAS Finder, will automatically discover any and all NAS units in the local network and allow administrators to manually add an entry for remote NAS unit over the Internet/VPN/WAN
Monitors NAS resource utilization status via the web-based GUI
Monitors online users and folders being accessed via the web-based GUI
System log can be downloaded and emailed to technical support personnel for further troubleshooting
Support system configuration for backup and restore functions

iSCSI Feature

iSCSI target function allows a certain portion of the storage to be partitioned as iSCSI volumes and assigned to a specific host computer, appearing as a local disk to that host computer
Provides block-level services (iSCSI) and file services (NAS) in a unified storage system
Built-in iSCSI initiator function allows the NAS to mount remote iSCSI target volume as its local physical storage and expand the storage capacity
A combination of iSCSI target and initiator support between multiple NAS units can be used to perform multi-NAS aggregation for storage expansions
Built-in snapshot support iSCSI volumes
iSCSI Support for VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V
To take advantage of centralized storage for all virtual machines in VMware ESX or Vsphere, the NAS can be used as a focal storage point for the VMWare ESX or ESXi server hosting multiple virtual machines. You can utilize the NAS as an iSCSI target storage system for the VMware ESX/ESXi server, making it ready for your VMware storage virtualization needs

EliteNAS also supports Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization environment. With the support of SPC-3, iSCSI can be used in Microsoft Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 clustering environment for high-availability applications
Fibre Channel Target Upgrade Options for Hybrid Storage
Fibre Channel Target allows upgrade of the NAS to support Fibre Channel SAN. With the upgrade to either 2-port 8 Gb/s Fibre Channel option (Part#: KT-EN2PFC) or 4-port 8 Gb/s Fibre Channel option (Part#: KT-EN4PFC), the EliteNAS can instantly connect to the most common interface in IT environments. NAS (CIFS/NFS/AFP), iSCSI, and Fibre Channel can simultaneously be supported in a single device, consolidating IT management and providing flexibility
