Leica Colorline overview

  • 1Description

The Cherry Pink edition 8x20 Ultravid Colorline Binocular from Leica combines the fully multicoated optical path and weather-sealed aluminum housing common to all Ultravid compacts, and wraps this premium optic in vivid pink leather. Included with this special edition Ultravid model is a leather carrying case with styling and vividness matching the binocular. A dual-hinge bridge allows you to further reduce the footprint of these handsome glasses by folding the barrels under the bridge.

Leica equips the Colorline series with multicoated aspherical lenses and roof prisms finished with Leica's proprietary P40 phase-correction and HighLux System coatings. The images transmitted by these Ultavid optics are bright and color faithful, as well as sharp and contrast-rich from center to edge. A weather sealed aluminum housing delivers fogproof performance and are guaranteed not to fog in rainy or humid conditions. The twist-up rubber eyecups and 15mm eye relief allow a comfortable viewing distance for almost any viewer. A 52° apparent viewing angle and 6 ft close focus distance make this configuration of the Ultravid a full-featured binocular for a wide range of observations.

    Leica Colorline reviews

8x20 Ultravid Colorline Binocular (Cherry Pink) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blue Ultravid Colorline PROS - The View: I use this binocular for general sky-viewing (airplanes, birds, far-off vistas, moon, and even scanning for UFOs). Well I can tell you, the clarity is magnificent. The viewscape in this binocular is bright, crisp and BOTH the contrast AND color are outstanding. Weight & Color: Another love affair I am having with this binocular is with its weight and look. This thing weighs next to nothing, weighing in at just a speck over 8 ounces. Further, it's just plain pretty. The Capri Blue Colorline Ultravid has a lustrous, deeply saturated blue that's elegantly presented through a rich, fine textured leather. I've never seen a prettier shade of blue! This binocular is by far the lightest weight and best looking one I've ever owned.Glasses Compatability: This binocular has exceptionally long eye relief at 15mm which is quite a bit more than most other binoculars I've seen and or considered. For me, this is exceptionally important since I wear glasses and need to be able to hold the binocular a bit away from my face and still be able to see a full circle of clear view. The Ultravids accomplish this perfectly.Case & Accessories: The Ultravid comes with a leather, matched case with strap (the same blue as is on the binocular), a separate strap* for attachment to the binoculars, and a set of lens caps for the eye-pieces. (The rear lenses do not include caps but this is because of the lens-coating used which can be adversely affected by the gas emissions of aging cap plastics.)Heirloom Quality: The lenses on Leica's (as most already know are hand ground. Each one, made by hand for the world's highest quality (and in this person's personal opinion), best lenses on the planet. Yeah--this is a hand-down heirloom sure as heck. (Although, this binocular being one of my most treasured items at this point, will likely need to be machine removed from my postmortem personage!)Regarding the Waterproofing: I have not taken these glasses out in the rain but from all I've read, these lenses have a coating that will simply sheet water off so efficiently the user would be unable to even detect the presence of water drops despite a soaked lens. I doubt I would subject my leather wrapped binocular to this kind of abuse, but should it happen, I'm confident the Ultravid will handle it since everything else about it is literally top-notch.CONS - *The only con I can come up with for the Ultravids is that I don't care for the binocular strap. The thread 'n' tighten' strap is definitely comfortable but it isn't sturdy. I highly recommend you sew the strap ends to the neck ribbon after sizing it to fit in order to ensure the strap doesn't pull out and you end up with damaged or broken lenses!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by a new Leica fan for life
