Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 RAID Solution is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from The QX2 by OWC is a complete and total piece of garbage The QX2 failed on numerous occasions in JBOD mode, resulting in corrupted hard drives, lost data, and at least 20 hours of rework. When it failed, the PCs (several of them) appeared to lose communications with the QX2. This was followed by the HDDs in the QX2 spinning at 100% duty, which was followed by PC freeze. The only way to regain control of the PC was to turn off the QX2 (hard turn off), which more often than not resulted in partial or full corruption of HDDs that were being copied, and the HDDs being copied to. That resulted in at least 20 hours of rework. OWC has not offered a refund to date. Three out of three of last OWC items that I have ordered have not worked. I will not be buying any more OWC products.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as advertised I use this as a 4-separate drive (no RAID) implementation with four 4TB drives for video file project storage. Installing the drives was straightforward/easy, connectivity options meet my requirements, case matches the Macs I use, setting the box to JBOD was easy and the instructions were simple. Integrating with existing desktops was easy, too. The fan's hum is a little noisier than I'd like, but it is tolerable and if I place it under the desk (it is currently on my desktop - I like watching the lights), the audible level of the fan is much less.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failed My unit completely failed after 1 year and 2 months of light use. 3 TB of Data completely lost; while RAID give a level of protection for your data, if the unit itself fails then you loose everything. Before it failed, I found the unit noisy and slow to write to. Configured in Raid 5 using server class HD and connected using esata, never got speed above 40Mbps, which is about USB 2 speed for a regular drive.Support is non-existent.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failed before 2 years I bought 2 of these enclosures directly from Other World Computing a little less than 2 years ago and one just failed. The enclosure was stuck in rebuild mode, and I spent close to a month with OWC tech support (trying different solutions to recover the data). I had to let it try to rebuild for more than 7 days (it spent more than 10 days trying to rebuild). OWC tech support explained the problem as a logical failure ... this means the RAID controller in the box got confused and there is no explanation for the failure. Originally, I was told that they could send me a new enclosure to try, but it would be USB 3.0, so it would automatically rebuild the RAID and I would lose all of my data. (I should have taken the offer, because they now refuse to replace the enclosure.) After finally accepting that the data was lost, I finally sent it in for an RMA (along with the ESATA card it was connected to in my Mac Pro). After testing, OWC said that one of the drives was bad, news to me as the bad drive was never indicated (as it's supposed to) by the LED drive status lights. The customer service rep also seemed surprised (but still wouldn't replace the enclosure). Since only one drive was bad, I asked if they tried to recover the data on the 3 remaining drives ... I don't think they tried to do any recovery. One drive failure and I lost everything (not the way Raid 5 is supposed to work). I have no faith that the enclosure will work correctly. I don't know that I'll ever trust Raid 5 again, either. OWC said to keep using it and if it fails again, they'll push to get it replaced ... it just has to fail within the remaining warranty period (two months after it originally failed, and less than a year remaining on the warranty). In the end, they replaced the drives (which would still under warranty from Toshiba). OWC wasn't willing to acknowledge that the enclosure didn't function the way it was supposed to. There are a lot of people who seem to have had this enclosure fail. OWC had the opportunity to stand behind their product, but did not. I now have an enclosure that I'm sure will fail again ... though it will probably be after the warranty expires. I've been a longtime OWC customer, but it's obvious that they don't care about their customers, so I'm through with OWC and their products.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quickly failed. The first of these I purchased, I regrettably waited till five months later to use it; it failed within a matter of days. It became finicky and then ultimately refused to mount. Because this is a hardware RAID, my drives were unreadable by any other device. I ordered an identical enclosure overnight to retrieve my data that was rendered inaccessible by the first one. Straight out of the box, the second enclosure self-ejected from my system perhaps a dozen times during the course of transferring 1.5TB of data. Despite OWC walking me through trouble shooting and acknowledging the enclosures were bad, they will not replace them with a different model, and must assess it at their facility to make a decision whether to replace or repair it, which other users have said takes weeks. Additionally, shipping is on the consumer for warranty claims. I suppose at this point I would have to warn against OWC in general and not just this enclosure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent over 5 years of use! A must if raid is your thing. I currently just bought my tenth unit. No issues, no problems, easy setup. These are hands down perfect. Love the design. What more can I say. I have some raid 10 and they are perfect! I have some raid 5 and they are perfect! Never an issue. reviews suck but I think when a product has not let you down for such a long time in such an important sector that it is important to give praise. If looking for fast storage here you go. Also remember that 4 7200rpm drives in raid 10 will smoke an SSD everyday of the week. I think people tend to forget that at times. Anyways if your in the market for an enclosure, get this one. I'm a photographer in Brooklyn and store all of my work on these puppies.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice box, but a bit loud I purchased this to host the content for my iTunes Library. It's well-built and very flexible in terms of selecting the disk array that best suits one's needs. Unfortunately, it's a bit loud for my taste when fully populated with hard drives. And, since it's local storage, one is limited as to where to place the device. In my case, I found the noise level from the fan to be unacceptable...your mileage may vary.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Problems 2 months in. 2 of 3 ports don't work and the unit only mounts 50% of the time. My enclosure is only 2 months old.
