FUJIFILM Mini 90 Neo Classic Reviews

Delightful surprise

I have been in a rut lately so I purchased a Polaroid Now+ when I was in Stockholm to dig my way out. Sometimes a change of pace helps. I have had some fun with it - but the image quality is awful. Not sure if it is the film, the camera, or the combo. I decided I'd try a couple of Fujis (since I have been shooting GFX for a few years and formerly shot X cams) including an Instax Square and this Mini 90. WOW. This is a great little camera. There is enough here to keep things entertaining including the ability to change flash modes as well as tweak some camera settings. There is a useful self-timer and a macro mode that actually works. You can also do double exposure, some custom exposure with a pseudo compensation, and even some flash adjustment. It even has a bulb mode if you have a tripod. Dual shutter buttons are a nice touch if you want to shoot horizontal. The film is also very inexpensive which is good because I'm blowing through it. Most importantly - the image quality is great. Clear focus, great colors + good contrast and tones on the black and white film. The pics develop FAST and the WYSIWYG viewfinder is actually WYSIWYG. There are a couple of minor nits and things I'd like to have (it is after all NOT a cheap camera). Nothing to knock it below 5 stars though. - Give me an app that gives me some manual control like the Polaroid Now+ (which is a great app) so I am not working on a tiny LCD and hoping for the best - Strap is very good - but also needed. This is not a very grippable camera if you have bigger hands. I'd buy another with a little more purposeful ergonomics. The plastic is textured which means it isn't slippery - there just isn't enough surface to get a good grip. That is it. Love this thing. It kickstarted my creative juices. I can see this eventually getting set aside and not touched for awhile and then getting dusted off and used for fun like all of my old film cams. Definitely a keeper.

Hey you- it's sooo worth it!

I had previously bought the Instax Wide 300 and loved the picture size, but it is way too clunky to carry around, so I rarely used it. I was about to go on vacation and longed for the old style pictures - simple tangible pictures instead of having thousands on a phone. So after much research, comparing film cameras vs instant film cameras, I found that the instant film method was cheaper, so I went with it! I bought this particular camera because it was small and the best quality for an instant camera. I wanted a camera I could bring anywhere - to the park, out with friends, to a party, on a vacation, on a hike. Anywhere! I like that, unlike with my wide camera, I don't have to bring a magnifying attachment when shooting close up. It has the most options, like: you can turn off flash, bulb exposure mode which enables you to shoot pictures at night or in the dark, macro mode, kid mode (because kids don't stay still), and landscape mode for subjects far away (like mountains). Using bulb exposure mode saved my picture when the indoor location where I was shooting was too dark. I used bulb mode on my second attempt at a photo and it came out pretty good (very important tip: make sure you keep the camera really still - like use a tripod or a ledge or something)! I would so recommend this camera! The joy of taking one picture and it coming out immediately and you keeping it forever is supreme! So for whoever reading this - if you want to go old school and bring back some of that instant, simpler-time magic, do it! This camera is amazing, and it's something I look forward to using for many years to come! *Also a note: I love B&H! I bought both camera purchases here and film. Amazing prices, amazing service, quick shipping (I paid extra and they delivered on their promise), and a company you can trust to provide you with quality, authentic merchandise. Thanks B&H! I really appreciate you!

Good fit for a particular niche

If you're a pro/hobbyist photographer looking to pick up an instant camera for your own use, this seems like one of the better options out there. Being able to control the flash is a significant plus over the cheaper Instax Mini options, and I've found that the exposure adjustments make a big difference as well. Just be prepared to burn through your first couple packs of film taking test shots to figure out how to get the best results out of the camera. If you're just looking for something to pass around at a wedding or party, this thing's probably overkill. Your average friend/relative won't need the extra settings and modes. One of the cheaper models with extra film would be a better bet.

It's easy to use. I plan to take it to Africa and photograph school children and then give them the pictures. Love the extra features on this camera.

A fun camera

This camera is just what I expected it to be. Fun! Yes it's basic, there are just a handful of shooting options, but that's its charm. As someone who spent their teen years in the 80's this camera is reminiscent of that great era. I'm still learning it's limits, and it will never replace my Canon 80D, but it's a fun addition to the creative toolbox. If you're looking for a fun and quirky camera that can take your creativity in a new direction, this is the one to get. And that brown body, it has the "look" of the hard leather camera cases we used to use back in day. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Defective product twice

Bought this to gift it to a friend but it was nothing but an inconvenience. It did not start correctly when started for the first time (Blank screen) even after battery was fully charged. The lens opened and it ejected the film cover and then refused to work after that. Wasted my instax mini film pack without even clicking one photo. Had to go to the store to replace it. They return department staff was nice but they could not do anything about the wasted film. Then the replaced camera had the same issue and another film pack was wasted. Felt bad about gifting defective camera to someone twice. May be there was some problem with that batch of cameras. Bought it from some other store and it worked.

So far I really like this camera. It takes some time to figure out the settings but it offers a lot of great options. Retro look, would definitely recommend this model if you want an instax for a older teen or adult.

Can you change film packs mid-way through a pack, ...

Can you change film packs mid-way through a pack, e.g., from b/w to color and vice versa, and then replace the partial pack at some point, without sacrificing unused film?
Asked by: Steven
Not unless you find a way of changing the film pack out AND storing it in complete and utter darkness when not in use. Otherwise, you risk exposing the rest of the pack to light and render the remaining sheets blown out (just a white photo).

question

How does the bulb feature work? Do you have to physically hold down or can you use the timer or a cable release?
Asked by: Sharon H.
Unfortunately, there is no cable release designed for use with the Fujifilm INSTAX Mini 90 Neo Camera. To use the BULB mode, you would have to physically hold the shutter button down. When using the BULB mode, the maximum shutter time the camera will be open is ten (10) seconds.
