The 7200 RPM 1TB G-DRIVE mobile USB Portable Hard Drive by G-Technology is a slim, light (under 6 ounces) portable hard drive for your Mac computer. It features USB 3.0 connectivity with USB 2.0 backward compatibility, a 1TB capacity, transfer rates up to 136MB/sec, and an all aluminum chassis for efficient heat distribution.

The drive is factory formatted with HFS+ with Journaling and is Time Machine ready right out of the box. It's plug-and-play compatible with Mac OS X Leopard 10.6 or later, but it can be reformatted for use with Windows 8, 7, and Vista.

You won't have to worry about cable clutter either, because the unit is self-contained, running on bus power directly from your computer's USB port. It can fit easily in a briefcase or laptop bag, and even has the aluminum look of a MacBook Pro.

1TB G-DRIVE mobile USB Portable Hard Drive (7200 RPM) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 90.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great backup and mobile edit drive Great Drive. I use it for backing up and editing on my Macbook Pro. I own an iMac as well and I just dump the contents of this drive onto the Pegasus Raid connected to my iMac.But its fast enough to edit on its own. Its the fasted single-drive, non SSD bus powered drive out there probably. I edit on Premiere Pro CC but I don;t work in 4k. I edit C-100 footage in 1080p and this drive has always done good by me.I have mine formatted in Ex FAT because I do work on a Macbook, iMac, and a Thinkpad. It works well with both Mac and PC formatted like this. I own this as well as the Thunderbolt 1TB G-Drive. This one is $ cheaper and just as fast when I tested the speed on the Blackmagic Disk Speed test app. All you lose by buying this and not the thunderbolt version is the Thunderbolt interface. So I would recommend buying 2 of these to have an edit drive and a backup instead of buying the Thunderbolt version. This is also half as thin as the Thunderbolt version.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for a fair price I purchased the 1TB G-Drive portable 7200 RPM hard drive to create more space on my laptop's hard disk. I moved iTunes there and eventually will move my Photos application there too. It's so easy to set up, all I had to do was connect it. No need to configure it or install software on my laptop. It's small, lightweight, and attractive. Hardly makes any noise and is easy to store out of the way when not in use. Also, my cat likes to sleep on it for some reason, even when it's not plugged in and warm. Mystery.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replacement for WD 2 TB 5400 RPM Well I'm a Music Composer and I bought a WD 2 TB 5400 RPM and had to waita long time for my sample librarys to load into my tracks, also when I played a sample it would cut off. I didn't realize when I bought the Ext HD it was only 5400 rpm. When I researched my problem on a music website it suggested I use at least a 7200 rpm HD .So I searched and found this 1 TB G-Drive and it solved my loading problem and I was always getting the Color wheel as on Mac's tells you a slow processing problem. That is now almost non exsitatant.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Safe For Work This thing head crashed in less than a year. I'm only going to buy SSDs for on the go from now on. it was simply in my padded briefcase. Loved it till this happened. Don't worry, I still love G technology as a brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best choice for Mac 1TB portable IMHO I've bought 5 of these so far for small media management across multiple Mac computers, before transferring to RAID system. They are faster than 5400 rpm drives, and other than daisy-chaining there is no advantage to Thunderbolt 2 for single drives like these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! I use this with my laptop for time machine backup. What's great about it is that it runs on USB power (no brick) and it is so small and quiet. No negatives. Totally recommend purchasing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast! Using this as a backup to my MacBook Pro Retina 13 (late 2013 model) with 1 TB SSD. Read and write times using AJA System Test are over 100 MB/s. Very impressive. No problem with powering up on the UDB 3 Mac ports. Some of my older G-Tech FW800 portable drives will not even boot using the Thunderbolt to FW adapters so this is a necessary replacement and much less than the Thunderbolt drives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great, attractive and portable. Other portable drives offer USB3 but at 5400 RPM, so the theoretical transfer rate of the USB interface exceeds the drive's ability to read that data. This 7200 RPM drive is a better fit in terms of improving performance, which has proven useful for high res image scanning.
