The ikan Hoverfly Lightweight Shoulder Rig is designed for HDSLRs and small to medium sized camcorders. The Hoverfly includes a camera mounting plate with multiple threaded mounting holes, 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 D-Ring type camera tie-down screws, and a removable camcorder locating pin with a 1/4"-20 thread that screws into the plate. The textured rubber handgrip attaches to the support arm via a proprietary rosette that also attaches to the camera mounting plate providing you with two points of adjustment.

The locking levers for the rosettes are kipping (spring loaded), which allows you to lock the position of your handgrip and support arm, even when you can't fully rotate the levers. You attach the shoulder support to the support arm and adjust the position for the most comfort and support. You can mount the shoulder support so that it acts as a chest brace, or if you prefer you can turn the shoulder support around and have it hang over your shoulder onto your back.

Removable Locating Pin
The locating pin features a 1/4"-20 threaded stud. It screws into the camera plate and prevents camcorders from twisting on the camera plate. The locating pin is removable so you can mount a DSLR, which does not have a locating pin socket.
Shoulder Pad
Ballistic Nylon protects the foam shoulder pad from wear and tear. You can slide the shoulder pad along the support bar to adjust the rig for comfort. The pad can be oriented so that it sits on your shoulder and braces against your chest giving you stability and support for handheld shooting. If you prefer that the shoulder pad drape over your shoulder and provide support that way. It is a simple matter to loosen the locking lever, slide the pad off the bar, turn the pad around, and mount it back on the bar.

Hoverfly Lightweight Shoulder Rig is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from One Fatal Flaw Overall, the materials are solid. It's well put together with a nice cushion that sits comfortably on your shoulder. It handles my 4.5 lb Sony NX100 with ease. But, if you are planning on controlling the camera with your right hand, you need to look elsewhere. The piece of metal that connects the handle is sharp and rigid and painfully digs into the palm of your control hand. Hoverfly claims this is reversible but i have purchased 2 separate sets of Torx Star Drivers all the way down to size T4-T7 and have been unable to move it. This rig would also work much better with a counter weight in the back.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Adjustable handle a plus I bought several rigs to compare and ended up returning this one, albeit somewhat reluctantly. What I really like about it is the adjustable handle that allows you to find (and modify, as necessary) a comfortable position. The reason I returned it, however, is that it is not quite stable enough for the package I was asking it to support (Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, Zacuto EVF, Beachtek mixer, wireless receiver). With all that stuff it felt a little top heavy, but I do think it's elegant, comfortable and a great unit for a camera package with fewer elements.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Back for a refund I tried using this with a Panasonic AG- AC130. The good part of this rig is that it is made of heavy aluminum parts. It will not break! That is the only good thing I have to say. Reversible from left to right handednot in the field by any means and not at home, unless you purchase a #7 star driver. The hinge points for the handle are cam action and require a large allen wrench to adjust. When it arrived one of the hinges was so far out of adjustment, it would not tighten into place. After taking care of that, on the first shoot, vibration loosened it out of place and I could not lock it down and use it. The camera mount plate is straight which makes it only usable with a view finder. You cannot see into the eye piece because the camera sits too high above your eye.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Design - cumbersome! Too many screws. The yellow handle on the picture is cumbersome to put in place + it can only be adjusted using a wrench. Furthermore, the shoulder pad padding slips from my shoulder because it does not have a surface that grips (like a rubber surface). There are less expensive and better products on the market.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from returned, not able to use viewfinder The quality was acceptable. Well boxed. After using the unit with a small Sony camcorder (AX-100), I concluded it wasn't for me. This is a straight line rig, meaning it's only usable to shoot video by watching the flip out LCD. it is NOT lined up to use the viewfinder with out modification. Plus, I wanted to add a zoom controller and there's no place to mount it. All in all the unit is viable considering the low price. Not sure how well the rosettes and other hardware would hold up over time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not for DSLR without flipping LCD This rig is sleek, well built, simple and very good looking with a very comfortable shoulder pad. HOWEVER, if you are planning to use it with your professional DSLR like the Canon 5D Mark III or 6D, forget about it. The rig is designed for cameras with a flipping LCD so it will be in your line of sight when it is opened otherwise you'll have a pain in the neck trying to view the image in a camera with a fixed LCD

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice light weight item This shoulder rig is nice because it is easy to break down and adjust, but since it is so light weight it makes it very difficult to be comfortable. I am using a Sony HXR-Nx100 HD NX cam the bad to it is with it moved all the way back it is still to front heavy needs counter weight on the back of the shoulder rest. overall for the money it is a good buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Buy Very comfortable ( better with weight in the back side) and good stability. Very safety if you use your camera strap = hands free when you want to rest your arms if you don't use your camera.
