1TB G-Drive Mobile Hard Drive with Thunderbolt is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 75.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from 1TB G-Drive Mobile Hard Drive with Thund it does what it says although it gets really hot. also only one thunderbolt port so its a dead end if you daisy chain (my fault, I should have read the description but I never would have guessed it only had one.... I mean come on you could run 25 of these and still not saturate the Thunderbolt connection so it seems kinda silly not to have your port back for more drives or external screens) its fast enough... as fast as any other single 7200 rpm drive can be (mine clocks 129 MB/s write and 126.8 read)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it! I love this little gadget! So much so, I ordered a second! With the Thunderbolt connection, it's SUPER FAST! I transferred nearly a thousand photos in about 60 seconds with no problem; and because I use a Mac, for which the device is already formatted, it was extremely easy to use. I literally just plugged it in and it was ready to go. My only complaint, and the reason I gave it four stars instead of five, is that both devices came with minor cosmetic damage. I assume that this damage originated at the manufacturer during the assembly process, as it was obvious that neither device had been opened. Other than that, no other complaints thus far!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 1-TB 7200-rpm drive w/Thunderbolt I have two (2) G-Technology 1-TB G-DRIVE mobile drive with Thunderbolt and USB 3.0. Using Thunderbolt on my MacBook Pro, I typically see a transfer rate of 123-MB/s, and not the 136-MB/s that is in the spec. I find that the drives do get a bit hot if you run them for a while. However, there is no setup and you can use them immediately. They are very small and mobile, and since they are powered off Thunderbolt or USB, there is no power adapter to carry around. I take one (or both) of these drives with me when I travel. I store photos on them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply the best I use 5 of these for my Lightroom catalogs and image storage while on location. They have never failed me. Fast, reliable and resilient (yes, I did manage to drop one from 5 feet, and yes - it continues to serve me without a hiccup to this day).Pro advice: your images are your livelihood. Saving $ for a slower and certainly less reliable storage media is what an amateur would do. Divide the price difference you could be saving by the number of images you'll end up storing on this HDD, and it won't make sense to you either.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well for motion graphics/video I really like this little drive. I do motion gfx and video editing. I use it to carry work back and forth from the office to my house. It goes in my purse. I wish it were a bit lighter, but then again, for 1TB it's not bad.At home it's connected to my macbook pro and all project files are on this drive. I haven't put it through major tests (like 3D rendering) yet but for basic editing/AE work it's been all good and fast so far. It gets a bit warm with use and it makes some low noise, but it's pretty minor. What drive doesn't? It doesn't bother me.The design is sleek, looks good with my laptop. The thunderbolt cord is pretty short (guessing 16) which is great, less stuff to carry around.Compact, capacity and fast. For the price this is a winner!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Drive - Needs some voodoo to make it work on Win 7 ONCE you get it working on Windows 7 it flies (150 MB/sec)! I had to spend a bit of time messing with drivers until I finally got it working on my HP ZBook 15. If your Thunderbolt drive won't mount on Windows 7 here is the fix: Thunderbolt drives not mounting here is the FIX: This worked for G-Drive Thunderbolt hard drives (may work with other brands) for Windows 7, all versions: 1. Thunderbolt needs to use the Asmedia 106x SATA Controller with Win 7. Download the Asmedia drivers from the Lacie website: https://www.lacie.com/US/support/drivers/driver.htm?id=10278. 2. Reboot and enjoy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thunderbolt adds zip to the zap I suppose it works or it doesn't - mine works like a five. The package opened easily, I plugged it in to my mid 2011 Mac via Thunderbolt and BAM it all worked without issue. Nilson at B&H recommended this unit, partially because of the rpm speed. I installed OS Sierra over a cloned copy of Lion to test it out with this unit...then did the same for the internal HD on the Mac. It might be an illusion, but I think this external drive is faster than what's on the Mac. I may run the computer full time with this external drive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The BOMB I'm in the video production bussiness and use this drive on location to back up and transfer our clients 4K video files to their hard drives, We record 4K files to 240GB SSD's with an off camera recorder. These 240GB SSD's only holds 40mins of Pro Res HQ video, this means theres a lot of files to transfer and back up and not a lot of time to do it. The 1TB G-Drive Mobile Hard Drive with Thunderbolt is really up to the job and makes it very easy to quickly move files from one drive to another via USB 3 or Thunderbolt 2.
