The B+W 67mm Close-Up +3 SC NL 3 Lens offers the ability to achieve macro-like results with camera lenses that have 67mm front filter threads. A close-up lens is a magnifier that optically decreases the focal length of a camera lens placed behind it. This effect lessens the minimum focus distance between the camera lens and a subject. Magnification can then be obtained by decreasing the distance between the subject and the combined camera lens and close-up lens.

The magnifying power of a close-up lens is indicated by its diopter strength. A close-up lens with a higher diopter number provides more relative magnification and can be combined with other close-up lenses to increase, or fine-tune the macro effect. This close-up lens has a diopter strength of +3. Diopter strengths of +1, +2, +4, or +5 are also available where this close-up lens type's effect becomes progressively stronger with each diopter strength number increase.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface of this lens includes one layer of anti-reflection coating. B+W close-up lenses are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity. This close-up lens features an F-Pro brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

    67mm Close-Up +3 SC NL 3 Lens is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought for use with Canon Powershot SX40 I bought the B&W 67mm Close-Up +3 SC NL 3 Lens to use on my Canon Powershot SX40. Although the SX40 has macro capability, the macro focusing is limited primarily to the wide angle end of the zoom and working distance limited lighting options when shooting macro. The 67mm Close-Up +3 Lens allows a greater working distance for lighting and for shooting live subjects. After researching, I selected the +3 diopter as providing a reasonable magnification without needing to purchase and carry a 3 or 4 lens kit. I selected the B&W as it was offered as a single lens and was coated. It seems to work well with the SX40 and I have not noticed any appreciable degradation in IQ. I bought an extra Canon 67mm adapter just for the Close-Up lens and leave it attached so I can quickly install or remove the lens with just a quarter turn of the Canon adapter.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Product!! I've used the product to help do a close up while I was in macro mode with my Canon Powershot sx20 and it worked really good. When you look into the close-up filter it can almost be used has a magnifying glass. But dont use the zoom with this product because it won't work. When you zoom on an object with the close up filter it will become all blury because it's not made to help you do close ups while zooming on an object.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than you think I bought this with the idea that I could try my 70-200mm for some macro shots without having to invest in a full macro lens. While this doesn't give you a true 1:1 macro it does get fairly close. Image quality is better than expected. Keep in mind that at this magnifying power 200mm doesn't really work well. I've had the best results around 135mm. Build quality is excellent, just like other B+W filters I've tried.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than a macro lens Use like a threaded filter. Got really close to a subject. Closer than I thought I could get. Focusing was easy. I also bought the +2 lens and can use them together to get a greater mag. The two filters added up to $100, cheaper than a macro lens.
