Combining a redesigned true condenser capsule, ultralow-noise transformerless circuitry, and an extremely durable housing, the Rode NT1-KIT large-diaphragm cardioid microphone is well suited for high-resolution digital recording of vocal and instrument sources at home, in the studio, or even on stage. Plus, its bundle of accessories—shockmount, pop filter, XLR cable, and dust cover—help the NT1-KIT serve singers, rappers, and podcasters especially well.

While the body of the NT1 still resembles the NT1-A, the mic has been completely revamped except for the mesh grille. It features Rode's updated HF6 capsule, which is designed to provide a detailed midrange response with smooth highs and warm bass. The HF6 capsule is suspended inside the microphone using Rycote's industry-leading Lyre system to help reduce vibration and handling noises. Also, with self-noise measured at only 4.5 dBA, the NT1 is an exceedingly quiet microphone. Since it can run on 24 or 48 VDC phantom power, the NT1 can be used with a variety of professional and entry-level XLR mic preamps

NT1 vs NT1-A
Although the body of the NT1 closely resembles the NT1-A, the microphone has been completely redesigned from the ground up, with the only shared component being the mesh grille. Rode's design engineers approached the NT1 as a marriage of innovation and tradition, starting with the capsule, which is a completely new design. Codenamed the HF6, it is the perfect example of Rode's fusion of artistic design approaches and cutting-edge manufacturing techniques, and features a sound signature reminiscent of the famous microphones of old while at the same time exhibiting extremely low noise.
Tone Signature
It has been developed with a focus on detailed midrange response, coupled with silky smooth high frequencies, and warm, round bass reproduction to make the NT1 an absolute standout in its class.
Internally Shock-Mounted Capsule
The transducer itself is suspended inside the microphone using Rycote's industry-leading Lyre system, minimizing external vibrations at the capsule level. The capsule is then married to high-grade electronics that have been designed to provide an extremely low noise level. The NT1 is an incredibly quiet microphone, measuring only 4.5 dBA of self-noise.
Durable Housing
The NT1's body is machined from 6061 aluminum and then nickel plated for resistance against corrosion. Finally it is coated in a durable, military-grade ceramic layer, using advanced electrostatic application techniques developed by Rode to ensure an extremely hard wearing finish that is resistant to scratches or marks.
Bundled Accessories
The NT1 is supplied with the SM6, a high-quality suspension shockmount that provides isolation from external physical factors that may cause unwanted rumble and vibrations in the microphone. It includes a removable pop shield with two axes of adjustment and a telescopic arm for ultimate application versatility. The mic also comes with a balanced XLR microphone cable.

Amazing - Get This Mic

This is the most realistic mic you can get, and close to the Neumann U87 in many ways!

Best choice - Good price

Considering the price, it is the best choice in the market. However, the pop filter in the Candian market is made of metal. All in all, I am happy with the device.

Sounds great, nice and rich

This mic has a nice flat response curve, as I learned while researching studio mics. I love the sound coming from this for the VO work I do. Almost everything about this is solid: the mic holder with elastic bands is solid metal, the attachments for the pop screen and mic stand are metal... the handles for the pop screen are plastic, though, but these don't need heavy tightening, so they're fine.

Perfect for PodCast & Studio

Excellent sound characteristics. Natural and flat, not colored, particularly for female voice types. Perfect for PodCast and Studio work. Requires a good deal of gain to drive a satisfactory low noise floor. Very satisfied-decided to purchase a second one.

Versatile Microphone

I purchased this primarily to record cello since it seemed to have a good response across the cello's wide frequency range. It's worked well for that -- which also means it's been good for voice as well. It's been a great mic to have in my arsenal at a reasonable price.

The NT1 is a GREAT microphone!

Everything that goes through the mic comes out crystal clear, warm, and vibrant. I picks up literally everything in front of it, and seriously blocks out the extraneous sounds behind it.

Switched from NT1-A

(Mount in the picture does NOT come with the mic as sold here. More info below) I was a long-time user of the NT1-A, and when it went on the fritz I thought it would be a great opportunity to move to this mic. It sounds great, realistic, and where my NT1-A left out my bass and bumped my high ends, this one sounds rich, round, and present. I only give it four stars because this microphone used to come with the Rode SMR mount at this same price point, but now it comes with the SM6, and you have to pay $60-80 for the SMR mount which is a little obscene. All the people who bought it before the pandemic and received it with the SMR at that same price confirm that the other mount works excellently and completes a wildly better aesthetic than the SM6 mount does (pictured with the mic). Hopefully, they'll recombine them soon, but definitely grab this mic when you can.

XLR Cable Included? I've seen unboxing videos where an XLR Cable and Mic Sock (not wind filter) are included, but they're not listed here hence my question.
Asked by: Out d'Box
Thank you all for the responses, I know you are trying to assist me in this forum but I am shopping for a new Rode Microphone for studio work and this caught my attention when I saw the complete kit unboxed with the SM6 shock mount. I wish I could've included hyperlinks to the unboxing videos that unmistakenly shows the NT1 kits. I think Rode does/did kit the NT1 with the SM6 and a 25' XLRM-XLRF Cable. Thanks, everyone.

I tried to connect to a Pioneer DJM 900 NXS2, but the the microphone doesn't work at all. I tested via Focusrite on my computer, and it does work there well. How can I set up the mic with DJM 900 NXS2 to get sound?
Asked by: Janos
The Microphone is a condenser and requires 48v of Phantom Power, which the Pioneer mixer does not supply. You can use an external phantom power supply, like the Rolls PB23. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/155422-REG/Rolls_PB23_PB23_Single_Channel.html However, if you intend to do live performances, this may not be the right mic. As it is a condenser, it is very sensitive and will pick up crowd and room noise, and possibly cause feedback in a live setting. You may want to consider switching to a dynamic mic for your live shows.

Are there any benefits to using 48V phantom power? It says it can operate on both, but are there reasons I would choose one over the other?
Asked by: Henry
The 24V powering option for the Rode NT1-KIT Large-Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone would really only be useful if you for some reason had a 24V supply, or a supply that did not offer 48V. There should not be a difference or benefit in microphone performance using one or the other.
