Key Features
  • Creates Macro Effect
  • Decreases Minimum Focus Distance
  • +3 Diopter Strength
  • Single Coated
The B+W 77mm Close-Up +3 SC NL 3 Lens offers the ability to achieve macro-like results with camera lenses that have 77mm front filter threads. A close-up lens is a magnifier that optically decreases the focal length of a camera lens placed behind it. This effect lessens the minimum focus distance between the camera lens and a subject. Magnification can then be obtained by decreasing the distance between the subject and the combined camera lens and close-up lens.

B+W 65-076279 Overview

The B+W 77mm Close-Up +3 SC NL 3 Lens offers the ability to achieve macro-like results with camera lenses that have 77mm front filter threads. A close-up lens is a magnifier that optically decreases the focal length of a camera lens placed behind it. This effect lessens the minimum focus distance between the camera lens and a subject. Magnification can then be obtained by decreasing the distance between the subject and the combined camera lens and close-up lens.

The magnifying power of a close-up lens is indicated by its diopter strength. A close-up lens with a higher diopter number provides more relative magnification and can be combined with other close-up lenses to increase, or fine-tune the macro effect. This close-up lens has a diopter strength of +3. Diopter strengths of +1, +2, +4, or +5 are also available where this close-up lens type's effect becomes progressively stronger with each diopter strength number increase.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface of this lens includes one layer of anti-reflection coating. B+W close-up lenses are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity. This close-up lens features an F-Pro brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Bad choice for me

I purchased this filter to use on my Nikkor 80-400mm lens. The results were like looking through a milky special effects refraction lens. B+W makes some of the best filters you can buy, and I own several. But in this case I believe this is just a combination that was not meant to be. I am exchanging them for the Kenko Auto Extension Tubes. At least I will not be adding additional optics.

Good product

Perfect for UW wide angle use. Better coating and thinnest among HELIOPAN and HOYA (this is the worst). Comes with good case (best among above mentioned). Unlike HOYA and HELIOPAN works well with Tokina 11-16 lens. Almost no vigneting on 11m side.

very good. Exelent.

It seems like I will have to use 16 or 32 f stop so more depght of field. Thanks for such a good product. I use the product: flower leafe plus moss on trees Plus everything close up.

It works just as advertised!

I use it to get really close with my 70-200L lens. I did not realize just how close +3 would get me down from 1.4m. It is within inches. I did not expect the viewfinder image to have a halo effect in some conditions, but the image is crystal clear. This is my first use of close-up filters and I like.

saves me from hauling another lens

I do a lot of hiking & canoeing. Closeup lens saves me from hauling another lens around. Images are not sharp when zoomed at 200mm but gets better when zoomed under 135mm. You cant mount a lens cap because the lens is convex and sticks out past the mounting ring. You need to unscrew it and put it away between shooting sessions.

Nothing beets a B+W filter from B&H. They have the best prices on these quality filters.

Good solution for zoom lens.

Very few zoom lenses will focus very closely, so if you want to be able to do an occasional detail shot this is a very useful accessory to have along. I bought the +3 and the +5 filters and they do stack too, so I have access to a good distance range. It's not nearly as simple or quick to use as a macro lens, and the image quality isn't as good as a macro lens either, but if you want the flexibility of a zoom lens and still want to go an occasional closeup shot, this is a great solution.

Best in its class.

Lowest metall frame suitable for 16mm (DX) lenses. Great coating of the glass and mate finishing of frame.
