AMD 8350 overview

  • 1Description

The 8-Core FX 8350 4 GHz Processor from AMD is an eight-core desktop processor with 8MB L2 and 8MB L3 cache. It is capable of handling multiple intensive apps and features a speed frequency of 4 GHz to 4.2 GHz. This processor comes equipped with AMD64 technology, AMD Turbo CORE technology, HyperTransport technology, AMD Memory Optimizer technology, AMD Virtualization (AMD-V) technology, and AMD PowerNow! technology (Cool 'n' Quiet technology). It also features Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX), Floating-Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate and eXtended Operations (FMA4 & XOP), and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES).

AMD Turbo CORE Technology
Helps improve performance of CPU intensive applications by providing faster clock speeds
Instruction Capabilities
Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism for scientific and 3D apps using heavy floating point calculations
Floating-Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate and eXtended Operations (FMA4 & XOP) improves throughput and performance on many integer and floating point vector functions
Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) increases performance on encryption apps like TrueCrypt and PCMark
AMD Balanced Smart Cache
Shared L3 cache (up to 8MB) for improved scheduling and pre-fetch capabilities
64-ways (16-ways/sub-cache)
Increased data queue sizes
Coherency for 8 cores
AMD Wide Floating Point Accelerator
Shared FP scheduler
Dual 128-bit floating point engines can team together for 256-bit AVX instructions or operate separately with each core
HyperTransport Technology
One 16-bit link at up to 5600 MT/s
Up to 8.0GB/s HyperTransport I/O bandwidth; Up to 16GB/s in HyperTransport Generation 3.0 mode
Up to 37GB/s total delivered processor-to-system bandwidth (HyperTransport bus + memory bus)
Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology
A high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller
Supports up to DDR3-1866 with 1 DPC (DIMM per channel) in single memory slot motherboard designs
Supports low voltage memories of 1.35V and 1.2V
Up to 29.9GB/s memory bandwidth for DDR3
Pre-fetcher improvements
Direct communications to each core in dual-core module (APIC registers in each core)
AMD Virtualization (AMD-V) Technology with IOMMU
Silicon feature-set enhancements for improved performance, reliability, and security of existing and future virtualization environments by allowing virtualized apps direct, rapid access to their allocated memory
IOMMU (Input/Output Memory Management Unit) is an extension to AMD64 architecture to support address translation and access protection on DMA transfers
Security for user-level application and virtual machine guest OS
Address translation and access control
Device isolation
Device assignment in virtualized systems
Security and trusted boot support
Unified interrupt management
AMD PowerNow! Technology (Cool 'n' Quiet Technology)
Automatically and instantaneously adjusts performance states and features based on processor performance requirements
C6 power state for cache flush and voltage down individual cores
CC6 power state allows all cores in C6 to power even lower for quieter operation and reduced power requirements
Separate memory controller power control
I/O-based c-state interface
Works automatically without the need for drivers or BIOS enablement
Power can be switched on or off within a single clock cycle, saving energy with no impact on performance

    AMD 8350 reviews

    8-Core FX 8350 4 GHz Processor is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet! I upgraded my CPU from the AMD FX 6300 to this 8350. I do a lot of HD video work with Power Director 14 which is a very CPU demanding program. Not only is editing video much more responsive and stable but the render times have improved dramatically. A 10 minute long HD video took about 20 minutes to render with the FX 6300. The same video takes about 7 minutes to render with the FX 8350. Make sure you get a good heat sink for any AMD CPU, they run hot. Don't rely on the stock heat sink.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best AM3+ CPU! Managed to overclock this bad boy up to 4.7 GHz at 1.46 V. Keeps between 55-65 c under load. Definitely get a water cooler if you plan on doing a serious overclock. I've got a corsair h100i gtx in push/pull to keep temps in check.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The last upgrade my first build can handle This processor is a few years old now and there are others that run circles around it for a bit higher price. But if your just upgrading an older PC that happened to have an am3+ motherboard with a new component, this will breath new life into that old rig. I haven't tested it for video editing yet but I've heard good things, as gaming, it can handle most released within the last 4-5 years. There are a couple out in 2017 and 2018 that require the next generation over for recommended settings.
