Polar FT7 overview

  • 1Description

The blue and lilac FT7 Training Computer Watch from POLAR is a wrist-worn watch with a large easy-to-read backlit screen. It includes an H1 coded transmitter that is worn around your chest to monitor your heart rate. The transmitter sends ECG accurate heart rate signals to the training computer.

With the FT7 you gain access to Polarpersonaltrainer.com where you can track your progress by either entering your data into the site manually, or by data transfer using the optional FlowLink.

Smart Coaching
OwnCal calculates the number of calories expended during a training session based on your weight, height, age, gender, maximum heart rate, and your training regimen.
EnergyPointer
Indicates a center point between fat burning and aerobic fitness improvement. When below that point, you are burning fat, and above that point, you are improving aerobic fitness.
Polarpersonaltrainer.com
With your account on Polarpersonaltrainer.com you can analyze your training regimen through a training diary, watch your training load and recovery, and follow specified training programs.
Data Transfer
With the purchase of the optional FlowLink, you can send all of your training data directly from your FT7 to your PC or Intel-based Mac.
Manual Target Zone
Define your target zone as you see fit to your training. You can set your target zone as beats per minute, as a percentage of your maximum heart rate, or as a percentage of your heart rate reserve.
POLAR OwnCode
POLAR OwnCode is a coded transmission that automatically locks in a code to transmit your heart rate to your wrist-worn training computer. Your training computer will read your heart rate only from your transmitter, preventing interference from other training computers.
Training Files
Training information for up to 99 sessions. You can view your average heart rate, maximum heart rate, and date of your last training session, as well as weekly history.
Totals
You can follow your long term training by using the training data totals starting from the last reset.
HeartTouch
When you're training, you can change the display information by bringing the training computer close to the heart rate's sensor. Keep the computer close to the sensor until you hear a beep and the desired information is displayed. This is especially helpful if you are wearing gloves and can't access the buttons.
Graphical Target Zone Indicator
This feature graphically displays the zone you are in during a training session, helping you to stay on the desired intensity zone. A ZoneLock feature allows you to lock a zone before or during a training session.
Water Resistant
While the FT7 is water resistant, and can be worn while swimming, pressing the buttons underwater is not recommended. When wearing the FT7 in chlorinated water or saltwater, you may notice some interference with the heart rate monitor's readings.

    Polar FT7 reviews

FT7 Training Computer Watch (Blue/Lilac) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well This heart rate monitor system works pretty well for me. I use it to check my heart rate while doing both long distance runs as well as high intensity interval training. I helps me to see how hard my body is working and whether or not I can push harder. It seems accurate and have had no troubles syncing up. Just wet the back of the band to get connectivity per the manual and you're good to do. If you want fancy readouts with timers and stuff, you'll be paying well over $100. This at least tells me what amount of time of my finished workout was in the fatburn zone and what was in the fitness zone as well as total calories. Works for me. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great basic heart monitor I heartily (pun intended) recommend the Polar FT7 heart monitor. This is your basic heart monitor for those looking to monitor their heart rate and determine how many calories they've burned. It doesn't come with all the bells and whistles like GPS but if you don't need GPS, why pay for it? This is my second FT7. The first one lasted me about 8 years. One of the pluses about this heart monitor is that you can change the battery yourself (about once a year) and you don't need to constantly charge the unit. Another plus is the monitor's accuracy. This is NOT a wrist based measuring device which are well known to be inaccurate. It comes with a separate heart rate strap (included) which you wear around your chest. So it's a lot more accurate than other heart rate monitors that cost $100 more. There's a transmitter (called an H1) on the chest strap that sends your heart rate info to the FT7. You input your information into the FT7, such as height, weight, age and sex and the FT7 computes how many calories you've burned. You can check your heart rate and calorie consumption at any time by pushing a button. There's a separate device that's called a Polar Flowlink that you can use to download all your workout data and access at any time. All in all this is a great product that gets the job done more accurately than other fancy monitors that costs hundreds more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect no frills heart monitor This is the perfect heart monitor for anyone looking to know their heart rate and measure how many calories they've burned. This monitor is extremely accurate because it comes with a chest strap and second monitor which sends your heart rate info to the computer watch. On the watch you input your height, weight, age and sex and the computer will measure the calories you burn. A separate device that you buy separately can then transfer all the info on the watch to your computer. This doesn't have GPS. Pluses include the fact you can change the batteries yourself and you don't need to power it up every few days via USB port. I like the fact that it's very accurate. Your wrist based heart monitors are suspect and not known for accuracy!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Helpful, but limited i use it to get a more accurate heartrate measure than gym equipment. the transmitter also happens to work with the machines (eg, elliptical) at my gym (planet fitness), so i don't have to hold the grips on the machine and, even better, it allows me to use the programs in the machines. it also allows me to compare sessions from day to day and how different activities effect my fitness.but it's limited, in that, it only measures heartrate. eg, no timers to alert you when you've been sitting for too long.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great product but.. Great product, i love it. But the black and red FT7 is hard to read because the display is gray on black, and the numbers are very small. the alarm and sound are very difficult to hear (almost impossible).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good basic training monitor The heart rate monitor works well in its basic mode, i.e. to display the current heart rate. I only use it in this mode, so I am unfamiliar with the other features.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Monitors Heart -- as it should! So far, so good! I've only used the FT7 for two weeks now, but it works exactly as advertised. The device shows your changing heart rate during the exercise session, and as a result, I'm able to increase or lessen my efforts to stay within my desired heart beat range. One thing when using, fully wet the contact area on the strap before beginning in order to achieve maximum results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love Love Love!!! Can't say enough great things about my FT7... It's become my new go to for my workouts... It's reliable, stylish, and fairly accurate... I'm sold on the Polar brand and am a total convert... I previously owned a Sportline 630 Cardio HRM and it doesn't hold a candle to my FT7... I hope to have this baby for a long, long time to come...
