    PNY Technologies P-FD128TBOP-GE Reviews

128GB Turbo 3.0 USB Flash Drive is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 107.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very fast, but not for OS installs This drive is really fast for regular things, like holding files, but if you plan on making this an OS boot drive, you have to use a live boot OS. You cannot really install the 'normal' version of the OS. I first tried installing desktop Ubuntu on the drive, and after I got that working (was fairly difficult) the OS would hang occasionally waiting for the drive to catch up (slow random data access, see link for benchmark) So I formatted and installed the live usb version of ubuntu, and now it works great! I'm guessing more data is cached to ram with the live boot version. I plan on partitioning the drive and multibooting various OS's. Oh another sidenote here. Windows 7 cannot boot from a usb 3.0 drive, so you will have to use win 8 (if you want portable windows).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Read this write speed specs is getting slower! I don't know if PNY put cheaper components through the years of their product manufacturing:Late 2013 - bought 128GB, Crystal speed: Read 200MB/s Write 138 MB/sFeb 2014 - bought 128GB, Crystal speed: Read 192MB/s Write 108MB/sApril 2014 - bought 128GB, Crystal speed: Read 160MB/s Write 80MB/sFeb 2016 - bought 128GB, Crystal speed: Read 101MB/s Write 21MB/s (yes read this! 21MB/s! I bought 4 and tested all same write speed of only 21MB/s! I still have my old PNY 128GBs USB3.0 and all still have tested speeds. It's a shame PNY is going backward with it's technology!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great speed, size not really 128GB I bought two of these to back up my ultrabook while travelling. The Write speed is very good, at times reaching about 125MB/s but averaging less depending on the type of copy task. No caps to lose which is good. I would have given it five stars except for the fact that actual available storage on the drive is only 119GB which is significantly less than the advertised 128GB. There does not appear to be another partition or empty space on the drive either so who knows where the missing 9GB is. I have only had the drives for a couple of weeks so I cannot say anything further regarding reliability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, fast, small Easily reformatted into multiple Apple GUID partitions, giving me a digital swiss army knife of install and repair bootable drives for every version of Mac OS from 10.6 forward.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very impressed bought a bunch of these to give as gifts with 70GB of family oral history videos. For the price it is hard to beat, I was able download the content in about 20 minutes (a big deal when having just a day to get them downloaded in time for the family Xmas party. Compared to the first attempt at a $ high speed flash card it was like night and day. This is way better built. Not so good that you would want to stuff it in your pocket and carry with you all of the time but decent enough that you should get a good life out of it with reasonable precautions.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failed for me I have other PNY flashdrives that work fine. This one didn't. I was planning to use it to copy things from my Microsoft Surface Pro as a backup. I have less than 64gb to backup. It recognized the drive right away and from there on everything went wrong. It started to copy and then just seemed like it had stopped as the indicator line showed no movement. It did let me stop copying and then when I tried to again the computer no longer recognized the drive. I plugged it into my MacBook Pro and it also was as if it wasn't there. Bummer. I had to return it and got a refund because I was too nervous to want a replacement as I was using it for a backup. Made me decide a flashdrive wasn't reliable enough for that.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Excellent inside, bad outside Extremely good price for 128 GB flash drive with USB 3.0. Works perfectly fine with my Macbook and Smart TV, and it could be easily reformatted to NTFS if needed. Super fast file copying via 3.0 from SSD of my mac compared with my old 2.0 USB flash drive. What i dislike is plastic body of the drive. This plastic is so cheapish! Espesially silver part. Ugh! Don't even think of neat look if you're going to keep it somewhere in your bag with keys, pens, books, etc. Sliding cap feels flimsy. I think it will break in a few months if using frequently. Also, this product has only one year warranty, which looks kind of suspicious. I've seen 5 and 10-year warranty on a similar flash products, but, you know, just sayin'. I recommend this product if you need much storage and your budget is limited. However, if you're fine with 64, 32 GB or even less, and if you're searching for something beautiful, sleek and metal, you can skip this PNY drive in a heartbeat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast and Lots of Capacity I am using this as the primary storage for my base-model MacBook Air. Not only is it fast enough to provide the speed I need and be compatible with my speedy ultraportable, I can immediately access my projects and other data on up to four computers I use daily, bypassing absurd IT security restrictions that prohibit usage of cloud storage. Availability of this device negated the need for a larger SSD in my laptop, allowing me to take advantage of another screaming' deal from B&h - a heavy discount on the base MacBook Air (which I love).
