The 1208-8 SPS BWX Black Widow Weather Resistant Woofer from Peavey features a mid-range 12" cone at 8Ω impedance. The 1208-8 is designed to work best with crossover points below 2.5kHz but can also work with crossover points up to 3.5 kHz.
This cone is a variation on the existing Kevlar impregnated cones used on all Black Widows, it is weather resistant and is constructed of triple polymer infused composite. It also features a dust cap which is made from the same polymer material.
The voice coil assembly uses the thermoset-insulated aluminum ribbon wire, bonded onto a durable, heat resistant polyimide composite former. The coil wires are solderless diffusion welded to high conductivity OFHC copper foil leads, which are embedded inside the former assembly and soldered to the tinsel leads with high temperature silver solder. The solder joint is then coated with a special thermally conductive silicone adhesive for encapsulation and heat dissipation.
The voice coil assembly is bonded to the Kevlar cone and nylon composite spider using a thermoset epoxy originally developed for attaching nose cones to ICBM missiles. The magnet structure includes subtle changes to its geometry that improve power handling. The driver features a cast aluminum frame, replaceable basket assembly, Rubatex gaskets and spring-loaded terminals.
Note: Because the 1208 SPS BWX WR low frequency output is limited, it should be used along with a subwoofer when response below 60 Hz is needed.
