The Peavey BWX Driver Series 1808-8cu Black Widow Loudspeaker is suitable for high-performance sound reinforcement and musical instrument applications. The loudspeaker’s equipped cone is water-resistant, and has a specially designed deep roll accordion surround. The dust cap is also made of the same material.
The voice coil assemblies on the drivers use thermoset insulated aluminum or copper ribbon wire, bonded onto a durable, heat-resistant polyimide composite former. The coil wires are solderless, and diffusion welded to high-conductivity OFHC copper ribbon leads, which are embedded inside the former assembly and soldered to the tinsel leads with high temperature silver solder. The solder joint is then coated with a special, thermally conductive silicone adhesive for encapsulation and heat dissipation.
The voice coil assemblies are bonded to the Kevlar cone and tough nylon composite spider using a thermoset epoxy. The spider and surround are bonded to the frame with a high-strength adhesive.
The baskets from the 1808 series fit on standard BW magnet structures (the improved power handling will be compromised if the standard structure is used).
The 1808-8cu Black Widow Loudspeaker’s drivers are suitable for a wide range of sound reinforcement, high level playback, sub woofer, musical instrument and other low-frequency applications.
The speaker features convenient baskets that eliminate the need for re-coning speakers, and the frustration and delays associated with the re-coning process. It only takes a few minutes to replace a basket and you are back in business.
The 1808-8cu Loudspeaker is designed to work in small vented enclosures with surprising bass extension and high output. Its low-frequency response is not quite deep, but it performs in small enclosures. The midbass balance of this driver is generally neutral.
