Metabones MB_SPNFG-BMCC-BM1 Overview

The Nikon G Lens to Blackmagic 2.5k Cinema Camera with Micro-4/3 Mount Speed Booster from Metabones allows a Nikon G lens to be mounted to a 2.5k Cinema Camera and in doing so, increases the angle of view and the maximum aperture.

The Speed Booster uses 6-element optical design that incorporates ultra-high index glass to achieve ideal optical performance at the largest apertures. It increases the maximum aperture by 1 1/3 stops with a maximum aperture of f/0.8, and reduces the crop factor from 2.39x to 1.53x.

The Speed Booster not only increases the field of view and lens speed, it also increases the lens' MTF, or how faithfully the lens transfers detail from the object to the camera sensor. These increases in MTF are seen in the corners as well as the center of the images.

Built into the Speed Booster is a clickless aperture ring, a must-have feature for cinematographers, as well as a removable Arca-type compatible tripod mount.

Note:
Not compatible with the Blackmagic Pocket Camera.

Product worked like a charm.

increase speed, reduce crop

Expand lens options and get an extra stop of light. Good optics and well made. I use it w GH4 which is off-label use, but gives less crop and more speed than the metabones Nikon/MFT speedbooster. Must set camera to electronic shutter to use.

BMC 2.5k's - Metabones Speed Booster

The Metabones Speed Booster is a must have for the BLACK MAGIC 2.5K and the pocket camera with the Micro-4/3 mount. The optics are framed closer and the aperture is better for light. This Metabones adapter gives me the ability to use Nikon mount lenses that are non-manual which is a huge plus! It is a crucial part of my BMC 2.5k rig.

Nice piece of kit

I use this with Nikkor AIS lenses on my BMCC 2.5K. Solidly built, high quality glass, easy to use and does what it says. Just remember the lens conversion. This will not make your 28mm FX lens a 28mm. You'll need a DX lens for that. For my wide shots I use a Sigma 18-125mm DX kit lens. For what it does the Metabones Nikon to 2.5K Speed booster is worth the price.

An essential solution.

The crop factor of the BMCC could be a deal breaker, if not for this adapter. I use it with the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8, to get a Super-35 equivalent field of view. YES, 18mm is wide, and zooming in this range creates a very nice standard view. That's not even the best part, though. Wide open, this adapter turns the f/1.8 lens into something like f/1.2. Solid build. Smooth aperture. The only difficulty in using the adapter's aperture ring is the markings, which are labeled from F to 1 through to 7. You have to know your lens' stops to know what you're truly shooting at.

THIS MOUNT MAKES THE BMCC A CONTENDER

I was planning on getting rid of my BMCC and then this came out. Being able to shoot wider, faster, and sharper than before is a real game changer for BMCC. Having this mount makes me feel like I was missing out on owning a completely useable camera. Mounts very snug like it is a part of the camera, which is where I leave it always. Smooth aperture ring that works with non manual aperture lenses. FANTASTIC!

Will this work With The Blackmagic Pocket 4K camera?

Not that we are aware of, this adapter is specifically for the older Cinema Camera 2.5K MFT. Instead we recommend the Metabones Speed Booster Ultra 0.71x Adapter for Nikon G Lens to Micro Four Thirds-Mount Camera, B&H # MESPNFGM43B3. https://bhpho.to/2mFmebJ

question

Does Metabones make a product that will allow me to use my Nikon full frame lenses on the Production Camera 4K and the URSA while speed boosting and changing the crop factor?
Asked by: Basil
Speedboosters work when you have a small sensor, larger format lens and a short lens flange depth like a MFT or E-mount. (Flange depth being the distance from the lens mount to the sensor). It takes the large image and squeezes it down to the smaller sensor. In the process of squeezing, it concentrates the light making the image brighter. Genius! Why this was not thought of years ago, I do not know since it is actually the process of a tele converter in reverse. However, this process does not work when you have a larger size sensor and long flange depth like you have with the BM 4K and it's EF or PL mount. If you had such a Speedbooster, the image would not reach the sensor properly and thus is would not be in focus. I am not a camera designer but what I think would be needed is a BM 4K with a MFT or E mount.

question

Do I need to power this externally?
Asked by: Anonymous
You don't need power and this speed booster won't offer power to your lens. it just use the aperture ring to adjust aperture manually .

question

How do I know what my f-stop is?
Asked by: Ronald
You need to calculate depending of your lens.If you have a f2.0, the Speed Booster brings it to a f1.4 equivalent, which is your 0. Then from there you get f2.0 with F at 1 on the Speed Booster, then f2.8,4 etc...

question

I'm using this with the 2.5k cinema camera, do I need to power this while shooting?do I need to buy a power adapter to use this
Asked by: Anonymous
The Metabones Speed Booster is a passive mount. Meaning no power runs through it. You'll be able to control your aperture with the ring on the speed booster. Focus will be manual
