The SFN5322F Dual Port 10GbE SFP+ Server Adapter from Solarflare combines precision time synchronization with low latency 10G Ethernet. It accelerates time synchronization by performing precision hardware time-stamping of IEEE 1588 Ethernet frames, delivering superior application performance on a single data network and in a single PCIe slot.

This server adapter eliminates the need for a secondary server adapter (freeing PCIe slot) and dedicated appliances for clock distribution, while facilitating slave servers to synchronize internal clocks to a network master clock.

The SFN5322F server adapter driver seamlessly interfaces to host software time synchronization solutions that utilize the standard Linux socket option SO_TIMESTAMPING, such as PTPv1 or PTPv2 daemons, which implement the IEEE 1588 time synchronization protocols. Driver interfaces to kernels that predate SO_TIMESTAMPING are also available.

Precision Time Synchronization
The SFN5322F server adapter utilizes a precision clock source, which meets the requirements for use in a Stratum 3 clock system for network synchronization. Its precision clock stability enables servers to synchronize to a data network clock with precision, and serve as a stable clock source. Products utilizing crystals can drift significantly over time, temperature, and age, resulting in an inferior clock synchronization solution. In PTP applications the SFN5322F server adapter limits drift and increases precision, which are key factors for precision PTP clock synchronization.
Performance
This server adapter delivers high message rate and low latency along with 40 Gb/s bi-directional line-rate performance. Featuring a set of stateless offloads, it provides efficient acceleration of the network protocol tasks.
OpenOnload Application Accelerator
The server adapter supports Solarflare's OpenOnload application accelerator (user-level network stack for Linux). The OpenOnload provides performance with application compatibility and protocol compliance, bypassing kernel and networking overheads, while featuring binary compatibility with standard APIs and applications.
Energy Efficient
At 2.6W per port, this server adapter enables low power consumption, offering low latency 10 G Ethernet with additional precision time stamping capabilities
