The B+W 67mm Close-Up +5 SC NL 5 Lens offers the ability to achieve macro-like results with camera lenses that have 67mm front filter threads. A close-up lens is a magnifier that optically decreases the focal length of a camera lens placed behind it. This effect lessens the minimum focus distance between the camera lens and a subject. Magnification can then be obtained by decreasing the distance between the subject and the combined camera lens and close-up lens.

The magnifying power of a close-up lens is indicated by its diopter strength. A close-up lens with a higher diopter number provides more relative magnification, and can be combined with other close-up lenses to increase or fine-tune the macro effect. This close-up lens has a diopter strength of +5. Diopter strengths of +1, +2, +3, or +4 are also available where this close-up lens type's effect becomes progressively stronger with each diopter strength number increase.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface of this lens includes one layer of anti-reflection coating. B+W close-up lenses are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity. This close-up lens features an F-Pro brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

The B+W Close-Up +5 SC NL 5 Lens possesses a front surface with a high degree of curvature and no front filter threads. To combine this B+W 67 Close-Up +5 SC NL 5 Lens with other close-up lenses or filters, it must screwed onto the very top of any combination of stacked close-up lenses or filters.

    67mm Close-Up +5 SC NL 5 Lens is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality and lots of fun This +5 close-up lens is a great way to get into macro photography if you can't afford a real macro lens or if you are just starting and want to see if you will like macro work. This close-up lens does not seem to affect the sharpness of the main lens unless you enlarge to a great extent. Only problem seems to be the fact that the camera does not autofocus when this lens is attached (I have a Nikon D80). This is not a real problem - I switch the main lens to manual focus and fine tune the focus by moving the camera toward or away from the subject. No big deal... I highly recommend this attachment if you do not have a true macro lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cheaper alternative to a macro lens It is sharp only in the centre of the lens, everything around it is blurred, as if it has a really small field of depth. But at the center it is quite sharp. Allows less light to enter by about 2 stops, so you have to make sure the environment is well lit or increase the ISO. Considering the price compared to a macro lens, this is a good alternative though. Another advantage of this lens is that you can quickly screw it on top of you existing lens for a macro shot instead of having to switch to a macro lens and thereby avoiding the risk of letting dust into your camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really great product I use the close up lens for close up work on flowers where I wish to get in much closer than my normal zoom lens will allow . I sometimes use the lens in conjunction with an extension tube which brings me into macro work with much less cost than a true macro lens . I prefer using just the close up lens it is a lot less weight to lug around when walking in our local parks. I am 70 years old and any way I can carry less I am all for . All in all it is a good product and would recomend to anyone wishing to get in to close up photography cheaply .

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Watch Out for Compatability Be careful. This does not work well with all lenses. Most long lenses of 70mm or greater are very very soft and have a glowing halo around everything. Other wider lenses seems ok but the effect is lessened on wider lenses.Bought it specifically for the Canon 100mm f/2.0 to try and get a little closer and the halo effect was terrible. It is almost like a soft fuzzy chromatic aberration (CA) all around every edge. Tried it on my Tamron 70-300mm with the same results. Tamron 17-50mm, Sigma 30mm f/1.4 seemed good but the magnification effect was minimal as close-up filters are more effective on longer focal lengths at least according to this article which is one of several reasons I decided to try close-up filters over other options... @

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A cheaper alternative Can't afford a macro lens yet, so I was looking for an alternative. Was able to compare results to a borrowed macro 100mm lens. I was happy to see similar results using the macro and diopter. Need to move the tripod around to focus properly, so it's more cumbersome to use. But for the money, it is a great way to go to get nice shots.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Macro Shortcut This particular size at 5X is a great filter. I got 2 and love that they stack well. I did notice that the glass rubs slightly in the center when they are stacked. But great glass for the $. I have a macro option for my kit lens now!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Next Best Thing to a Macro Lens I use the Close-Up NL +5 lens for those unplanned times when a macro opportunity presents itself during daily shoots. While this little addition won't get quite as close as my macro gear, it makes up for it in ease of use. It's very lightweight, with a sturdy carrying case, and attaches right onto the mounted lens. Instant close-up! While this item will never replace macro-lenses, I will always have it in my pocket. Well worth the price!
