LensAlign LA-FUS Overview

The LensAlign MkII with FocusTune V4 Software from Lensalign includes the LensAlign MkII Generation 4 Focus Calibration System and FocusTune Version 4 Calibration Software for use with DSLRs featuring autofocus micro-adjustment. The MkII assembles into a system that offers a dual-sided focus target and a focus display ruler and works with the FocusTune software to provide accurate measurements and readings of the information.

The MkII is built of sturdy card stock and the display ruler of polystyrene, it assembles and disassembles easily for versatile long term use with any lens and with DSLR's equipped with auto focus adjustment capability. The 10.5" plastic Focus Display Ruler offers a choice of graphic display patterns on both sides (black with white numerals and white with black numerals) and is situated along the focus target at a 20º angle for optimized depth of field display.

To use, simply place the MkII on a table or use the integrated 1/4"-20 tripod mount to set the system on a tripod and with your DSLR on a second tripod, use the True Parallel Alignment feature to accurately align camera and target. With the aperture open as much as possible, focus your lens onto the target and see your lens's focus error on the display ruler. These images can then be used in the suite of tests included in FocusTune to provide you with accurate results.

Afterward, simply enter the data garnered into your camera's menu and it will adjust the auto focus to be precise and retain that information to be utilized each time you use that specific lens. This bundle includes license keys for both Mac and Windows and can be installed on 2 computers simultaneously.

What if I have a 500mm lens or a 100-400 mm tele is there a different rule that can be used.

The LensAlign comes with the standard ruler. For longer lens they make a different ruler as an accessory for the kit.LensAlign Long Ruler Add-On for LensAlign MkIIB&H # LELALRK2 Mfr # LA-LRK2http://bhpho.to/1k5YOIp

question

Will the software work with my Canon T1i camera? Or the new 70D? Will it work with any lens? Just wondering what the limitations are for compatibility of camera equipment. Thanks!
Asked by: Anonymous
In order to use the LensAlign Fusion Bundle, your camera needs to have the ability to fine tune autofocus, such as an AF Microadjustment custom function. The 70D does have the AF Microadjustment function, while the T1i does not have this option. So, you could use this bundle with the 70D but not the T1i. As for lenses, the ruler and target that come with this bundle should be suitable with lenses that have up to a 300mm focal length.

question

What does the software package do/add to the package? Does it directly connect to the camera through a USB connection? Does it evaluate the image to help you find the precise focus adjustment needed? How does the software bring value over the basic kit with just the focus target?
Asked by: Anonymous
The MKII is just the latest version of the target to take a series of jpeg images, which you then put in a directory/folder on your computer. You then run the FocusTune software and point it to the folder, and then the software analyzes the images, giving you graphs to aid you, in finding the best Autofocus Adjustment for each of your AF lenses. The software doesn't really connect to your camera. It just looks at your jpeg images of the Target in a given folder. You really need the software and a target, to do a thorough analysis. They sell the individual parts probably for previous product owners, to get the latest targets or software. You could theoretically do your own visual analysis of your jpeg test images of just the target, reading the scale of the ruler on your images, but that is just too much extra work for me.

I don't see Nikon Z cameras listed in their camera support info. Will this work with Nikon Z6 and Z7, they both have AF fine-tune function?
Asked by: Reno
Yes, if your camera has fine tune af, then it will work but mirrorless cameras typically dont need to be calibrated due to no mirror and prism.

Asked by: Angel R.
I haven't had any problems using it with Windows 10. It seems to behave as it did on Windows 7 on the same machine. I just did use it to calibrate my lenses with a new body and it worked as before.
