    SiliconDust HDHomeRun DUAL reviews

HDHomeRun CONNECT is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 47.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from No Support for Windows 10 Someone needs to highlight the fact that HDHomeRun View WILL NOT WORK with Windows 10. You get sound but no video. It is not totally SD's fault. Microsoft has removed the Codec needed to convert the video (you cannot watch DVDs with a new Win10 install, or .mpg or others, either). The problem I have with SD is that they acknowledge the problem, but expressly refuse to tell you how to work around the problem. Only, apparently, if people boycotted the product until SD remedied the situation, would it get fixed. So, as well as it works with my older Windows installs, do not buy this until it fixes the Windows 10 issue.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good function, weak tuners This new upgraded HDHomeRun has improved tuners, but they still are weak. Both my Pioneer and Panasonic TVs pull in marginal stations with fewer glitches. Works well with stronger stations, well integrated with the Windows Media Center. View the guide, pick the shows you want to record. I don't have it directly on the network so I can't comment on network performance, its connected to my media center directly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Function I have the new generation HomeRun Dual connected to a spare three year old Acer netbook via ethernet cable. The Windose 7 netbook is running its built in windows media center and is connected via wifi to the house network. It has plenty of horsepower for this task. I share the record folder and pull videos off remotely from my Mac to edit (using handbrake to convert). The system works very well, well integrated with the media center, solid. Similar to DVRs, you can pick and chose programs from a guide. The HomeRun tuners may have been improved, but they are still weak, about on the par with PVR-150s. My five year old AM21 runs circles around the HomeRun, recording shows from TV stations that the Home Run can't lock onto. Although this has two tuners, there is only one antenna connection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great addition to Apple TV I use this to wirelessly stream an OTA to my Apple TV with the Channels app. Works flawlessly with no issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Device - Cut Your Cable First, a comment about the 1 star review - It should be removed as this device works flawlessly with Windows 10. Depending on your location and antenna this device will pull in a number of OTA stations. 23 in our area, it also provides a buffering aspect so we seldom to never see pixilation. Frankly the quality of the signal surpasses local cable and satellite (we have had both). I would recommend UPS for your network and this device if your area is prone to electrical flickers (during storms). Having a UPS will keep the network up and the stations on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great HD tuner used with AppleTV and iPad via Channels App Very nice product. Using it with AppleTV and iPad Channels App by Fancy Bits. We have the HDHomeRun up high in the house where a simple indoor HD antenna can get good reception and then we watch TV using the Channels app on the AppleTV in the Living Room (1st floor) where the antenna reception would not be very good. We can also watch TV anywhere in the house using an iPad. Two tuners is really helpful when more than one person wants to watch different shows on different devices. Image quality is very good. Usability is very good with Channels App. Very happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Strong OTA tuner, 2 steams makes this a great device to stream free tv. Many companion apps out there to use with Apple TV, Android tablets etc. Worth it completely, a good investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbelievably Easy Over many years, I've investigated and vicariously dabbled through friends in the dark arts of getting television signals into a computer and prior to my purchase of this product I would've recommended that the average person avoid this quagmire at all costs. I recently changed televisions to a model without an included tuner and I decided that the best option was to add tuning to my existing HTPC infrastructure, currently a mix/hybrid of Plex and Kodi. Conveniently this was also the time when Plex was adding support for DVR functionality to Plex Media Server, so the synergy was delicious. I ordered this box on specific recommendation from a friend that Knows Things, as well as numerous positive reviews on the internet at large. Despite the glowing aura surrounding this box, I still expected I would have to futz with it for some non-zero amount of time to get it to work, as that's typically the nature of anything in the HTPC space. I was absolutely wrong. This was one of the easiest installs I've ever done. I plugged in the three cables (coax from antenna, wired ethernet and power), waited until the light turned green, opened the appropriate plugin on my Kodi machine and it located the HDHomeRun automatically and was immediately able to tune OTA channels. If you discount the time it took me to slide furniture around and route cables, this was a one minute setup that worked on the first try. High on my unexpected success, I also took a run at configuring Plex Media Server and though I did have to find/provide the IP address of the tuner in that case, it still worked like magic and successfully DVR'd a show the first try. I cannot overstate how inexplicably simple this was, the HDHomeRun CONNECT is worth every single penny.
