Photo Clam PRO 38NS overview

  • 1Description

The PRO 38NS Ball Head from Photo Clam is an Arca-type compatible, lightweight, professional-quality ball head with separate locks for tilt and pan, as well as friction control, that enable precise positioning. It weighs only 0.8 lb, and can hold up to 77 lb.

The ball's movement is controlled by a locking knob, while the 360° panning movement is controlled by a separate lock, making panoramic photos possible. A 90° notch in the head allows the camera to be positioned in the portrait orientation. Two tubular and one bull's eye bubble levels ensure that your camera will be level on the horizontal and vertical planes.

    Photo Clam PRO 38NS reviews

PRO 38NS Ball Head is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why pay more for a great ballhead!?! I love this ball head. I had a grip head previous to this, and it was a chore balancing and getting the camera straight. This head moves so easily, locks securely, is easy to level, and is lighter. I couldn't be happier with it. I thought about getting one of their heavier duty models, but then I decided that 65 or 70 pounds, which is what this model holds securely, was way more capacity than I needed for my setup. If this weight capacity works for you, this is a great device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy touch controls This ball head offers smooth pano adjustment and is easy to lock into position. The small inner ring adjustment makes getting it to lock to fit your feel is a surprising bonus. It's a huge improvement over the 3 leggedthings Airhead 3 with pano clamp. No more wobbly head and creep down with a heavy lens. My only regret is that I should have bought this long ago. It's saving me time during the shoots and post processing since it's rock solid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice ball head I got this head on the recomendation of another photographer. I am glad I got it. I have a 7D - .70-200mm II - 2x TC III. When I set the tension properly the head allows me to easily move the camera in any direction while at the same time holding it in place when I turn loose of it. It has levels on it. It has a push button release to keep the lens from falling off when you loosen the tightening screw. Seems very well built.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice ballhead at a great price I've been using a Markins M10 Ballhead for many years now, and it has set the standard pretty high for ballheads. However, I recently purchased a traveler style tripod for its light weight and compactness, and so I needed a smaller and lighter ballhead to complete the package. After reading reviews of many different ballheads, it was clear that Photo Clam heads are very well reviewed and they come at great prices.Overall, the 38NS is very well built. In terms of its materials and sturdiness, it's similar, but not at the level of the Markins. The main friction knob sticks a bit when you want to loosen it, but it's not at all a deal breaker. It's simply not as smooth as the Markins. Also, the ballhead is very smooth, but there is some stiffness when you position the stem of the ballhead in the drop notch. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn't have the uniform smoothness of the Markins head. The clamp itself works very well, so does the panning knob. The best thing about the unit is that it's pretty small. I use it with a Feisol 3441t, and I can reverse the legs and have the ballhead fit in between. Overall, I'd recommend this ballhead. I may have mentioned a few minor flaws, but they were not things that get in the way when I actually use the ballhead out in the field. This is a great ballhead at a very reasonable price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazed how good I bought this to use on the Leica tabletop tripod as I needed something much smaller than my normal set-up. I am utterly astonished at how incredibly stable this is, could not budge it if I tried, even supports the Big Tammy, Tamron 150-600mm, also very easy to use. Had I known it was this good I could have saved a lot and not bought my other ball head for my full size tripod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best tripod ball head I've ever had The Photo Clam Pro 38NS ball head is an exceptional piece of photo equipment. The quality is more than premium, much better than Gitzo and Manfrotto ball heads. I was very surprised when I received it. I felt the quality from the second I held it.
