The F12 512 - 572 MHz PTX2040 Wireless Transmitter for 2040 Range from Audio Ltd. is a wireless transmitter designed to turn a dynamic or condenser XLR-plug microphone into a wireless handheld microphone. The PTX plug-on transmitter is compatible with other Range 2040 products and broadcasts on a range of 512 to 572 MHz. It features a balanced 3-pin XLR input connector with a locking screw collar for professional dynamic and condenser microphones. The transmitter is ergonomically designed with a "trilobular" shape to look good on camera, and is lightweight at 5 oz.

The plug-on transmitter features an antenna which is built into its robust aluminum body, and an Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) display. The display is readable from a distance and in a variety of light conditions. It can be switched off while the transmitter is in use (as can the power LED), and custom configured to read either from the left or from the right. The on/off button can be configured to function as an instant, one-touch mute button.

All parameters are set by the scrolling navigation switch on the bottom of the unit. The transmitter provides switchable +48V phantom-power for condenser microphones. Powered by two 1.5V AA type batteries, the PTX2040 runs for about five hours (depending on battery type) when phantom-powering a condenser microphone, or up to nine hours when used with a dynamic microphone. Batteries are inserted into a compartment via a secure, recessed and latched cover.
