The EVO 16 Bay Base Media Server with 12TB Installed from Studio Network Solutions is a network protected SAN and NAS shared media storage server that is designed to be easily expandable as your needs grow. It is designed for video and audio editing and other DCC (digital content creation) applications with high-bandwidth demands where multiple users need access to the same content at once. EVO includes in-the-box support for features like project sharing and bin sharing. It combines a high-performance storage array with a wide range of upgradeable connectivity options, including 10Gb/s Ethernet and 8Gb/s Fibre Channel. EVO can be a SAN, a NAS, or both at the same time and is purpose-built for digital media workflows and demanding use with leading professional applications such as Avid Media Composer, Apple Final Cut Pro, and Adobe Premiere Pro.

This version of the EVO base features 12 TB RAID storage (4 x 3TB) installed, which can be configured in RAID 0, 1, 4, 5, 6, and 10. Four 1Gb/s Ethernet ports are pre-installed for connection to your network and the server will support iSCSI as well as SAN and NAS protocols. Expansion hardware allows you to upgrade to faster network interfaces, and addition enterprise drives may be installed to increase storage capacity.

Workflow Tools

    Project and Bin Sharing
Use the native Project and Bin sharing functions of Avid, and take advantage of project sharing for Adobe Premiere Pro, plus file sharing for Pro Tools. In addition, EVO unlocks the sharing capabilities of Media Composer; with several editors working on the same Avid project, teams can easily collaborate by using shared Bins, exchanging access to Media and Sequences directly within Media Composer

    File and Volume Sharing
Some file types and workflows simply work better in a file sharing environment, while others prefer the more dedicated approach of volume sharing -- the EVO addresses both. It allows you to use file sharing, volume sharing, or a combination of the two -- providing multi-user write workspaces for sharing projects and bins, in addition to high performance SAN volumes for multi-cam and uncompressed workflows

    ShareBrowser Desktop Client
ShareBrowser is a unified file/project/asset management interface for OS X and Windows. It is designed not only improves visibility and access to your team's storage systems, it enables automatic project locking and sharing. It allows you to search across all EVO storage as well as local, offline, and other network disks. File metadata can be instantly indexed to the database designed to help users more easily find, preview, and share media assets and projects. ShareBrowser also gives you the capability to securely ingest and migrate data using built-in verification tools

    Performance

      I/O Profiles
EVO is designed and built for digital artists who use applications like Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro and Pro Tools. These apps can have extraordinary I/O requirements, so EVO is tuned to give them exactly what they want, right out of the box. However, in the event you need more precise tuning, you can create your own "I/O Profiles" and assign one to any volume on-the-fly

      Caching
Advanced caching algorithms are designed to make EVO capable of handling more video streams per array than most shared storage systems. This means you can do more work with a fewer number of disks, which results in a less expensive, more reliable, energy conscious storage solution

      Multipathing
A popular method of increasing transfer speed is to use more than one data pipe per computer. With expandable connectivity options, EVO offers several ways to take multiple physical connections -- Fibre Channel or Ethernet paths -- and combine them homogeneously for higher SAN throughput

      Preset for Video Apps
EVO is configured with its defaults preset for use with professional video editing applications. These presets are designed to give good performance with other applications too, but if you're primarily using audio applications like Pro Tools or Logic Pro with very high track counts, simply change the EVO's I/O profile from Video to Audio for maximum performance

      Expandability

EVO Expansion Units allow you to increase storage capacity as well as upgrade connectivity:

        Ethernet Ports
Up to twenty Gigabit (1Gb/s) Ethernet ports are available can be installed in one system. You can also choose to add 10Gb/e Ethernet ports for maximum bandwidth over iSCSI and NAS

        Fibre Channel Ports
The EVO accommodates up to twelve direct-attach Fibre Channel ports in each base unit. If you need more Fibre Channel ports you can also connect a switch to any available port

        Enterprise Class Drives
You can start with as few as four disks, then add up to a total of 16 in the base unit. Expansion units are also available, bringing the total number of disks per managed system to 64. As you add capacity, you can also increase the system's overall capability. An unlimited number of base/expansion nodes can be integrated into a facility

        Up to 20 Direct-Attached Users
Up to twenty users (workstations, notebooks, servers) can be direct-attached through EVO's Ethernet and Fibre Channel ports. If you need to support more users, any available Fibre Channel or Ethernet port can be connected to a switch. And with EVO, there's no per-seat software licensing costs for SANmp and globalSAN

        Compatibility

          Media Applications
EVO is designed and built for professional media editing and post-production applications like Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, Premiere Pro, Smoke, Scratch, and Pro Tools. Although, it can be used with any application, it is designed in particular to handle the intense demands of video and audio editing, in real-time, by many concurrent users

          SAN Sharing and File Systems
The fastest and easiest way to share your SAN volumes is to use the SANmp SAN sharing software included with EVO. But if you're already using something else, such as the Xsan/StorNext file system or metaSAN, you can use that instead of SANmp if you prefer

          HBAs, Initiators, & Ethernet NICs
Fibre Channel workstations can connect to EVO using an HBA from Apple, QLogic, or ATTO. iSCSI users can connect to EVO using any 1Gb/s Ethernet or optical 10Gb/s Ethernet adapter and the included globalSAN iSCSI initiator for Mac OS X or the Microsoft iSCSI initiator. NAS users can connect to EVO using any 1Gb/s Ethernet or 10Gb/s Ethernet

          Operating Systems
EVO supports Mac OS X and Windows. It can also be used with other operating systems, like Linux or Solaris. In fact, any operating system that supports iSCSI, Fibre Channel, NFS, SFTP, SMB, or AFP can be used

          Administration

            Web-based Admin Tools
Much attention is given to EVO's user interface aiming to make it both attractive and intuitive -- with features ranging from the very basic to the very advanced. And since it's web-based, it can be administered from just about anywhere

            UPS Monitoring
With EVO connected to an optional APC Uninterruptible Power Supply you'll be able to configure and monitor the UPS directly through EVO's web interface. If there's a power problem detected, EVO can notify you by email and even power itself off if necessary

            Email/SNMP Remote Monitoring
Select which events are important and monitor them via SNMP, or tell EVO to send an email or text message if it detects something happening

            Drive Replacement
Only enterprise-class, RAID-edition SATA disks are used in EVO. However, disks fail; it's an unfortunate reality. EVO can send an email to let you know when this happens. You can then do a hot swap or a cold swap to replace it with a new one. To help with the installation, step-by-step instructions are displayed in the web interface

            Batch RAID Creation
Use the Queue Manager utility to get your RAID settings defined just as you want them; with options for RAID 0, 1, 4, 5, 6, or 10. Once configured, each new volume comes online almost instantly, and you can have EVO send you an email to let you know when it's finished processing your queue

            Software Upgrades
Each new version of the EVO OS has brought many useful improvements and new features. With most other storage systems, once you own that box its capabilities aren't going to change much, except for the occasional firmware upgrade. With EVO, you have an investment in an efficient and flexible storage server that can potentially improve its tool set and usefulness over time, rather than having a feature-locked box
