Mercury Elite Pro Mini Hard Drive Enclosure is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Quality This is a really high quality product. The SSD fits snugly into an interior panel inside the aluminum box...screws are inserted from the bottom of the interior panel into the SSD to secure it to the box's exterior...you then slide the panel into the aluminum box and replace the screws in the rear of the box back into their threads. That's as easy as it gets...total time is 5 minutes, at the most. And, just like that, you have yourself a very strong external, portable SSD drive. I hook it up via USB 3.0, and it runs just as fast as my internal SSD does. It's not an inexpensive enclosure, but you get what you pay for. This thing will easily survive a drop or getting banged around a bit. And, since its an SSD, its whisper quiet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Enclosure, bad cable My OWC Mercury Elite Pro Mini Enclosure is a nice, well-built unit. However I had a huge problem in connecting it via USB 3.0 to my Mac Mini and after a lot of help from OWC we found that the unit came with a faulty USB 3 cable. Fortunately I had a spare cable and that solved the problem. I have found that the best way to use it is to first connect the cable to the running computer while the ON/OFF switch is in the OFF position and once the cable is properly connected switch the unit ON using the ON/OFF switch. To remove it from the computer first use the Finder (if on a Mac) to eject the drive then switch the drive to the OFF position and finally disconnect the cable from the computer. That procedure works fine with me but other methods might be fine also. So far, after two days, I'm very happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best quality enclosure of this type I have found. My OWC Mercury Elite Pro Mini Enclosure is serving as a Time Maching backup drive using a 1TB Crucial MX200 SSD and is connected via FireWire 800. The only hitch I encountered was during setup. I was unable to format the SSD after it was mounted using OSX Disk Utility via FireWire. Using Disk Utility via USB, it formatted with no issues. I am not sure if this is an enclosure specific issue or a general Mac/FireWire issue. Howver, after USB formatting, I switched back to FireWire and the enclosure has performed flawlessly. The chipset is of high quality yielding rated speeds. Overall, the finest quality aluminum enclosure of its type I have encountered. It may cost a bit more, but to me it was worth every penny. As a side note, it fits on and blends well with my 27 iMac stand...actually looks like it was made for it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice enclosure, well built All aluminum, great performer. I have two of these and love them. Great heat dissipation. It is heavy, however, so I don't recommend it if you plan to travel a lot with an external enclosure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I liked it so much I bought a second! I initially bought the Crucial MX200 1TB to replace a failed conventional early 2009 27 3 1/2 iMac drive. The performance increase is nothing short of phenomenal! (This is also one of the few SSD drives that is compatible with the Early 2009 iMac) It has performed flawlessly and boots into OS X or Windows 7 in 20 seconds flat on this machine. The only hitch I encountered was the lack of a temperature sensor during installation. The Mac treats the open circuit as an overtemp and runs the HD Cooling fan at high speed regardless of temperature. However, Crucial provides a link to a free software fix (www.hddfancontrol.com) and the software works great. I actually liked this SSD so much, I bought a second one to use as a RAID drive in an OWC Mercury Elite Pro Mini Hard Drive Enclosure. I no longer need the RAID capability, so my second SSD now serves as a Time Machine backup drive using FireWire 800 in the same enclosure. Could not be happier with this drive in any of the above applications.
