    Voigtlander BD272A Reviews

VM-E Close Focus Adapter for VM-Mount Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 45.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as expected Leica M mount lenses have usually have a minimum focus distance between .7-1.0 meters. With the addition of this adapter it becomes possible to focus closer. When using it with the 75mm f1.8 Voigtlander and a Sony A7II it allows for tight head shots, but consider 1:1 macro out of the question. The build seems solid and the connection from the camera body to the adapter as well as the adapter to the lens is firm, but not too tight. I am rating this four stars for the performance at the relatively high price point. I would've like the ability to focus slightly closer, but I still highly recommend the product if using M-mount lenses with your Sony E-mount camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Game changer I use the Voigtlander adapter to pair a Leica Summilux 35mm to a Sony A7R. The Matabones adapter I used still works just fine, but the long minimum focus distance can be annoying, especially when going for the shallow depth-of-field look on close-ups. This adapter is solid and delivers, opening a new world of possibilities for Leica glass on full frame Sony cameras. It single-handedly gives new charm to a Leica Noctilux, by halving its minimum focus distance of 3.3'. The only downside is the price, but when pairing Leica M or Zeiss ZM, the extra $ is not so much of an issue. Highly recommended

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Macro-like rangefinder lenses! When I heard about this close focus adaptor for M-mount lenses I was immediately intrigued, as the lenses themselves aren't typically designed for this. Over the past two years, I've been pretty happy with a Novoflex to pair a 35mm Summicron and a 90mm Tele-Elmarit to a NEX-7, but have always wanted closer focus for macro-like images. This adaptor delivers, and cuts the minimum focus distance by about half. The design isn't quite as clean as the Novoflex (specifically the lens release mechanism and the little switch to lock it in 'normal' mode), and it weighs quite a bit more, but for the additional functionality I'm willing to take the hit. Impressive.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It Vignettes with 90 and 135mm The product is very nicely made. However, the Close Focusing mechanism intrudes such that it is less than a full frame opening. 50mm and shorter is okay. But my F4 135 Elmar and my F2 90mm Summicron have a small but hard vignette in the corners. I also have the Novoflex adapter. It does not have this problem. While the Close Focusing feature is very handy for my 28mm and 35mm lenses, I wouldn't have spent this much money if I'd know that it doesn't fully work with the longer lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is THE adapter to have! I got the standard VM-E adapter first. After a while, I found the .7m min-focus a little limiting, so I got the VM-E Close-Focus adapter. What a difference! Both are well-made, of course, but this adapter adds a whole new dimension of usefulness to VM lenses adapted to E-mount.I've attached two sample photos. Both are shot with a VM 35mm Nokton Classic at f/2.8 on an NEX-6. The first shows the native minimum focus, which is about 27 inches. The second shows the minimum focus with the adapter, which is just slightly under 8.5 inches. If you intend to shoot M-mount lenses on E-mount cameras, this is the adapter you should have. It's not inexpensive, but it's worth every cent. Here's a tip: use the camera's focus peaking function ALWAYS and for closer subjects (i.e., headshots of people, etc) bring the lens' focus in to about 1.2m and use the adapter's focusing ring to fine-tune focus from there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best I've used After using the Novoflex for a while I did not find it all that! especially considering the price. In fact I found a much cheaper one that had a much better snug fit.But the Voigtlander is in a totally different class, the build quality is exceptional, the fit on the camera (A7R) and on the lens is very snug, but not tight, just right. Infinity is where it's supposed to be (Novoflex adapters seems all to go beyond, as is the case with my NEX/OM), and as an extra bonus I can focus my lenses closer. I also found the weight difference negligibleThe price is rather steep, but compared to the Novoflex much better value, this one actually has moving mechanical parts inside. If your choice is between the two, I know which one I prefer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it, couldn't be happier I am completely happy with this adapter, it allows me to focus so much closer with my M Mount lenses. It more than halves the minimum focus distance. One little bit about how the adapter works. There's a metal red tab that you have to bring forward to unlock the close focus ring. Make sure to bring the lens focus ring to the minimum distance before turning the ring on the adapter. Not doing so will typically result in nothing in focus. Same when going back to focusing further out, bring the focus ring back, push the tab in and then you can focus via the lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mount M-lens on Sony a7R I have a number of M Lecia range finder lens (Summicron, Zeiss ZM's) that I want to mount on the full frame Sony. Since there are no direct range finder macro lenses, this close focus adaptor will half the minimum focus distance (extension tube). Not exactly a true macro, but.... Actually a 100mm+ lens would be better suited for macro rather my 50, 35 and 25. This adaptor mounted suggly on the lenses and the a7r body. The extended focus worked well but I think if the lever to unlock extended focus is over used it can be a problem. So far so good.

Does this adapter have an optical element inside?
    Asked by: Stephen T.
No. It allows for some minor movement of the attached lens away from the body. While it isn't a macro adapter, if you're familiar with using a bellows for macro photography you'll understand the principle.

Is this just for close up photography or can you use this also for general, will the lens go to inf.?
    Asked by: Anonymous
The Voigtlander VM-E Close Focus Adapter for VM-Mount Lens to Sony E-Mount Cameras can be used for general photography as well as close up photography. This adapter will shorten the minimum focusing distance of the lens, and will also allow focus to infinity.

if compare this VM-E adapter with Metabones adapter which one is best for Sony A7rII. (I am not sure that Metabones has same close focus feature or not?)
    Asked by: Samart M.
I am not familiar with the Metabones adapter. However, I can say that the Voigtlander is superbly constructed and connects perfectly with my Sony cameras. I have several Voigtlander adapters for different lens lines, and all are well worth the slightly higher price.

Does this adapter allow you adjust the position of the infinity lock so that your lenses infinity stops are accurate when the adapter is locked?
    Asked by: Nate Weatherly
Yes, you can unlock the infinity lock and move it to where you need it. The only thing I've noticed is you can't relook it in a different position so even though it's difficult to move it might not be guaranteed. The only way you can relock it is if you place it in the original position. If it helps, I've had the 40mm Voigtlander for over a week and it is my new go-to lens/adapter. Cheers!

    How close can it focus?
    Asked by: Anuar H.
The answer is lens-specific. In general, it cuts down the minimum focusing distance by about 45-50%. So you can take tighter head shots for portraits with one of the 50mm M lenses, for instance. The background rendering from some of the bokeh lenses like a 50 Noctilux or Summilux gets even softer with reduced camera-to-subject distance.

Does ir work with the Leica 35mm, the Leica 50mm, Leica 28mm Summicron M for a Sony a7rii? Thanks!
    Asked by: karin i.
This will adapt any Leica M-mount lens to any Sony E-mount camera. I use it with a Leica 35mm and 90mm on a Sony NEX-7. It should do fine for the lenses and body you listed.Note that this adaptor is quite heavy due to the close-focus mechanism - if you don't need this, Novoflex makes an excellent adaptor that is quite a bit more compact and offers the same functionality minus the close-focus capability.

I plan to use this adapter to achieve near to far sharp focus throughout the entire scene. When the close-up feature is activated, will it allow the lens to be focused at infinity?
    Asked by: Dennis F.
Hi Dennis, the way the adapter works is by lengthening the distance between the optical center of the lens and the focal plane, so once you start rotating the close focus ring on the adapter you will start losing focus at infinity and longer distances. most M mount lenses have close focus at .7m/2.2ft, once your lens is set to minimum focus and you wish to focus closer, you then unlock the close focus adapter and use the secondary focus ring to achieve focus at up to .35m/1.1ft but you will lose the ability to focus at longer distances. If you wish to achieve near to far focus throughout the frame, the way to achieve this is by stopping the lens down to f16 and use the depth of field guides and hyper focal distance to achieve maximum depth of field.the real use of this adapter is allowing you to focus closer than the intended minimum focus the lens was designed to achieve.
