The A1001 Network Door Controller from Axis Communications gives you a stand-alone digital access control system that can be accessed from anywhere in the world with an internet connection, while offering easy integration with multiple A1001 units, alarm/fire panels, or IP surveillance systems. It uses an open, non-proprietary platform to be compatible with a wide range of hardware and software from many manufacturers. This open platform lets you choose the best products for the location and application, without the constraint of being dependent on a single manufacturer for all of the hardware and software.

With Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) compatibility, only a single wire is required for installation, reducing material and installation costs. Readers, locks, relays and request-to-exit (REX) appliances are wired directly to the A1001 for data and power, further reducing the need for long wire pulls to a control panel, and additional power supplies. The fully configurable system features multiple alarm triggers and actions that allow you to tailor the performance of the system to your needs. Access is granted or denied at a group level, and with a fully programmable access schedule you can precisely control when users can access a door.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Monthly Fees I love this product. I own a bunch of properties and for buildings that I own entirely, I have installed ZWave cylinder locks. That said, one of my condo buildings I only own 50% of the building and I couldn’t find a Z-Wave Mortise Lock. Since this building already had two electric strikes, I thought I would add an access control system and Axis A1001 met all of my requirements. I installed the A1001 along with the Axis Keypad and I now can setup custom pin codes for everyone I need to grant access to from my computer or remotely unlock anytime. I love the amount of control I have and the proximity key card feature is really cool, even though I only have it setup for myself. Once installed, the web-based built in software is really easy to use and create custom schedules for various people and the inclusion of DDNS makes remote access really easy. The only thing that could be improved is that you can’t fully add users from your iPhone or iPad. While you can add the user from an Apple device, you can’t activate the user because you need to drag the new user to the appropriate access schedule and Apple does not support drag and drop on the Axis web interface. That said, you can still remotely unlock and lock the door from your Apple device and view access logs and delete users. I looked at a number of various access control solutions and Axis was the only one that had no monthly fees and no telephone service required, which was important because I’m tired of paying monthly fees!! I highly recommend this controller along with the Axis keypad and if Axis ever creates an iPhone app to add new users, I would rate this 6 stars!!
