Nikon L30 overview

  • 1Description

The red COOLPIX L30 Digital Camera from Nikon is a compact point-and-shoot camera that features a 20.1 MP 1/2.3" CCD image sensor. A Nikkor 5x optical zoom lens covers a 35mm equivalent focal length of 26-130mm, making the lens suitable for wide-angle photos as well as telephoto zoom lengths, covering most situations. Electronic Vibration Reduction helps to maintain image sharpness when working in low-light conditions or at the longer end of the zoom range. In addition to high resolution still images, you can also record HD 720p video, which can be easily accessed via the dedicated movie button. Image review, composition, and menu navigation are done via the 3.0" 230k-dot LCD monitor.

The COOLPIX L30 makes shooting high quality images easy by offering 19 scene modes, as well as an Easy Auto Mode. This allows you to focus on composing your photograph, rather than worrying about the settings. The camera is powered by two AA batteries.

20.1MP Image Sensor and HD 720p Video
The 20.1 megapixel 1/2.3" CCD sensor is capable of recording high resolution imagery that is suitable for both online sharing as well as printing. Additionally, the sensor lends itself to producing HD 720p video at 30 fps. Movie recording is accessible via a dedicated movie button.
Nikkor 5x Optical Zoom Lens and Electronic Vibration Reduction
The integration of a Nikkor lens builds on the quality offered by the imaging sensor. The 5x optical zoom provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 26-130mm, making this camera suitable for capturing almost any type of scene with ease. This lens benefits from the inclusion of electronic Vibration Reduction for stills and videos, which works to reduce the appearance of camera shake and blur that can become increasingly notable when shooting in low-light conditions or at the telephoto end of the zoom range. Additionally, a Motion Detection feature makes necessary changes to settings when shooting still images of moving objects.
Scene Modes and Easy Auto Mode
The L30 is specifically designed to allow you to shoot with ease, and concentrate on taking the photo or video, rather than on changing your camera settings. Easy Auto Mode will automatically control all camera settings for true point-and-shoot functionality. For a more specialized approach, you can choose from one of 19 different Scene Modes, including Beach, Snow, Night Portrait, Sunset, among others, to optimize certain camera settings that best suit the type of scene you are photographing.
In Camera Image Editing
There are 7 different built-in editing tools to give you extra creative control right from your camera:
  • D-Lighting restores shadow and highlight detail
  • Quick Retouch adds a balance of contrast and saturation to your image
  • Small Picture saves a small resized photo
  • Filter Effects add creative effects to your images
  • Glamour Retouch
  • Red-Eye Reduction
  • Crop
  • Smart Portrait System
With the Smart Portrait System activated, there are a number of features that help you get the best shots. Face Priority AF finds and focuses on faces, and Skin Softening applies a soft focus effect. The camera can also be set to take a photo as soon as someone smiles.

    Nikon L30 reviews

COOLPIX L30 Digital Camera (Red) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Choice for Inexpensive First Camera I purchased 2 for my young grandsons as Christmas gifts, chiefly because the controls were clearly separated and more intuitive than some competitors: wide angle/tele up around the shutter button vs on the crowded back, discard a separate button vs one of quad that could result in undesired erasure. Auto focus seemed quick and picture quality quite good. The menu provides various scene modes and most of the customization found on more expensive cameras. Power is via 2 readily available AA batteries. While it would not be my first choice for an enthusiast's backup or travel camera, it offers a lot for the beginner at a surprisingly low price from B&H.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to get started using this camera... Easy to start using this camera but there are LOTS of features to learn. It isn't a one button / one function type of camera. Be sure to go ahead and order the usb transfer cable for your computer since it's a Nikon proprietary item (not generic). I like using my iPhoto rather than Nikon's ViewNX2 software. That's just my personal preference. This camera has all the latest bells & whistles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camera, but... Everything about this camera is Great. #1 it is a NIKON, but without a viewfinder the monitor gets washed out by the sun. It is feature rich and put it in my camera bag along side my other (3) NIKONS. A L830, D3100 and D520. The L830 is a bridge camera and the Ds are true DSLRs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality at low cost So far, this camera is proving to be a good little work horse of a backup camera, just as it's predecessor, the L18. Small and inexpensive, yet produces quick, quality images with a longer telephoto and higher pixel count than many more expensive cameras.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great 4 wheeling camera!!! I use it on 4 wheeling trips and taking pictures on the move in my JK of the trail and mountain trails in Colorado. Great inexpensive camera that takes great pics. Would be nice to have an option on the movie option to start and stop video clips.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very handy, easy to use and good camera. It is good for those who do not want carry bulky camera'w with them but still want good pictures. Excellent picture quality. Only issue is after taking a picture, can only be taken after few seconds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from COOLPIX L30 is a COOL Camera The Nikon COOLPIX L30 takes great pictures and is really light weight so it's easy to use. I bought this as a Christmas gift for my wife and she really loves it. Plus since B&H Photo offered this camera at a GREAT price I did not have to pay a premium price to get it. Thanks B&H Photo!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Slow performance The shutter speed and save speed on this camera is very slow. Also, in lower light the face recognition did not work as well as the focus was sub standard.
