One of the most flexible single focal lengths available, the AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G ED from Nikon is a compact prime wide-angle well-suited for everyday shooting. Its bright f/1.8 maximum aperture excels in a variety of lighting conditions and also helps to maintain a relatively compact, lightweight design for walk-around use. The optical design employs both aspherical and extra-low dispersion elements to control both spherical and chromatic aberrations for high sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy. A Super Integrated Coating has also been applied to limit flare and ghosting for improved contrast. Additionally, benefitting the optical assets, a Silent Wave Motor affords fast and precise autofocus performance, along with full-time manual focus override, to benefit both stills and video applications.

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G ED Reviews
All around lens for any occasion.
Overall this lens exceeded my expectations. My assessments are all done on a focus calibrated D810. Wide open contrast is above average and sharpness is high. It's one of those lenses where you don't need to tweak much in editing to get nice looking images. Focus is very fast and accurate. Bokeh is a little nervous at further distances, if your priority is bokeh at 35mm then you have expensive tastes and should check out the f/1.4 version. This is a reasonably priced sharp all-around lens to take anywhere.
Low light gem
I love shooting at night and doing Astro. Sure it's not the f/1.4 but this thing is plenty fast with a steady hand at twilight. Beautifully sharp low light images. It's also nice to not have a brick on my camera for once as I'm used to carrying around my 24-70 f/2.8. Awesome lens on my D850!
Good lens however the quality is a little lacking
So this is a great fast lens that takes great photos. However, the tolerances on the focus ring are poor. This results in a wobble that make noice when moving the lens around and using the focus ring. It dose not affect the images taken with the lens it just makes it feel cheap.
Works great on my D700 and my D780.
A really nice lens.
I am very impressed with this lens. Its sharpness is excellent and gives up nothing to my pro lenses at f/5.6. It is small and light--a lens I can walk around with all day. I got it because I have several SLR cameras that I will shoot until they die, but it would make no sense for a Z-series camera owner.
Nikon 35mm amazing!
I have a DX 35mm lens but recently upgraded and also bought this FX lens and I am glad I did. I mainly shoot concerts and this is amazing for shows with being right up front and capture the performers. This lens is incredible and I would recommend to anyone.
Great prime lens
I love the sharpness and the dof of this lens. I was looking for something a bit wider than the 50mm and this is the ticket. Much lighter than my 24-70mm which has its purpose. I'm definitely going to use my prime lens for more shoots in the future. Not a lot of bokeh but I use it more for environmental shoots. Only downside is it's plastic and feels cheap , but light on the hands. Still performs extremely well! I pair it with my D850.
Great for walking around with one lens on the camera
It's a great focal length for street photography and environmental portraits without distortion; the f/1.8 speed is good in low-light conditions; and the lens seems to focus quickly and accurately. It's my new favorite for when I want to keep things simple, with one lens on the camera.
