Spanning wide-angle to telephoto, the Sigma SA-mount Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM is a Contemporary-series all-in-one zoom covering an impressively versatile range while maintaining an overall compact and lightweight profile. The optical design utilizes Four SLD and three aspherical elements to greatly reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations throughout the zoom range and a Super Multi-Layer Coating also helps to control lens flare and ghosting for high contrast and color accuracy. Additionally, this lens is also adept at close-up shooting with a 1:3 maximum magnification and 1.3' minimum focusing distance.

Complementing the optical design, this lens also incorporates a Hyper Sonic Motor, which affords fast and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus control. An Optical Stabilizer also benefits creating sharp imagery by minimizing the appearance of camera shake. Additionally, a rounded seven-blade diaphragm is featured, which contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

As part of the Contemporary line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve a balance between convenience and performance, and meshes a compact, lightweight build and versatile handling with notable optical attributes.
All-in-one zoom is designed for APS-C-format Sigma SA-mount cameras and provides a 27-300mm equivalent focal length range.
Four Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements are featured in the optical design and help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.
Three aspherical elements are used to help limit distortion and spherical aberrations and also contribute to greater overall sharpness and accurate rendering.
A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.
Ideal for close-up shooting, this lens offers a 1:3 maximum magnification along with a minimum focusing distance of 1.3' to suit working with nearby subjects.
Integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), along with a rear focus system, realizes quick and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.
Optical Stabilizer system minimizes the appearance of camera shake to benefit making sharper imagery when shooting handheld.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
Constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations. Additionally, a brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity.
Zoom lock switch helps to prevent accidental and unwanted zoom adjustment.
This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

A great replacement for kit lenses but noisy

I previously used the Canon kit lenses 18 - 55 mm and 55 - 250 mm. I didn't want to carry two lenses so I decided to pick up this Sigma as a replacement. While I lost 50 mm at the top side of the range, the Sigma 18 - 200 mm lens makes up for it when I use the Canon 90D with the higher MP count over the SL1. The quality of image difference between the kit lenses and this one is remarkable. The IS on the lens is significant. Between the camera and lens IS you can get clear photos even in low light, The only thing that is a downside is that the auto focus is really noisy when filming video. The camera can pick up all of the servo noise. In manual focus there isn't any issue. Lock off your shot and you should be fine.

I needed a fairly compact outfit to photograph on road construction projects. I put this on a Nikon D7200 and I am quite well pleased with the result. Most of the time I shoot a Nikon D850 with a 70-200 f2.8 which weighs a ton compared to this combination. While not quite up there with my high-end Nikon lenses, the lens is very responsive and gives me very good quality for the work I am doing. The images are sharp, the focus is crisp. I'm usually stopped down in the middle range and the photographs appear to be very clear edge to edge. It is good value for a lens that give me great range for many difficult situations. I recommend it.

The wide angle and 200mm zoom make for a all in one lens for travel in good light, I got this lens for a intern for the newspaper and it does everything they need to shoot quality pictures ie parades, fairs, town festivals etc... it does out preform the canon 24-105 f4 L series lens at well under l less then half the cost again the wide angle to 200mm zoom gives it more versatility. Great lens! Great picture quality! I will be getting one to keep in my vehicle full time because of its versatility... sigma did good with this lens!!

I've only taken a couple dozen pictures so far, but like what I see. I got the lens for its zoom range but have been also pleasantly surprised by its macro capability. Lens feels like high quality. My only misgiving, if it can be called that, is having to remember to turn off the stabilization when not shooting so as to save camera battery. I wonder if a time out feature could have been programmed into the function.

Slow AF, poor design for Manual Focus

This is the fourth iteration of this 18-200mm lens by Sigma since the first reviews in 2005 (?). In the intervening years Sigma has made many improvements and added FOUR super low dispersion glass and THREE aspherical elements along with macro capabilities to this updated version that ultimately make a discernible difference in terms of sharpness, chromatic aberrations and distortion. I could not see any CA. Sharpness was high at center and at the edges shooting wide open at 200mm, and the Macro focus bolstered by the Optical Stabilization of this lens is impressive to say the least. Is it a perfect lens? No. While it is impressive in terms of sharpness and color rendition the image stabilization (OS) in the lens is nowhere near the IBIS (in-body-image-stabilization) of an Olympus E-M1. To make the most it it requires a body with stabilization as well to work in tandem. I used it on a Sigma SD Quattro that has no IBIS, and while the OS in the lens is a big help you will not get 4 stops of stabilization (or more) that is now typical with so many other systems where lens OS is aided by IBIS. Beautiful, very sharp, image stabilized, and well balanced, the Sigma 18-200mm had a couple of deficiencies that made it completely unusable for wildlife shooting, which was my intended use. Its shortcomings: very slow AF, and in combination with the Sigma SD Quattro it added up to nearly a 2.5 second delay from AF acquisition to actual capture. The narrow AF/manual focus ring at the snout of the lens actually rotates under your fingers during AF travel, IN AF MODE, which means you have to adjust your grip on the camera to avoid disrupting its auto-focus function. Manual focus is difficult and awkward due to the short Macro-to-infinity travel distance of the ring. Macro to infinity ring movement is just One-and-one quarter inches (8cm) in length. Another issue is the bokeh, the out of focus areas in the background lack smoothness, and are very busy and distracting, especially in the highlights. Overall the lens is well built, and compact. Although it is somewhat light in terms of weight, one can assume a good deal of plastics rather than metal (or brass) has been used, but this seems to be standard in terms of production costs and savings. Image quality was excellent. If AF had been very fast I would been temped to keep it because of its excellent image quality.

While the lens works on a Nikon F (full frame) series camera it is optimized for APS-C (Nikon DX) lenses. Sigma DG lenses are designed for Nikon full frame cameras (Nikon D750). You are much better off looking for a DG series lens for your camera.
