Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 overview

  • 1Description

The 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM Lens For Canon Digital Cameras from Sigma is an all-in-one lens covering an 11x zoom from wide-angle to telephoto, with a 35mm equivalent focal length of 29-320mm. An optical stabilizer (OS) system is built into the lens, which reduces the appearance of camera shake. This can be especially helpful when shooting at long focal lengths or up-close macro shots. OS also allows you to use slightly longer shutter speeds, making it possible to shoot hand-held in low-light conditions. The built-in Hyper Sonic Motor delivers quick and quiet autofocus.

The 18-200mm's optical design incorporates double-sided aspherical lenses which enable this extended super-zoom lens to be housed in a compact and lightweight construction. Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass, correct chromatic aberrations, and Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting, to provide sharp, high contrast images even in backlit conditions.

Macro Capability
With a minimum focusing distance of 15.4" (39 cm) and a magnification ratio of 1:3, the lens also acts as a macro lens. The maximum magnification for each focal length is indicated on the lens barrel. The product name on the front of the lens has been engraved, rather than painted, so that when shooting reflective objects up close, the letters will not show up in the image.
Thermally Stable Composite
TSC has the same level of thermal shrinkage as aluminum, with little elasticity, especially in temperature changes. This gives the lens high affinity to metal parts, and results in slimmer mechanical parts.
7 Blade-Rounded Diaphragm
The diaphragm creates aesthetically pleasing bokeh, or out of focus areas in images.
Brass Bayonet Mount
The bayonet mount on this lens is made from brass, which is highly accurate and durable, making this lens ideal for long-term use.
USB Dock
Compatible with the Sigma USB Dock, which can update the lens firmware and adjust parameters such as focus.

    Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 reviews

18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM Lens For Canon Digital Cameras is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good lens. I bought this lens to replace the standard lens that came with my Canon EOS T4i. It will be going with me on a trip soon where having a range of zoom will be very helpful. I only want to take one lens with me so, this will be it. I have already tried it out on hikes and sunsets - appears to be a very good lens although it is significantly heavier than the one I'm replacing with it. I have not noticed any abnormalities in picture quality yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice Lens I recently got the Sigma 18-200 f3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM C lens for my Canon 1100D. This is the first third party lens I've bought. Took over 200 photos the morning after receiving it (only stopped taking photos because I had to go to work) and am very happy with the results. I'm not a pro by any means, but this lens is exactly what I expected. The lens hood fell off a couple of times before I realized it needs that little bit of effort to make it click into place, and zooming feels very firm (neither of those are complaints, just observations). The lens hood doesn't spin when focusing or zooming, which is good. The dust cover snaps into place easily and stays put. Bokeh is great! Also happy with the speed of delivery from B&H; ordered it on Sunday and got it Wednesday afternoon. Attaching two photos to this review turned out to be a challenge, though. I'm looking forward to learning what this lens is capable of.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value Just purchased this lens (2/10/2015) for my D7000. I'm going to Mexico in May for vacation and wanted a good all around walk about lens to replace my kit 18-55 and 55-200MM and basically lighten my bag a bit. After playing with it just taking a few shots in house I like it. It focuses fast in strong light and relatively fast in lower light situations. The working controls seem fairly stiff, as I imagine this lens was tightened up a bit to eliminate the lens creep I was hearing about (especially for the Nikon lens). The one thing I didn't like is it seems fairly heavy, which is probably a construction/durability blessing, but a bit of a curse when carrying it around your neck for hours. I'll amend this review upon my return from Mexico in the spring. Thank you B&H for your exquisitely fast and free shipping!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great All-Rounder for the Price Wanted a decent, all-rounder-type lens for my Canon 1100D / Rebel T3i with wider range to replace my 18-55mm kit lens & this one certainly hasn't dissapointed (first lens purchase too.) In decent light, it's pretty sharp and good rendition of colour too, from what I can tell. Really enjoying the decent zoom range I get - very handy when I shot some wildlife recently - and I like the slightly 'wide-angle-ish' look I get at the widest end (18mm) which I don't think I had with the kit lens. Also like the ability to lock the zoom ring. In low-light, auto-focus can hunt around a bit, hence it can be a bit soft, and in certain low-light situations it might not focus at all, but can just switch to manual. Certainly not a 'Macro' lens either, though gives nice close-ups ;) All up, very happy with this lens & would recommend for folks who want something fairly decent on a limited budget.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rock Solid I am 88 and not able to hold as steadily my camera. This lens has eliminated that problem especially since I cannot lug around an elderly heavy tripod etc. It has been a wonderful acquisition!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great All-rounder I've been using a tamron 18-270 for a while and had some problems with slow focus and blurry images. Traded for this and I'm pleased so far. It produces sharper images and the reach is great. Focus is a little slow compared to my canon ultrassonic, but is faster then the tamron. Liked the new design very much. I just think the OS is worse then tamrons. But I'm happy with my trade so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful lens with diversity of uses I'm a sophomore at the Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State. I'm using this lens for everything, all media that might accompany my stories. Obviously close-ups and portraits come out beautifully, but this is the most powerful lens you can use before you need a tripod. It is a little heavier than the kits lens, which can make framing difficult, but you get familiar very quickly. This lens is an all-around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lens I was utilizing a few different lens. Carrying a large back pak with the various lens inside. I spoke to a B&H sales person and he directed me to purchase the 18-200mm lens. Now I only keep that lens on the camera and it does whatever my various older lens have done. Easy to use, easy to travel and thanks to B&H I have an easier picture taking lens.
