    4TB G-DRIVE with Thunderbolt is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 75.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet and Fast I am using this with my iMac. This 4TB Thunderbolt drive was to replace a Firewire 2TB drive. I can't see any lag in the read-write speed. It's as if I just added another internal drive. The old drive will stay connected but will be used for a backup's backup. I do photography with images that are 50MB each so I need the capacity. I have almost 33,000 images right now and that grows by 3,000 each year. I needed a high capacity and fast drive and the G-Drive fills that need.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Product, but... I own several of these. All are humming along nicely. However, the last one I bought was DOA. The drive wouldn't spin up and, was in fact, singing the clicking song of death when first plugged in. Actually that is not such a bad thing. My experience with these drive is, if they boot up when you first get them (as 99% of them do) then they will last for a long, long, long time. Otherwise they will die as soon as you plug them in the first time, saving you the headache of losing your data a year or two down the road. With B&H Return Policy being so easy, purchasing these drives is a no brainer

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific Drive!!! I'm using this drive to backup my iMac 3TB hard drive with Thunderbolt. This is my 3rd G-Drive and they have all operated flawlessly but this is, by far, the fastest that I have owned. Perfect for backing up the photos that I take. My photo files are quite large and I take hundreds when I got out to shoot. Once the photo's are downloaded to my computer, I back them up right away. With this combination of computer and G-Drive, backups are completed in no time at all. This drive is awesome!!!! Note: With the drive being iMac ready out of the box, I was up and running in no time at all. Plug and play at it's finest!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Overpriced for needless Thunderbolt My boss's G Drive just failed, and it got me curious about why these things are so expensive. So I tested the read/write speed of this drive against other spinning USB3 external drives that are a fraction of the price, and to my surprise cheaper drives had up to 80% faster read, and 100% faster write speeds! Furthermore, when testing the G Drive Thunderbolt vs USB3 connection, there was NO DIFFERENCE in read/write speed. In conclusion, these drives are shamefully overpriced for the Thunderbolt connection, which offers no benefit unless you don't have USB 3 ports.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from drive failed this drive failed on me after just over 7 months of use. It was very lightly used only in the studio and had roughly 3TB data (video) mostly. It will not mount and G-Technology does not support any data recovery. But you can't open it to recover without voiding the warranty. Beware this enclosure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Zippy Drive I have 4 G-technology G drives, but only one with a thunderbolt connection. The USB 3.0 connection is just too slow to browse 50,000 photos so I invested in the thunderbolt version and it makes a huge difference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Production Hard Drive I have been using G-Tech drives for years. I work in commercial production and they are the go to drive for all commercials I work on. They are very dependable drives and highly recommended.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from My soul weeps I ordered this item in September. I entrusted my entire music catalog onto its aluminum encased disk. It freed my iMac from the heavy burden of so much entertainment. I was confident that it would serve me until the time came to afford another large drive to which to back it up onto. But no... Two days ago I decided to turn it off since I was not going to be using it for a few days. Today, the day I decide to awaken it to enjoy its contents, it would not power on. Nothing. No life. I tried a different power outlet, still no response. Now it looks like I have to pay one of G Technology's little buddies to try to recover any possible data, then send it back for a replacement. FOUR MONTHS? Really? I am honestly extremely upset at this.
