The fact that the SpectroLED SP-LR Light from Genaray resembles a 21.75" wand is especially appropriate given the lighting magic it can work on your images. Its built-in Li-Ion battery gives you approximately 2.5 hours of run time and more importantly gives you the freedom to move around your subject to instantly visualize its soft, wrap around quality of light. The SP-LR makes an ideal sidelight, rim light or hair light. Since it doesn't generate any heat, you can get as close as you like to your subject for special effects or you can even tape it to a wall or shelf for use as an up-light. And while, strictly speaking, it's not a specification, the SP-LR is simply fun to use.
The light offers two color temperature choices. As you rotate the rod one side has a 5,600K daylight LED array that produces a soft, natural color rendering, while the 3,200K tungsten array on the opposite site emits a warmer color tone similar to indoor fixtures, providing a late afternoon effect. You can also achieve subtle effects and moods by using the 100-10% dimming buttons that are built into the handle where you'll also find a fuel gauge-type battery level indicator. You can charge up the SP-LR anywhere in the world thanks to its multi-voltage AC adapter, and continue to use it while its plugged in if necessary.
While it's hard to beat the enjoyment of hand-holding the SP-LR, you can work hands-free by mounting it to a light stand via its 1/4"-20 thread at the base of the handle. A threaded spigot with 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 male threads is included for attachment to grip gear, as is an attractive, form-fitting rigid case.
