Genustech G-ECLIPSE77 overview

  • 1Description

The Genustech 77mm Eclipse ND Fader Filter is a solid variable neutral density filter providing an exposure reduction of approximately 2 to 8 stops. The 0.6 to 2.4 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping you to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

The filter is constructed from optical glass for high image quality and features an aluminum filter ring for rigidity and to prevent filter jamming. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is visually demarcated with dots that represent different density values. The front 82mm female threads of the filter are larger than the rear 77mm male threads to help minimize vignetting.

    Genustech G-ECLIPSE77 reviews

77mm Eclipse ND Fader Filter is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I use it all the time Although a bit on the pricey side, I am glad I purchased this ND for my new prime lens. This filter, like most other filters, has a point where color shift occurs and an X is seen through the screen. I've only seen the X at 20mm, and the x and color shift occur at the same place, when I go way over the recommended settings. I still get 2-8 stops without any type of distortion. One major downside but also upside is that the rotating part of the filter is larger than the 77mm thread that goes into the lens. This means it's easier to change the stops without getting my fingers in the shot, but the thread on the outside is larger than the thread on the inside, so I can't put a lens cap or the hood on while using this filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great nd filter, much better than other This is a great nd filter. I previously owned 4 Tiffen variable nd filters and got rid of them after trying this one out. It is a day and night difference. These genustech filters are of higher quality build, much smaller and thinner, and have a front filter thread to be able to attach caps and hoods. The Tiffen were terrible and the worst thing was that you cant attach caps or hoods or anything else to the Tiffens, and they also leaked grease.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from way better than expected i had a cheap @ variable nd and it did ok for when filming in bright areas, but in post you can see how bad it changed the colors and blacks looked downright awful. i decided to go for the Eclipse and whoaaaaaaaaaa!!! shooting on the sigma 18-35 at 1.8 or even my 50 art 1.4 is sooo much better and im getting stunning shots, either with my canon 60d or bmpcc

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best I've Ever Had I use this ND filter on my GH4 and the results are excellent. I've own two ND filters in the past, both of them cheap models from Polaroid. This filter is thinner, lighter, and has noticeably less effect on sharpness and hue. The construction is solid. When rotating the filter, the spinning motion feels nice and smooth yet never loose. I also like the font style and colors on the edge. Everything piece of this filter is well-constructed and makes me happy with the price tag - even if I am usually a cheapskate.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from If you shoot DSLR video, you need this. You need to keep your video shutter speed at a low enough speed to avoid jittery video and very small apertures. This variable ND works great with little color shift. Keep in mind that any surface that reacts to polarized light will show surprising results, like color splotches on tinted glass, etc. You may have a tough time changing the degree of density with your usual lens hood, so buy the dedicated one that fits.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love I love this ND filter so much. How I have gone on so long filmmaking without one is beyond me now. This is the first ND Filter I've bought so I don't have much product experience to make a worthy comparison, but it works well for keeping my shutter speed at the right number in relation to my frame rate and my aperture wide enough for depth of field while filming out in sunlight. It's very well constructed and seems to be high quality. I use this Sensei Step Up Rings with this filter so it fits on all of my lenses without having to buy a new filter for each size. I also use an 82mm lens cap on the front when I want to just keep it on my lens, but still have it covered. When it's not on my lens, I put it in the provided case so it's completely protected. This Eclipse ND Fader Filter with a Gh4, Metabones Speed Booster and Sigma 18-35mm is a really great winning combo for outside shots. There's no distortion, vignetting or color shifting from my experience. You also won't experience the x issue that is common with these fader filters unless you try to push it too far. You'll get the exposure reduction between 2 to 8 stops easily. Don't hesitate to buy if you're in need of a fader filter. Worth the price tag.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great filter for a fair price! Variable ND as noted that works great for the price range! There is a bit of a discoloration, however, it is not something that is extreme enough to warrant an extra $150 to buy a Sigh Ray in my opinion. I bought a separate lens cap and hood - 82mm inner threading in the front One thing I'd like to see in this product is the implementation of stoppers at the min and max so I don't have to constantly check to see if I am just circling around the filter over and over.
