Fujifilm MHG-XE overview

  • 1Description

The Fujifilm MHG-XE Metal Hand Grip for X-E1/X-E2 provides an optimized grip for easier handling and manipulation of the Fujifilm X-E1 and X-E2 Mirrorless Digital Cameras. Milled from aluminum alloy and matching the silhouette of the camera, this hand grip adds an additional 8mm of clearance from the base of the body to better support the use of large-diameter lenses when mounted to a tripod. At the base of the grip, a 38mm-wide protrusion features a dovetail design that can act as a quick release plate with Arca-Swiss-style tripod mounts.

The grip also facilitates access to the battery compartment and memory card slot, even when mounted to a tripod, for easier switching of batteries and cards during shooting. Additionally, the 1/4"-20 tripod mount has been positioned along the optical axis of the camera to benefit the creation of panning shots.

    Fujifilm MHG-XE reviews

MHG-XE Metal Hand Grip for X-E1/X-E2 is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 29.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Grip - Wider than Acrca Swiss Grip fits well and centers the camera thread, provided that you aren't using it for the 'Arca Swiss' style feature. ( which is one of the main reason's I like it )If you do have Arca Swiss ballheads and such - you'll find this plate runs on the 'wide' side : so if you're using a head with a QR cam lock you will have to widen the receiver a couple of MM over your OEM Arca Swiss width to mount it. If you have the simple turn and screw receivers - no problem. .. a little annoyance that it's not spec OEM Arca Swiss width : my machinist fixed it but you should know in advance that 'Arca style' does not mean spec oem Arca Swiss matching.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A versatile addition to an X-E2 Pros: Fujinon lenses are great, but they aren't the smallest or lightest lenses on the market, so when hung on a body as small as an X-E2, this added grip makes a big difference in comfort and ease of carrying. This grip works well with the average-size 18-55mm or heavier lens. The fact that the grip is removable is not bad, for once it is removed you can hang a 27mm lens on the camera and you have a light, pocket size combination great for snapshots or grab shots. Cons: When the grip is off the camera it is a clunky shape and a takes up storage space in your bag. You need an Allan wrench to attach/remove grip.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Maybe better than nothing The X-E2 is a bit small in the hands and I wanted something more substantial to hold onto. Unfortunately, this grip is also pretty small, stopping a bit shorter than it could have and thus allowing only two fingers (pinky and ring) to grab it, which is awkward. Due to the camera's small size, I didn't expect it to be large enough to get all fingers on it, but it should have allowed for a three finger hold while the index finger is on the shutter release. (it could be designed to not cover up the low-light focus assist light.)I suppose it is better than nothing. The construction is well done and it is designed such that it will not rotate under the camera as it is fitted around the base.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well-made, useful accessory for X-E1 I've had a few hours to play around with my new grip, and I'm very impressed so far. The fit and finish are terrific the metal matches my black X-E1 perfectly, and the grip doesn't flex or wobble. The grip permits convenient access to the battery and SD card, and the Arca-compatible plate (which fits nicely on my RRS clamp) is a welcome addition. It's expensive, but it makes a substantial difference in the camera's handling and versatility. By way of comparison, I've used a lot of Really Right Stuff plates and grips (including the plate for the X-E1), and this grip compares very favorably, particularly considering that it's much sleeker and doesn't ruin the Fuji aesthetic. My only quibble is that the hand grip itself (apparently unchanged from the previous version of this grip) doesn't fit perfectly in my large hands. It's not uncomfortable, exactly, but if you're expecting a grip to rival that of a full-frame DSLR, you'll be disappointed. Even so, it makes it much easier to hand-hold the camera, particularly if you carry your Fuji with a wrist strap, as I do. On a broader level, this grip is representative of Fuji's modus operandi. The first-generation products aren't perfect the previous-generation grip inexplicably lacked a battery door, for example but Fuji is incredible about listening to customer feedback and responding accordingly. It's a rare trait for camera manufacturers to have, and it's something to be appreciated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MHG-XE Metal Hand Grip for X-E1/X-E2 by I just purchased my Fuji X-E2 which is a smaller camera loaded with buttons to push. Having big hands and large fingers I found my self pushing a button somewhere almost every time I picked up the camera. Now having the MHG-XE hand grip I find the camera is a much better comfortable fit in my hand and accidental button pushing has for me been eliminated. Also, having the hand grip makes for a much more stable platform in taking pictures. B&H has the right price, the grip in stock, and can ship. For better pictures buy one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent accessory! This is my second metal hand grip. I bought one for my first X E2. When I bought an X T1 I sold the camera and grip. But as much as I like the X T1 I missed the X E2. So I bought another one. Then I missed the hand grip. It's beautifully machined. You can change the battery without removal. Removal is a snap anyway. It provides exactly the extra grip I need when not using the strap. The weight it adds is negligible. I leave it on all the time. It also protects the camera bottom plate.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good but maybe not great Solid construction, smooth finish, attaches easily & firmly. I really like the built-in flange for mounting on an arca style clamp. The one thing I'm not so fond of is that it doesn't feel quite right in my hand: in particular the lower inside edge (behind the opening for the battery door) rubs on the inside of my palm. It will take some longer term use to see if I just get used to that feeling, or if it becomes a real nuisance and causes me to use the grip less and less.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The grip makes a big difference This grip gives the XE2 a new life. The camera is now much easier to handle and feels more secure when in the hand. Now I can use the XE2 with 18-55mm with one hand. The materials match perfectly with the body of the camera. The grip is machined to precision with no play whatsoever. The sd card is a little more difficult to remove but it is still possible so no big deal.I can't imagine a better accessory for the XE2 than this grip.I purchased mine from the used dept in E+ condition and it looks new & included the hex key.
