Olympus LC-37C reviews

LC-37C Auto Open Lens Cap for M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ Lens (Silver) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The 14-42 f/3.5-5.6 EZ lens surprised me. Walking around Paris carrying my Olympus em10 with its 12-40 f/2.8 lens after several hours became a burden. That lens, though superb, was heavy. When I got home I started looking for a lighter lens. Since all of my zoom photos were taken during the daytime, and my night photos were taken with fast prime lenses, I did not need the constant f/2.8 aperture that my 12-40 zoom provided. The lightest zoom I could find was the 14-42 EZ. But when I researched the reviews of this lens, I found that many reviewers found it mediocre. I decided to see for myself and I ordered one from B&H. I tested it using the conventional brick wall.. I tested it photographing newspapers. I photographed dark leaves against a bright sky. I tested it taking street photographs and landscapes. To my surprise and delight I found the images to be practically indistinguishable from those my 12-40 lens produced. I immediately ordered the LC-37Cl ens cap.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can be modified to work with Pana 12-32 I bought this to used with my Panasonic 12-32.I normally use a hood but did not want to increase the size of a lens I bought because it was small. Since it was designed to be used with the Olympus 14-42 there is very noticeable vignetting in the extreme corners at 12mm. But the plastic is not brittle so you can cut away some of it to eliminate the vignetting. The cap works as advertised eliminating the need to keep track of the very small cap that comes with the lens. It is also thick enough to act sort of like a mini hood. Not deep enough to really keep the sun off the lens but deep enough to make it much harder to get a finger on the front element which is easy to do with a thin lens. It loses a star because it seems a little pricey for what it is.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works!! I wanted to have a way to get the camera working quickly without having to look like I was preparing to shoot. This is important for street photography. Well this cap does the trick when combined with the Olympus 14-42mm EZ lens. When the lens opens, the cap does also, and you are ready to capture that surprise photo! It really works, you just screw it onto the front of the lens, instead of a UV lens protector.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well; should come with the lens This works well -- it automatically opens when the lens extends on power-on, and closes when the lens retracts on power-off. The only downsides are: 1) It's fairly pricey, and it seems like it should have been included with the 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ lens. 2) It won't work with a filter -- maybe that's why it's not included?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Doesn't work with filters It does work fine providing you do not add any filters to the lens. If you do add filters the lens cap won't close.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as advertised Works exactly as advertised for my M.Zuiko 14-42mm EZ lens. The opening/closing mechanism is purely mechanical (i.e., not electronic): the curtain is normally open until the outer ring touches the lens body, which forces the curtain closed. It's very convenient: I wish more lenses had this type of lenscap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what it says. Does just what it says it will, adding P&S like auto opening and closing of the lens cover to the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ Lens. Perfect on the Oly E-PM2 for casual (large) pocket, carry everywhere use. Also perfect on the Panny 12-32mm F3.5-5.6 on GM1/GM5. Does NOT work on the panny 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 X Lens; the inner lens barrel is too large. There is a third party auto cap, the Freemod X-Cap, for it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must-have piece of equipment I just spent six hours doing photography in a historical village, taking shot after shot at regular intervals. Not to have to remove and replace a lens cap every time was a blessing. This auto lens cap should come as standard equipment with the lens.
