Canon T5i overview

  • 1Description

The EOS Rebel T5i DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens from Canon is an APS-C format digital SLR camera with an 18MP CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 5 image processor. It is combined with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens for an effective range of wide-angle to standard focal length.

With 14-bit Analog/Digital conversion, an ISO range from 100-12800 (expandable to 25600) and Multi Shot Noise Reduction, the Rebel T5i offers sharp details, accurate colors and low-noise imaging in both bright and low-light shooting situations. Its 9-point all cross-type autofocus system provides fast focusing when shooting with the viewfinder, and Hybrid CMOS AF increases autofocus speeds when shooting in Live View. The Rebel T5i can continuously shoot up to 5 fps.

A 3.0" Clear View II Vari-angle Touchscreen LCD with 1,040k-dot resolution provides composition and playback viewing. Its tilt and swivel capability makes it easy to compose your shots at odd angles, and a smudge-resistant coating keeps the monitor clear. Intuitive touchscreen operation includes Touch Autofocus.

Full HD 1080p at 30 fps and 24 fps is supported with Movie Servo for continuous autofocus during shooting. Manual exposure is provided in video mode and 60 fps is possible when shooting at 720p HD. A built-in stereo microphone with manual audio level adjustment is provided for quality audio recording with your videos.

Scene Intelligent Auto Mode automatically makes the optimal camera adjustments based on scene recognition and improved scene detection is particularly helpful when shooting night scenes. Advanced imaging features such as Handheld Night Scene and HDR Backlight Control make capturing difficult shots easy, and seven Creative Filters add expressive touches to your images and can even be viewed in real time during Live View shooting.

The EOS Rebel T5i is compatible with the full line of Canon EF and EF-S lenses. It is paired here with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, which offers wide-angle to standard focal length shooting specifically designed for APS-C cameras. It is equivalent to a 28.8-88mm focal length in the 35mm format, and its minimum focus distance is 9.8". This lens features Canon's Optical Image Stabilization system, providing 4-stops of compensation for blur caused by slow shutter speeds when shooting hand-held in low light or at longer focal lengths. An internal focusing system provides fast autofocus, and with a Stepping Motor (STM) and six-group zoom system it supports the Rebel T5i's Movie Servo AF feature for smooth and quiet continuous autofocus during video recording. Manual focus override is possible. A high precision aspherical element reduces chromatic aberration throughout the zoom range for sharp imaging, and Canon lens coatings provide accurate color balance and minimal ghosting and flare.

Advanced Image Features
Handheld Night Scene mode makes it easy to shoot difficult night scenes without blur. It even has correction data for a number of popular lenses stored in its memory. With the EOS Rebel T5i's chromatic aberration correction tool, distracting color fringing can be corrected at the time of shooting.

    Canon T5i reviews

EOS Rebel T5i DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 248.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Camera for Photographer or Videographer I purchased this camera for creating youtube videos. The continuous auto focus isnt as good as the 70D and the price reflects it. But I will say the autofocus does work, and it is completely silent with certain lenses. video picture is great and the touchscreen is way awesome when trying to set things up. knowing the hotkeys is much quicker though. The Camera hasn't failed me yet so I recommend this to anyone getting into film but would like continuous auto focus...if you dont care for continuous autofocus then the t3i would work just fine cause really the autofocus feature is the big price changer from t3i to t5i. great camera...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A ton of fun. I have had my Rebel T5i for about a month now and every day is a surprise as I discover more of it's many features. I call it a computer with an attached lens. It isn't my first digital camera but it certainly is my best camera. I bought an auto strobe and was delighted to see that the camera settings are transferred to the strobe for surprisingly easy flash photography. My rebel came with two lenses, an 18 to 55mm and a 75 to 300mm. However, as I became familiar with the camera I began to think that the single use, 18 to 135mm would have been a better choice. The auto focus is fantastic the menu choices are easy to use and the controls are very intuitive. robare15

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally bought the camera I've wanted for years. The camera is easy to use and takes unbelievable pictures! Some suggestions: view the introductory disc and read the very extensive manual that comes with the camera. I take a lot of pictures in Landscape mode and have found the different ambience modes easy to use and very helpful. I've experimented with all the different menus and find they are easy to understand. Already considering buying better lenses to really take advantage of all this camera can do! Novice or professional, this is a great camera to have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best pictures I have ever produced I thought I took good pictures until I started using the Ti5. Now people see my pictures and ask me who took them. Same photographer, better equipment. I bought this to take pictures of my kids sporting events and only used auto settings. Based on those results I started shooting hummingbirds in my yard. Wow! Incredible! I have stills with incredible detail, you can see their wing beats with zero blur. Now I shoot in manual modes half the time. The battery life is EXCELLENT! Just don't use the LCD. I only use the lcd to review and make adjustments to settings on the go. Use the Canon web tutorials to learn what settings will work best for your application. I'm a much better photog today than I was a year ago with this little powerhouse.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, capable camera for the money If you want a point-and-shoot camera, you can get that much cheaper. It works incredibly well as a point and shoot, but this is a very capable high-tech semi-pro camera. Beautiful, swiveling, high-res display, touch screen to rival a smart phone and full-featured. Lightweight body, lightweight kit lens is also a bargain if purchased as a package. It does not have an adjustable autofocus like the 70D, but is tack sharp accurate right out of the box. A little noisy in low light with zoom and no flash, but fine for 4 X 6 prints, or times when flash can be used. Beautiful HD video too. Would surely buy this camera again at the $ kit price. FUN!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than I thought that it was. Worked as described which was Awesome.Took my hobby and shifted from second to fourth gear without any problems. That was stupid to say.Nah it 's a great camera and I'm still in the learning process of all of its capabilities.I am kinda scared to do to much with it because it was not cheap. The more I use it, the more the nervousness disappears. So much value in a little piece of black plastic. If you want a good camera don't buy this one because it is a better than (great) camera. You can laugh now,Ha hA. It is a great camera,More and better than I had expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera!! This was my first DSLR (got the Video creator kit with the Rode microphone) with the purpose of using it for video. I used this for a short film in a 30 Day Film Challenge with the only lens I had at the time (18-55mm that came with it) and it worked great! We got 3rd place overall with 2nd and third places for cinematography and production design ... so I'd say it performed fabulous and got all the shots we needed. Since I've gotten a couple more lenses and the still images and video are looking great!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Another Winner for Canon This really is a great camera. I recently downsized a bit from a 7D to this T5i. I gave up the robust build but also gave up a lot of weight. This camera is a joy to carry all day. It is the most solid Rebel yet. The touchscreen works very well and becomes second nature in just a few days of use. Very handy! With good quality lenses this camera provides superior images to my 7D. This might be because the anti-alias filter isn't quite as strong. If you pair this camera with Canon's new EF 28mm f/2.8 IS lens you have a great street camera that's light to carry, unobtrusive, and relatively quick to use. With the new Canon 18-135 IS STM lens you get a very versatile system for just about any type of photography and the lens/camera combination is extremely sharp and contrasty. Really makes photography fun again.
