Steiner 5006 overview

  • 1Description

If you can benefit from enhancing identification of your game on various backgrounds, consider the 3-15x50 GS3 Riflescope with S1 Reticle from Steiner. This riflescope features Color Adjusted Transmission (CAT) lens coatings that produce images with color and contrast that are optimized for human vision, which makes it easier to see detail on a variety of backgrounds and to identify your game and targets. While the improved 5x zoom offers sharp images and allows you to make precise long-distance shots, the 56mm objective provides ultimate image brightness and visibility in low-light conditions like dusk and dawn. To help you compensate for a wind drift and bullet drop, there are a 70 MOA windage adjustments and elevation adjustments with a 1/4 MOA point impact correction.

Located in the second focal plane, the Steiner Plex S1 Reticle features ballistic lines to help you determine holdover distances and compensate for crosswinds. The hash marks below the center help you to compensate for a bullet drop at ranges of 200, 300, 400, 500, and 600 yards. The reticle also features a series of dots under the crosshair, winch help you to compensate for 10 mph cross winds.

To enable you to use and store this riflescope in a wide range of environmental conditions, the housing is made from anodized aluminum and offers protection against recoil, impact, water immersion, and fogging-up of the lenses. The windage and elevation knobs are resettable and capped, and the knurled diopter and zoom rings allow easy adjustments. The zoom ring also has a low profile lever for easy one-finger adjustments. Also included with the scope is a lens cloth.

    Steiner 5006 reviews

3-15x56 GS3 Riflescope (Steiner Plex S1 Reticle) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome glass, built like a tank. German quality. I looked through every high-end scope manufacturer's models that I could get my hands on at an NRA Annual Meeting a couple of years back. Surprisingly, I found that Steiner had equal or superior glass when comparing them to all of the premium brands - NightForce, Leupold, Leica, even Schmidt & Bender. Some of these scopes cost MUCH more. I own various scopes from Zeiss, Leupold Mark 4 LR/T, and I have a NightForce ATACR on my long-range rig, and this glass is really clear even in comparison. Since this scope is going on a hunting rifle and the turrets would not be used a lot after zero, I decided to go with this model. It really has a great quality image, and I like the simple reticle with wind hold-offs. The 56mm objective is huge and picks up a lot at low light. A lighted reticle would be great for night hunting, but that model (H4Xi 3-12x56) is about $400 more. My understanding is that Steiner makes the glass in Germany, and these are assembled by Burris in Colorado. This seems to be a good strategy from what I can see - I've been impressed with Burris scopes for years, and I think the glass is actually better. I spent a lot of time considering good quality scopes in this mid-price range like Trijicon, Leica ER 5, Leupold, Zeiss Conquest, etc. Overall I'm really happy with both the image quality and build quality of this scope. Order your Butler Creek scope caps (eyepiece size 20, objective size 48) when you order the scope. And you'll need some high rings or an AR style cantilever mount. Concerning downsides or things to consider, this is a 56mm objective scope with a 30mm main tube, so it's good sized. Not a problem, just don't expect to replace a tactical-sized optic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Steiner Optics I've been using a pair of Steiner binoculars for 25 years. Even in the most severe weather, they have not failed me. This is my first Steiner scope, I expect nothing less. I'm blessed to hunt in very remote areas in both the continental US as well as Alaska. I cannot afford to trust my success on unproven and untested equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Scope Mounted scope on a new Browning X-Bolt 2506. Clear and sharp image. Sighted rifle in easily. At 100yds I could clearly see each shot. Last 3 shots were in a 1-inch bullseye.
