The Radeon R9 290X Graphics Card with Ghost 2.0 Thermal Solution from XFX Force is a general-purpose graphics cards with drivers for Windows computers. In addition to driving displays, the drivers support a wide range of APIs, including DirectX 11.2, OpenCL 1.2, and OpenGL 4.3, exposing the parallel processing power of this card to video and photo editing applications, media players, video games, and a host of other software that supports GPU acceleration.
This version of the Radeon R9 290X features a 1000 MHz core with 4GB of 1.25 GHz DDR5 RAM over a 512-bit memory interface. Because DDR5 RAM moves data at four words per cycle, the effective clock speed works out to 5 GHz. 2816 stream processors in the GPU allow applications that support parallel processing to perform hundreds of simple calculations at once.
The card features an HDMI port with HDMI 1.4a support, a DisplayPort port with DP 1.2 support, and two dual-link DVI-D (digital only) ports. Up to four displays can be connected directly to the card. In addition, it is possible to connect a total of six displays through the DisplayPort when using an MST hub to separate out the individual streams.
Popular API Support
Supports DirectX 11.2, Direct3D 11, Shader Model 5.0, OpenGL 4.3, Microsoft C++, DXVA 1.0, AMD Stream Processing, AMD App Acceleration, AMD Mantle, and other APIs to allow compatible software to benefit from GPU acceleration, providing faster, more detailed graphics rendering for 3D video games as well as taking much of the workload off your computer's CPU when using GPU-aware applications
Drives 4K and 3D Displays
Supports displays up to 4K (4096 x 2160) resolution when connecting via HDMI or DisplayPort. Play games or watch movies in 3D when connecting to compatible active or passive 3D displays
Immersive Gaming: Use up to three monitors to create a "wrap-around" display that gives you a closer approximation of natural peripheral vision than a traditional, single monitor setup
Enhanced Productivity: Display multiple applications at once on different screens or spread windows from a single application across several displays to create a larger work area--particularly beneficial when using photo, video, or audio editing applications
AMD Eyefinity Technology: Support for multiple independent display outputs simultaneously, including up to six displays via DisplayPort when using a Multi-Stream Transport (MST) hub
Ghost 2 Cooling System
Combines solid capacitors, a ferrite core choke, and a double dissipation fansink with an IP-5X fan that together are designed to keep the card within a safe operational temperature range, even when running overclocked, while generating as little noise as possible
Intelligent Power Management
Using AMD PowerPlay and AMD ZeroCore Power technology, the card is designed to dynamically regulate power available to maximize performance while saving energy and avoid overheating in dual GPU configurations using CrossFire, the second card will automatically power off to save energy when not required
Hardware-Accelerated H.264 Encoding
AMD Video Codec Engine (VCE) allows you to transcode video to H.264 significantly faster than when using software-only solutions
Discrete Digital Multi-Point Audio (DDMA)
Allows audio to be sent to more than once device when using outputs that feature audio support--i.e., HDMI and DisplayPort
Image Processing Features
Applies anti-aliasing and other image enhancement filters designed to render smoother, more natural looking graphics. These include:
Provides twice the bandwidth of PCI Express 2.0; for example, an x8 PCI Express 3.0 slot has the same bandwidth as a x16 PCI 2.0 slot. In addition, the card remains backward-compatible with motherboards using earlier generations of PCI Express
Quad Data Rate (QDR) DDR5 RAM
Because DDR5 RAM can transfer up to four words per cycle, as opposed to one word per cycle with traditional RAM, the effective data rate is quadrupled, allowing this card to process data transactions as quickly as if it had a 5.0 GHz memory clock speed
Decodes: H.264, VC-1, MPEG-2 (SD and HD), MVC (Blu-ray 3D), MPEG-4 Part 2 (DivX/Xvid), Adobe Flash, WMV HD
Advanced post-processing and scaling
De-blocking, de-noising, automatic de-interlacing, and mosquito noise reduction
3:2 pull-down detection
Supports 7.1-channel surround sound and LPCM, AC-3, AAC, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS Master audio formats
Double precision floating point computations
