Works well in my tests

I have only tested this mic and have not had a chance to use in on an actual shoot. I have worked with wireless mics before and was not happy. I decided to try this one. I tested it using its built in mic as well as a lavaliere mic and the results were more than acceptable. Mind you, I am strictly an amateur at this but I do want good quality sound and images when I am done. I think this will work nicely for me.

Piece of Junk

The audio quality of this microphone is completely unusable. The hissing noise is so overwhelming that you cannot focus on the person speaking. Unfortunately, I did not keep the original packaging, so B&H will not allow me to return the unit. Now I’m stuck with a $160 paperweight. Lesson learned...never again.

Don't buy it!

This is worthless. It cuts out like no other. The audio tends to peak even after you have set the levels on the unit. I wish I had opened this before the 30 days was up because I would have sent it back. Huge waste of money.

Broken switch

Like several other users, the microphone arrived with the switch on the receiver broken. The only way to change recording modes is to pry off the switch and use a toothpick to move the selection tab inside the receiver. This is clearly a manufacture flaw, not a problem with B&H shipping. The package arrived in perfect condition, it's just the broken switch. I need the microphone immediately, so I won't be returning it and dealing with international shipping and customs. I'll just have to use the toothpick. I'm disappointed in Sony for selling a flawed product. To the devices credit, it does allow me to record audio from the wireless mic and the on-camera microphones simultaneously on separate tracks, which I can then edit individually in post. That is the main purpose of this mic for me as I record our Sunday worship services and this allows me to record singing from the center of the room and the speaker up front at the same time without using two different mics and recorders I would then have to sync. A broken switch doesn't really affect me in this cas. Outside of that scenario, I would not recommend this mic. Get a rode wireless Go, or even the Go II for much more versatile uses and better sound and wireless connectivity.

a little delay, no option of manual adjustments, very noisy and with some lav mics the noise increases even more. The advantage is its compact size, the receiver direct conect on my camera ( no cables and no battery). But at the end of the day what matters is the audio quality. Result: it is forgotten in my drawer.

For additional versatility, I wonder if the Bluetooth transmitter could go directly to a Smartphone without using the MI receiver?
Asked by: Randy
Don’t believe so because the hot shoe connection is what feeds the audio into the camera. Unaware of a way to connect the transmitter to a phone’s Bluetooth connection.

question

Any advice on compatibility with Sony AX-100 while also running Shotgun mic connected to AX-100 with 3.5mm input? Will it record from both mics and if so what settings should I use on the camera and the ECM-W1M receiver?
Asked by: Anonymous
Sony states that you cannot use both the ECM-W1M wireless microphone with a shotgun microphone connected to the camera at the same time. Sony suggests to connect the ECM-W1M wireless microphone to the camera and connect the shotgun microphone to the wireless microphone using the 1/8 (3.5) miniphone input terminal. They state to please check the operating instructions included with the ECM-W1M wireless microphone regarding how to connect an external microphone to the ECM-W1M. They state for further assistance, you may contact their Live-assist Chat at http://www.docs.sony.com/startchat.asp?modelnum=&region_id=1&chat=1 or you may contact the Alpha Phone Support for futher assistance at 1-888-222-7669 (while waiting for the Alpha voice prompts).

question

Does the Sony ECM W1M Wireless Mic work with Sony nex VG 10?
Asked by: Dave C.
No, the Sony ECM-W1M Wireless Microphone for Cameras with Multi-Interface Shoe is not compatible for use with the Sony NEX-VG10 Interchangeable Lens Handycam Camcorder, which does not have a Sony Multi-Interface hot shoe. The camera only has a cold shoe and would be incompatible for use with the wireless microphone listed above.
