The Series 5 Systematic Ball Head is a low-profile friction ball head that fits into the shoulder of a Systematic tripod. The D-profile head is Arca-type compatible, and allows the included QR plate to be snapped into the head from above, a faster alternative to sliding in the dovetail plate from the side.

The low-profile design allows a camera to be mounted very close to the top of your tripod, giving you optimal support. It can be mounted to any tripod with a 3/8"-16 stud, or it can be fitted into the upper casting of any Systematic tripod. The head rotates a full 360° around the central axis and tilts +/-28° laterally. A hydraulic locking system allows fast control and smooth locking speed.

This ball head has a Systematic safety catch, which - when used with select Systematic tripods - prevents the head, and any gear attached to it, from falling out of the tripod.

The included ring adapter is required when using this head with a Series 5 Systematic Tripod.

Series 5 Systematic Ball Head is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic with long lenses I purchased this head in an attempt to have a articulating head for my 600mm Nikon. Formerly and for years, I used a Whimberly head which is a fine unit. However the Systematic head has a lower profile in the correct tripod, it is somewhat lighter overall, and adjusts with the turn of one wheel. I have found the head to be well built and durable in the field. You should note that it is expensive but robust enough to hold my 600mm and a D5 body. The locking system for the plate that attaches your lens to the head is solid. I did buy a longer plate to find an optimum balance point for my camera lens combination. When traveling the Gitzo head is somewhat less bulky in my suitcase. If you have a need for this head and already own the proper tripod, my suggestion would be that if purchased, you would not be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Devine! I purchased this unit for a Systematic 5 tripod, primarily to support an RZ67-ProIID with AE Finder, heavy lens, and a Credo back. That's a heavy combo, and I couldn't be more pleased! The action is smooth, and the "0 lock" friction level can be set anywhere from totally free to just enough to keep your load in control at all times. The lack of a 90-degree cutout is no issue for either the RZ or my GX680 since both use a rotating back for portrait/landscape. The low working height above the tripod, combined with the massive locking force of the hydraulic system means even my heaviest gear combo doesn't come close to making this thing drift. The only ding I have against it is that the quick release mechanism seems overly complex. I wish there were an optional screw-type, Arca panning clamp--something like the RRS PC-PRO but with direct attachment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT BALL HEAD This ballhead works extremely with my systematic monopod. I never have had to tilt the head more than 28 degrees(anymore I would use a tripod). Very solid and excellent construction.
