Sony DSC-WX350 overview

  • 1Description

The black Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX350 Digital Camera is a compact zoom point-and-shoot that features an 18.2MP Exmor R CMOS sensor with a BIONZ X image processor for notable low-light performance, and a powerful 20x optical zoom lens with an additional 40x Clear Image Zoom. A 4.3-86mm f/3.5-6.5 lens, which has a 35mm equivalent focal length of 25-500mm, establishes the camera as having considerable wide-angle to telephoto image capturing abilities. To view your images and high-resolution full HD 1080/60p AVCHD videos, there is a 3" Clear Photo LCD 460k-dot monitor at the back.

Optical SteadyShot Image Stabilization helps compensate for camera shake to provide clearer images, especially in low light and when using the longer focal lengths. Useful for sports photography, the WX350 features 10 frames per second continuous shooting at the full 18.2MP resolution ensuring sharp, clear images that are less likely to be missed.

To capture a wide area all in one photo, Intelligent Sweep Panorama utilizes motion compensation while shooting panoramas in order to reduce the blur created by moving figures in the foreground. Enhanced Superior Auto enables the camera to select optimal settings based on scene recognition and provides crisp, beautiful results even in low-light situations. For easy uploading after a long day of shooting, a built-in Wi-Fi allows you to instantly share what you have created with your family and friends.

18.2MP Exmor R CMOS Sensor and BIONZ X Image Processor
Captures high definition images with sharp details and minimal noise, even in low light; offers fast performance and buffering speeds.
20x Optical Zoom Lens & 40x Clear Image Zoom
A Sony G lens with 20x optical zoom capability offers a considerable expanse of reach from wide-angle to super-telephoto. This zoom range can effectively be doubled, too, using the 40x Clear Image Zoom that employs an intelligent interpolation algorithm to increase zoom magnification with minimal image quality loss.
3" LCD Display with 460k-Dot Resolution
Still photos and videos can be clearly displayed on the 3" ClearPhoto LCD display with 460k-dot resolution where Histogram and Grid Display are available, as are 5 brightness levels allowing you to compose and view your images in any lighting situation.
Built-In Wi-Fi Connectivity & NFC
Wi-Fi lets you quickly upload photos and videos to social media sites through your smartphone or tablet, back them up on your network-connected computer, or view them on a wireless-enabled HDTV. When transferring images to Android smartphones or tablets, the camera also supports NFC (Near Field Communication) providing a simple, "one touch connection" requiring you to merely touch the devices to connect.
Full HD 1080 Video Capture
The DSC-WX350 can capture Full HD 1080 AVCHD videos at 60 and 30 frames per second, providing for fast motion video with less distortion when playing back on your HDTV.
Optical SteadyShot Image Stabilization
Optical SteadyShot image stabilization offers compensation to reduce the blurring effects of camera movement when shooting at slower shutter speeds. This is particularly effective when shooting in low light or at longer focal lengths. Sony's Active Mode image stabilization combines electronic and optical stabilization for less blurring while shooting videos when moving.
Fast 10fps Continuous Burst Shooting & Lock-On AF
Ideal for sports photography, the WX350 can shoot up to 10 frames per second in full 18.2MP resolution, and has Lock-On AF, which provides the ability to focus on multiple points with subject recognition to keep your subject in sharp focus even when in motion.
Intelligent Sweep Panorama 360˚
Intelligent Sweep Panorama mode takes Sony's Sweep Panorama function to the next level with the addition of motion compensation. Even when subjects are moving in the foreground of your landscape, these cameras can detect faces and moving subjects, intelligently stitching different widths together to minimize distortion. Simply press the shutter button and sweep the camera in the desired direction and the camera continuously shoots at a high speed, then seamlessly stitches the images together with automatic position adjustment to create one stunning panoramic image. Available in wide format and up to 360° full circle.
Face Detection, Tracking Focus & Smile Shutter
Face Detection allows you to take better portraits and groups shots. It recognizes up to 8 faces within your image and adjusts the camera for optimal exposure of faces. Tracking Focus makes it easier to capture clear shots of moving subjects by having the focus automatically adjust while you follow the action with the camera, and Smile Shutter Technology and Blink Detection help you get the best shot by recognizing when is the best moment to release the shutter.
Enhanced Superior Auto
The Intelligent Auto function allows the camera to make the optimal settings based on its recognition of the scene you are shooting and has Superior Auto to provide clear results when shooting scenes with dynamic motion.
Background Defocus & Picture Effects
An ideal effect for portraiture, Background Defocus allows you to blur the background on an image in order to put more emphasis on the clearly focused subject in the foreground. Additionally, Picture Effect adds creative expression to photos, making ordinary landscapes and portraits special by heightening the mood and emphasizing certain attributes.
Erase and Protect Features
Erasing and protecting images can be done in various modes: Single Image, Selection of Images, by Date, by Folder and by AVCHD format.

    Sony DSC-WX350 reviews

Cyber-shot DSC-WX350 Digital Camera (Black) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Second Time This is the second time I bought this model of camera. I researched the original one purchased extensively and it worked well for my needs. My criteria was that it fit in my pocket, long zoom range and was compact enough to take hiking and traveling while taking great pictures. The reason for the second purchase - I dropped the original about 6 feet to the concrete and it never recovered. So I guess durability could be an issue but thru a normal year and a half it was not a problem for me. The only other complaint I have is that it is hard to keep the lens clean since it is slightly recessed and small. Otherwise it takes great pictures and has decent function and usability.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job Last fall I purchased Sony's RX100, a super camera but with very limited zoom - at full optical zoom it is 1:1 with the naked eye, through the viewfinder. So, I got the WX350 to supplement the other for its considerable zoom capacity. It is a very basic camera, with relatively limited features, but does very well that for which I wanted it - a very long zoom, assisted optical out to about 500mm equivalent! So far I am very pleased - not super-sharp at long zooms but excellent for a hand-held! Highly recommend the hand grip that screws into the tripod location. Small note - do not buy the aftermarket battery - I got one with the RX100 and it can not hold a charge overnight! Stick to Sony's batteries.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice little camera I am a DSLR user and decided to get a small point and shoot camera for convenience (not a professional, just like the quality of the DSLRs). I've owned this camera for about two weeks now. First time I wasn't sure I was going to keep it, but after I took it on trip out I like it. I've only used the automatic settings so far. The camera itself is small and very light weight. Not sure about durability, but seems ok. Low light pictures are decent, except when fully zoomed. Photos taken outside fully zoomed were impressive. This little camera kept up nicely with action shots and produced clear pictures. Still pictures in bright sunlight are nice. Many very comparable to my DSLR. Some photos of people are a little washed out, but not too terrible. Timing in between photos exceeded my expectations. Video is also nice. Did not have any noise on the video from zooming in and out. Picked up voices decently. Can't speak too much on battery life yet, but I took over 200 pictures on the battery before fully charged.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Samsung wx350 I use an SLR, but like to have a good point and shoot for those immediate moments you need one. This is a nice small, compact little camera. I've actually found it easier to use than my Canon S95, which broke recently. My main reason for getting it, is I love panoramas but was tired of stitching and this is great, even though the files are smaller. I just wish it had RAW, then it would be perfect. I took a couple snow photos and they looked amazing, perfectly exposed in nice bright sunlight with blue skies.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this camera I had an older Sony camera that worked great for years. When it was time to replace the old camera to get better zoom and higher res, I looked at Canon, Nikon and Samsung. I actually bought the Canon first, but the user interface was disappointing. Some of the features that I had used often on my old Sony were either hard to find or not there at all. I returned it and bought this new Sony. I love it! Very intuitive interface, great pictures, awesome new features. No question I made the right choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Performer I have a a57 which takes great pics and wanted a small camera to carry to the dog park to get pics of grand dog and other places for mainly people shots. The cam had to be fast start, fast focus, better than average IQ in good light conditions and decent to good IQ in low light. At the sale price point vs the RX 100 m2 I decided to give the WX350 a try. I am aware that the RX 100 has more shooting options, better IQ and exceeds the WX350 in many areas and really not comparable to each other. I am very satisfied with all the above conditions were met or exceeded. Bonus was the 20x optical range with very good results. The WX350 is a small camera and so far I have carried in shorts or shirt pocket which is also a plus. The on camera charger take over 200 mins to fully charge out of the box. I did order a separate charger and two extra batteries. Subsequent charges did not take as long but still longer than I'm use to. Battery life by itself is another plus as many pics can be taken and the cam is on and ready to shoot so no missed opportunities. Aside the long battery charge I have read of other complaining about the bright flash over powering pictures and having no way to throttle or control the flash. I do agree the flash is bright and does overwhelm some low light shots. I have used the SCN mode with flash off with very good results. SCN modes that work are fireworks, night scene, hand held twilight, night portrait and anti motion blur. I have also used slow sync flash with better results than Auto flash. All in all The flash can overwhelm some indoor shots but I am satisfied with the low light capabilities and SCN mode features available to get good to very decent indoor shots. When I purchased the WX350 I thought I'd try it for up to 30 days and if I was not satisfied I would return it and go for the soon to be released RX 100 M3. 15 days into the time line Ive decided to keep the WX350 because it has been a surprise shooter and met or exceeded my conditions. BTW I dont shoot much video but I did take one stream and it was excellent (like jaw dropping WOW) from a little camera. So more video's will also be upcoming for me. Ive read where Sony does do a great job of video in most if not all their cameras. I did consider other small cameras but went with the Sony because of solid reviews on the 350 vs other small and comparable cams. I have not been disappointed and more than satisfied with the camera at the sales price point..

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light, easy and great camera. I bought this camera for my parents for their trip. Its very light and easy to use. Most of the auto select features works great by itself and for the camera geeks it also has pretty good manual controls available. Auto focus on complete zoom is little glithy on low light, but otherwise its a great camera overall. Connects Wireless to yur laptop or computer, its a great way to transfer your images.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice camera! So far I really like this camera. 20 zoom is a great plus. My last camera was only 7x and this makes a big difference. The real reason we bought this one is the small size. We wanted something that would fit in a pocket or in a purse. This fits the bill. I also like the optical image stabilization. There is no memory card included, but that's probably ok, since when they are included they are too small to really use. Camera came fast and seems perfect. I've only had it a couple of weeks. No view finder, but so far that seems ok.
