For more zoom, a 10x digital zoom function doubles the camera's reach and Sony's SteadyShot Image Stabilization with Active mode compensates for camera shake to help provide clearer images with minimal blur and low noise, even while you stroll around. For shooting at an even wider angle, try the 360˚ Sweep Panorama, which allows you to press the shutter button and sweep your camera around to gather in your entire landscape and take many high-resolution images and automatically combine them into one photograph.

Taking pictures has never been easier. Use the camera's Easy Mode for simplifying your menu and the camera's internal guide to answer all your questions without carrying around the instruction manual. To avoid missing those smiling faces in your shots, simply turn on the Smile Shutter Technology, which takes a picture whenever a smile is detected, based on your preferences. For convenient charging, USB charging is available with the camera allowing you to charge your device right from your computer.

For shooting at long distances, a 10x digital zoom option maintains a high-quality image while effectively doubling your focal length.

Use it to capture wide landscapes, or go full circle with up to a 360˚ panorama for more creative images.
Smile Shutter Technology
Automatically capture smiles the moment they happen. Simply press the Smile Shutter button to turn on the feature and leave the rest to the camera. You can indicate the degree of smile detection sensitivity and even choose adult or child smile priority. When Intelligent Auto is on, you can use the Smile Shutter mode with Intelligent Scene Recognition to capture smiles with settings optimized for that particular scene such as during difficult shooting conditions with twilight and backlighting.

I purchased the DSC-W800 with the goal of having a simple, easy point and shoot camera to complement my DSLR. With a ten year old DSLR (same megapixels), I also hoped the picture quality would be better, at least in good light. I was right! This won't be my go to camera, but for always having something to shoot, it works well. I'm posting pictures to Vero and Facebook with great results! It has it's limits, to be sure, but if you want an entry level camera to work on composition and light, this is perfect.

Great little camera

I was surprised by the tiny size of this camera. It's the size of a credit card and about 1/2 thick. I was afraid it would take poor pictures, but this is not the case. The pictures are sharp and clear. It may be small but it's mighty. I like the panoramic option and the self-timer. This size makes it easy to carry in my purse or pocket. It's easy to charge and seems to hold the charge for a decent amount of time. So far, I haven't found anything problematic. I'm taking it on a trip next month, so I'll be putting it to the test.

I needed a small camera I could use while rock climbing. It works well for that and better than a phone camera. I just wish it had an optical viewfinder. Very hard to see the display in bright sunlight.

Set button doesn't work. Neither does ok. Can't set anything - have to return it. The cardboard box it came in fell to pieces when I pulled off the tape - the whole thing so tacky. Not what I expect from B & H.

This camera is the right size as it fits into shirt pocket nicely. Well balanced in the hand and at 20mb produces good images of good color. Screen is clear and bright. I would recommend.

Does this camera support a clean (no menus or options displayed) HDMI out? I want to use it with an HDMI capture card.
Asked by: Matthew
Unfortunately I can't answer that question as I'm not sure about that topic. If you are in the market for a camera, I offer my opinion on this one: I'm contented but not happy with it. Pictures in the shade come out dark or too dark to be saved even with my computer. If I increase the exposure time, it's just for that shoot; I find it frustrating to have to keep on either having dark pictures, or needing to continually go into the menu to increase the exposure. There are other things I don't like, mainly blurry/ out of focus pictures too often, and the time needed to take the next picture. I'm sorry I couldn't answer your main question, but hopefully my thoughts will help if you're only deciding on a camera. Pesonally, I would NOT buy this camera again.

question

how do i see what i have taken with out loading up too computer?
Asked by: Anonymous
You would have to use the LCD screen on the back of the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W800 Digital Camera in Playback mode to review your images without connecting the camera to a computer. The other option would be to purchase a portable storage device with an LCD screen to which you may transfer the images for offloading storage and viewing, such as the Sanho HyperDrive ColorSpace UDMA 3 Wireless Storage Device (500GB), B&H # HYCSU500GB, or the Digital Foci Picture Porter Advanced: Portable Digital Photo Manager (500GB HDD).

question

I want to take self portraits, I already have a tripod. Is there a remote or shutter release cord that I can purchase? That would make it so much easier. If not, what do you recommend???
Asked by: Jayne H.
Unfortunately, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W800 Digital Camera does not accept wired or wireless remote controls. If you cannot reach the shutter button for self-portraiture needs, I would recommend using the built-in Self-Timer for self-portrait needs. It can be set to capture an image after a delay of either 2 seconds or 10 seconds (10 seconds would most likely be optimal for usage with self-portraits to give time to press the shutter button, then get in position before the shutter is released and the image is taken).
